By looking at the ongoing construction at the Split ferry port, it is clear to see why the new traffic regulation through this part of the city has been delayed.
Namely, the planned start of one-way traffic through Zvonimirova Street, the City Port, and Bačvice will not start next Monday, June 10th, but a week after, on the night of June 17th to June 18th, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on June 8, 2019.
The culprit is the bad weather in May, causing the postponement of the construction work that was supposed to be completed by the end of last month.
The biggest effort is to redefine the roundabouts in the port at the large bus stop, where two articulated Promet buses could stop at the same time. And since it's pretty clear by the looks of it today that the works cannot be completed by Monday, June 10, when the start of the new traffic regulation was planned, they decided to wait for the completion of the school year, but to complete the works before the Corpus Christi holiday. “Croatian roads" are responsible for this part of the work.
Taking into account the dynamics of the work carried out, the current state of the traffic load, the date of the end of the school year, and given the change of public transport lines, the forthcoming state holidays of Corpus Christi, Anti-Fascist Struggle Day and the Statehood Day, at the agreement of the City of Split, the “Port Authority" and “Croatian Roads", it was concluded that the most convenient day to introduce the new traffic regulation is June 17th, said Tamara Pajić, spokeswoman for Croatian Roads.
The Port Authority has made a minor reorganization in its area, and on the access roads, Zagrebačka Street and at the crossing of the Domovinskog rata and Vukovarska Street, the City of Split has improved signaling so that those going to the port have a clear direction.
You can see how the new one-way traffic regulation will look here.
Deputy mayor Nino Vela has repeatedly stressed that turning traffic one-way is a "recipe" that is challenged in a large number of European cities, and the new traffic solution strengthens the bus lines and metro being put into function as part of public transport.
“By reorganizing the bus lines, three times as many passengers will be able to come to the harbor with the bus, so instead of the current 15,000, 45,000 passengers will be transported, which strengthens public transport while reducing the need for passenger cars in the harbor,” Vela said.
To further establish better traffic flow in the city center, the City announced that the metro would begin driving on Tuesday, June 11, at 10 am. The new metro will depart every 20 minutes from the main Railway Station in Kopilica to the port and back. The City of Split has said that works are ongoing on this part of the project and guarantees everything will be ready by Tuesday when the first metro departs for the port.
The train journey will last four minutes, and a single travel ticket for the city metro and city bus will be introduced at a price of 11 kn, which can be used by the passenger within one hour on the Kopilica-Ferry Port route and vice versa, and in all "Promet" buses in the first zone.

Another day, another delay in the ‘Beautiful Croatia’, and this time in Split where we eagerly await the start of new traffic regulations in the city center.
Dalmatinski Portal reports that the new traffic regulations at the Split city port will not start this Saturday, June 1, as it was announced one month ago. Instead, the new traffic regulations are planned to begin in the “first half of June”, as poor weather conditions in May has significantly disturbed the work on the field, said the City of Split.
Croatian Roads, the City of Split and the Split Port Authority are leading the project.
The City of Split released the following statement:
“It is known that the leaders of the project are Croatian Roads, the City of Split and the Split Port Authority. City offices and subcontractors are doing their part of the job on a day-to-day basis. Due to really unexpected and unusual weather conditions, we understand the delay of Croatian Roads in realizing their part of the deal, but we hope that they will now increase the pace of work and engage more workers and machines and perform their duties in the next ten days.
The public will be notified about the exact terms of the change in traffic regulations in due course,” they said.
Recall, the new traffic regulations will be implemented to ease congestion in the center.
Namely, the biggest announcement is an entirely one-way Zvonimirova Street, completely one-way traffic through the City Harbor, with no turn to Zagrebačka Street from the direction of the Port.
Thus, Zvonimirova street, just like last year, will be one-way, and four lanes will continue toward the city harbor. However, exiting the port will take place in only one direction, via the Bačvice bridge. The lanes at the bus station will turn in the opposite direction, considering all buses will travel to Jadranska Street.
Traffic analyzes have shown substantial capacities of this new solution and no crowds and stops approaching the City Port are expected. There will still be a problem of departing from the City Port, at peak hours (13.30 to 14.00) every day. This will be regulated in the future by adapting the timetables of Jadrolinija.
Check out the new flow of traffic below.
Furthermore, the deputy mayor of Split, Nino Vela, announced that on June 9, the highly anticipated city rail project would begin. Namely, tour bus passengers will be unloaded and loaded at the new Kopilica station and can travel for 11 kuna via public city transport from the Municipal Rail Station in Kopilica to the Split Ferry Port. Kopilica will boast a parking lot for 48 tour buses, and the daily parking fee for buses will cost 120 kuna (the same parking fee as Dračevac).

The Croatia national team will gather for the first time since March in Split next month. Before the Vatreni’s return, coach Zlatko Dalić spoke with Dnevnik Nova TV.
April 30, 2019 - The City of Split announced that from the beginning of June, namely June 1, 2019, new traffic regulations would be in force through the City Port, developed by experts from Trivium in cooperation with the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy in Split, said Deputy Mayor Nino Vela at a press conference held on Tuesday. Vela also said that the City of Split, together with the Croatian Roads and the Port Authority, with the support of the Police Administration of Split-Dalmatia, Split-Dalmatia County and the city companies Promet, Čistoća and Split Parking, took part in solving the current, unsatisfactory traffic situation in Split. The group aimed for better vehicle flow, starting from the City Port which is a traffic epicenter of the city.
“The analyzes carried out have offered a new regulation that has the ambition to become a permanent solution,” Deputy Vela said.
Miroslav Jakovčević of Trivium spoke about the interventions that will commence immediately after the Sv. Duje holiday, to be completed by the end of May and which cost about half a million kuna. The biggest announcement is an entirely one-way Zvonimirova Street, completely one-way traffic through the City Harbor, with no turn to Zagrebačka Street from the direction of the Port.
Thus, Zvonimirova street, just like last year, will be one-way, and four lanes will continue toward the city harbor. There will still be a problem of departing from the City Port, at peak hours (13.30 to 14.00) every day. This will be regulated in the future by adapting the timetables of Jadrolinija.
Traffic experts have concluded that, in addition to an increased number of cars, the problem is pedestrians, and they will also benefit from the new regulations. This temporary solution could also become permanent.

The Society of Marjan revealed on Tuesday morning that the City of Split canceled the tender for an adrenaline park on Marjan, precisely in the Bene area, reports Dalmacija Danas on April 9, 2019.
Soon after their announcement, the City of Split announced:
"After yesterday's talks with the stakeholders of the Marjan Park Forest and representatives of the civil society under the leadership of the 'Our Marjan' initiative, in order to further harmonize all misunderstandings, the City of Split decided to temporarily annul the procurement procedure of the Adrenaline park for climbers planned in the area of Bene. The acquisition of the adrenaline park will take place after the reconciliation of the foreseen micro-location, which will also least intervene with the natural habitat of the Marjan Forest Park.
Please note that the City of Split remains committed to the fact that Marjan is a living room and the main recreational zone of all our citizens, as well as numerous climbers and children who are engaged in sports climbing, who are eagerly awaiting the first of such content in our city. According to the procurement plan of the project, the works of the construction of the adrenaline park will be carried out as soon as possible, following the pace of the rehabilitation of the Marjan forest from the bark beetle.
The preservation and revitalization of our Marjan needs to remain our only goal, and we can only come to it through the joint and unified action of all stakeholders,” the City of Split said on Tuesday morning.
Recall, as part of the project "Marjan 2020 - a hill of the past, an oasis of the future", last week, the City of Split initiated the public procurement procedure for the construction of setting up a demountable adrenaline park.
The location of the future adrenaline park would be located east of the bay of Bene, where it is easier set up more compatible content, such as paintball, picnic areas, and a bocce ball court. Marjan Forest Park does not currently feature an adrenaline park, although the program is fully compatible with the recreational character of the space, the City of Split said.
The goal was to make quality moves with minimal interventions in the natural heritage - putting the entire previously devastated infrastructure into the function of new growth, development, employment, as well as improving the overall sustainability and the biodiversity of the Marjan Forest Park.
The installation of the demountable adrenaline park was said to be in line with the project activities of the School of Multilingual Development and Sporting Facilities of Marjan.
The project would directly affect the increase in the number of visitors and tourists through targeted content, activities, products and infrastructure, and bring Marjan glory and recognizability in Croatia and the world as one of the main symbols of the City of Split, the City added. The estimated value of the works for the new adrenaline park is 554.800,00 kuna (without VAT).

On Wednesday at Dr. Franjo Tudjman Square in Split, preparation works began for setting up a terminal, i.e., the new public bicycle station, and by the end of April, the same terminals will be set up in seven other city locations, reports Dalmatinski Portal on March 27, 2019.
The result is the partnership of the City of Split with the EU project 'REMEDIO' (REgenerating mixed-use MED urban communities with congested traffic through Innovative low carbon mobility sOlutions) aimed at encouraging the use of low carbon transport systems through testing the operating methods of managing congested traffic and traffic overloaded urban areas.
As part of the project pilot project, in eight locations, Split will receive a with a mixed contingent of 20 electric and 30 classic bicycles, while the partner in the implementation is Split parking d.o.o. The bikes will be available on the Riva in front of Sv. Frane (2 bicycle stands), the parking lot in Split 3, the parking lot in Žnjan, the parking near Joker, the bus station at Sukoišanska, the parking at Stari Plac, the Spinut Student House and the Campus.
“The City of Split, within the project, has available grants for the procurement of public bicycle systems and the implementation of specific project activities amounting to a total of EUR 267,500.00 with a co-financing rate of 85%. The project is funded by the ERDF through the Interreg MED program. Through the recently agreed EU project 'SUTRA', which includes similar activities, it is envisaged to upgrade the system as well as to extend the existing contingent of ordinary and electric bicycles,” said theCity of Split.

The showroom project of Split United, i.e., the master plan of the urban revitalization study of Split’s East Coast and Kopilica, opens for all interested public today at 4 pm. The showroom is located on the first floor of the Administrative Building Dalma near the University Center for Vocational Studies (Kopilica 5) and will be open until April 19th on weekdays from 4 pm to 8 pm, reports Dalmacija Danas on March 21, 2019.
It presents visual representations of the master plan as well as the timeline of the development of the East Coast and Kopilica, so that all interested parties can be fully informed about the presented study and actively and informatively included in the public discussion. For the same reason, over the last three days, many expert workshops were held with different stakeholders, from city councilors and professionals to landowners at two subject locations with the residents themselves.
Recall, the master plan, among other things, defines new tourism and residential properties. On the East Coast, the construction of residential buildings, hotels, and garages on several levels are planned. The East Coast would be "a place to preserve and enhance the historical significance of UNESCO heritage and a new place of residence for the local population."
In Kopilica, a new cargo port (RoRO) is planned for automobile transportation to the islands, but also a new waterfront or promenade and a tunnel below Bačvice. As a measure to retain inhabitants in the city, they plan to build 8,984 apartments in Kopilica and 286 apartments on the East Coast. The aim is to bring 19,764 inhabitants to Kopilica and 629 to the East Coast.
The bridge across the Kaštela bay was considered a "long-term national project" that ensures access to the port in Kopilica from the state road. There would also be residential buildings, shops, rest areas, parks, and catering facilities along the coast.
Unlike the past development vision, where this area was viewed only as a transit hub, it will now become a “modern neighborhood that has housing, education, a business center, and public, entertainment and tourist facilities."
As part of the showroom, an exhibition of selected photos from the recently held photo contest "Kopilica and East Coast - the current state and perspective" was opened. Among the nearly 200 photographs received from 15 different authors, the best was awarded to Majda Rožić for the photo "Kopilica." Žaklina Antonijević won the second prize, while the third went to Janka Bauka. The exhibition, like the showroom, will remain open to the public until April 19, 2019.
The city of Split invites all citizens, experts, and stakeholders to visit the showroom, get detailed information about the project and actively engage in a public discussion, because only the engagement of all guarantees that the final solution of the master plan will best respond to the city's needs in the next 50 years.
More information about the public hearing procedure is available here.
