Fraud and Economic Crime Growing Threat in Croatia

ZAGREB, September 18, 2018 - The Global Economic and Fraud Survey 2018 carried out by PricewaterhousCoopers (PwC) and presented on Tuesday indicates that 53% of Croatian companies fell victim to some form of fraud or economic crime over the past two years, which is 26% more than in 2016. On the global level, 49% of organisations said they had been victims of fraud and economic crime.

Most Croatian Companies Want Permanent Summer Time Introduced

ZAGREB, September 13, 2018 - Nearly 90 percent of Croatian companies want an end to the practice of changing the clocks in spring and autumn, with 60 percent in favour of staying on summertime all year round, a survey conducted by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) shows.

Business Community Not Satisfied with GDP Growth

ZAGREB, August 29, 2018 - The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) and Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) find the Q2 GDP growth of 2.9% to be good news, however, the business community warns that that growth rate is insufficient to stop the country from lagging behind the average level of development in new European Union member states and employers also point to the lack workers as the main factor limiting further growth.

Croatia Has 158,000 Active Businesses

ZAGREB, August 26, 2018 - At the end of June 2018, there were 256,446 registered business entities in Croatia, of which 61.1% (158,060) were active and nearly one in three were in Zagreb, according to the national statistical office.

Authorities Satisfied with Gavrilović Arbitration Outcome

ZAGREB, July 29, 2018 - The State Prosecutor's Office (DORH) said that the Arbitration Tribunal of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington practically entirely rejected Georg Gavrilović's complaint and that Croatia succeeded 98% in this arbitration, noting that the company has been awarded just 1.49% of the amount claimed and about 30% of the costs of the procedure.
