Zagreb Company's E-Tricycle Can Clean Streets and be Tourist Rickshaw

As Sergej Novosel Vuckovic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 14th of August, 2020, the Zagreb company Viking deals with heating systems, primarily radiators, in the field of which it has gained numerous references, and its activities include plastic coating, locksmithing and digital printing, as well as 2 and 3D modelling. However, in addition to construction and production, director Robert Vlasic is making sure not to neglect the development and research aspect, most present through the Gy3o project.

This Zagreb company's partners are the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FSB) in Zagreb and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER). A few years ago, Gy3o received 2.1 million kuna from the EU Regional Development Fund (the company invested its own 1.1 million), a prototype was made, and this year, a further 2,405,805 kuna in non-refundable funds arrived.

Vlasic, satisfied with the funds provided, stated that this is only on paper because it is necessary to invest, ie co-finance the implementation to the full value of the project of 5,822,379.08 kuna, so that it can be successfully implemented. That is why, he noted, he is grateful for the media support that helps him to reach investors.

In the meantime, this Zagreb company's director isn't giving up and is bravely approaching the development of new projects continuing in the direction of electromobility. He also designed an electric tricycle. Unlike the Gy3o which would function as a personal vehicle for private use, Viking’s new R&D project is for urban, commercial purposes.

''There was a need for a cargo bike, ie, a tricycle that could overcome ascents around the city and in hilly areas. The electric motor tricycle is an ideal compromise when it comes to ecology,'' Vlasic explained when discussing how he initially came up with the idea. They have a prototype, test engines and batteries and the suspension with shock absorbers, steering and hydraulic brakes, the prototype can even be used to transport waste. He confirmed that they are working on the first major series of vehicles for Zagreb Holding, for the needs of Cistoca Zagreb. The purchase order is 30 vehicles.

“It’s perfect for transporting smaller loads around the city through crowds in a short amount of time. It can serve as a means of promotion or as a delivery vehicle. For example, as a rickshaw for tourism, a postal delivery vehicle, a vehicle for ice cream, popcorn and the like. Its speed is powered by a strong electric motor and the freedom of constant movement within 6 hours,'' added Vlasic. The special features of the Zagreb company's e-tricycle are that it is narrow, less than a metre in width, that it doesn't require any permits, and is not subject to a ban on entering the city centre as a delivery vehicle, nor is it banned in tourist centres during certain periods.

“Delivery with this vehicle can be done through all zones and at all times, because tricycles with an electric motor don't belong to the category of delivery vehicles that have bans placed on them. In addition, these vehicles can be adapted to the transport of europallets and cargo weighing up to 500 kilograms,'' explained Vlasic.

In light of the growing need for ecological and sustainable, "green" transport, as well as the need for safe hygienic standards, Vlasic pointed out that the e-tricycle-cleaner is "anticovid" and doesn't pollute the environment.

"There's room for the commercialisation of tricycles and cargo bicycles, especially with the new EU initiatives for ecological transport,'' concluded Robert Vlasic, the director of the Zagreb company Viking.

Sapiona's Products Receive Coronavirus Effectiveness Certificate

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made us all rethink how we do things. An array of new certificates and ratings have come to be, from ''COVID Safe'' establishments to others, and one very well known Croatian company, Sapiona from Osijek, has seen their products receive a certificate attesting to their effectiveness against the new coronavirus.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 12th of August, 2020, since the appearance of the new coronavirus, Saponia has confirmed itself as one of the first producers to begin with the production of disinfectants and provide institutions and citizens with the necessary means for their health protection. Over recent days, the products from the BIS HANDYSEPT and ARF DEZI-CLEAN line have received another certificate of quality - a certificate of effectiveness against coronavirus.

''This extremely important certificate is the result of the work of Saponia's development team and we have once again proved that products of the highest standards of quality and efficiency are being developed in Croatia as well,'' stated Sapiona according to a press release.

After testing in laboratories “J. S. Hamilton ”, the third largest European laboratory for testing food, animal feed, water, cosmetics, and the microbiological cleanliness of facilities and water sampling, Saponia disinfectants (BIS Handysept - for hand disinfection and Arf Dezi Clean speed and universal - for the disinfection and cleaning of water-repellent surfaces) and the whole group of BIS products (for the disinfection of the hands of healthcare professionals, food industry workers and all those who handle food for human consumption in some way…) received a virulence certificate against the new coronavirus.

''So far, our products have had proven antimicrobial efficacy at the level of 99.999 percent, which is also important in preventing the spread of the new coronavirus, but with these test results, we can rightfully and responsibly communicate that these products also have an antiviral activity, which is the most important thing at the moment for our customers and consumers,'' pointed out Dajana Mrcela, President of the Management Board of Saponia.

Coronavirus Pandemic Fails to Destabilise Business for Cromaris

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic brought many previously seemingly untouchable companies to their knees in Croatia and abroad, but for Croatia's fastest growing mariculture company, Cromaris, the negative effects of the pandemic on the economy only further confirmed the toughness this company has managed to acquire. Cromaris received recognition for its top quality.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 11th of August, 2020, the Italians, and Italy is the primary export market for Cromaris, have long rated their products as far better than their competitors. An additional confirmation of all this is the "Superior Taste Award" for various fish which draw their origins from this particular Croatian company.

''The award is given by a jury composed of about 200 international chefs who evaluate the items without knowing who produces them,'' said Goran Markulin, the director of Cromaris, for HRT.

Cromaris is currently the most heavily certified company in the entire Mediterranean manufacturing industry. The average growth rate for years has stood at about twenty percent. Things got a little sticky during the lockdown, however, exports didn't stop even then.

''In March and April, we fell by 15 percent when compared to last year, but we returned slightly in May. From June and July, we've on the path to re-growth,'' revealed Markulin.

''All Cromaris farms are certified with the most important and demanding eco-certificates in the AFC world and we're the only company in the seabass and gilthead seabream industry that has 100 percent of its farms certified with this standard,'' the company noted.

Aquaculture, for which significant funds have been allocated so far through the Maritime and Fisheries Fund, will soon have its own development strategy lasting until 2030.

Zagreb Company Offering Original Idea for Coronavirus Protection

Experts have been constantly warning people that one of the most important ways in which we can protect ourselves from contracting the new coronavirus is to maintain a safe distance from other people. One Zagreb company has an idea...

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 8th of August, 2020, this is where the small Distancer 2M device from the Zagreb company “2M Divison” comes into the question, which is registered for both production and services, and is primarily oriented towards sales and representation. This Zagreb company was supposed to begin operations in March, but due to the coronavirus crisis itself, everything was prolonged, according its director Mario Anic, who has many years of experience and success in the sales sector across various industries. His company currently has no other employees, but given that the Distancer 2M product will be on the market soon, employment is also planned.

''The Distancer D2M is a small electronic device that warns the wearer and their surroundings with light and sound if the social distance measure of two metres is disrespected. It is worn as a badge on the lapel or as a pendant around the neck. The main thing with the D2M is to keep your distance. It clearly says 2M and anyone who sees it on someone or takes it in their hands knows exactly what it refers to. The signals themselves are often not needed. In order to bring something so simple and necessary to the market, we had to gather a team together. That's why 2M Division was founded. We've gathered a team that is dedicated to bringing D2M into the hands and onto the chests of as many people as possible and we expect great progress over the next few months,'' he said in conversation with Slobodna Dalmacija.

''It all started with the SYNERGY project, in which vouchers were awarded through a public tender in six Central European countries (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, Italy and Croatia) to finance innovative ideas that solve social problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic. At the invitation of the SYNERGY project, the Matija Petar Katancic Elementary School from Valpovo also responded, asking for a solution to the problem of returning students to schools and ensuring social distance. Miroslav Spiranovićc an innovator from Valpovo, was the only one in all of Croatia to offer a solution.

We used the existing technology of ultrasonic and optical sensors and created a small, practical device which is accessible to everyone, and is especially intended for children and the elderly for whom the COVID-19 disease poses a real threat. The innovation itself was made with the help of the Science and Technology Park of the University of Rijeka "StepRi", the company "Tera Tehnopolis" d.o.o. and the Association of Technical Culture Valpovo-Belisce, and along with Spiranovic, Tomislav Kudeljnjak and Dragan Francuz also participated. After a few months, we came to two final versions that we plan to market in the fourth quarter of 2020. The D2M Lite is for personal use, and the D2M Pro is for a professional indoor environment,'' stated this Zagreb company's director, Mario Anic.

The price will be affordable for customers, and the Distancer 2M has a battery that lasts for about five days and is charged on a standard USB port.

Infinity Luxury: Croatian Company Makes First Eco Smart Shower

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Ivan Tominac writes on the 7th of August, 2020, the Croatian company Infinity luxury is the very first in the entire world to make an outdoor portable shower with an inverted L design made of stone, ceramic or HPL that has its own power supply and as such consumes less water.

Today, sustainability is the primary focus of the economy, entrepreneurship and society in general, and the main backbones of any sense of sustainability are technology and environmental protection. The connection between these two concepts is becoming the key to success today, and Infinity Luxury, a Croatian company that manufactures smart showers, knows that very well.

Their most important goal is to point out the global problem of drinking water consumption, and to be part of the driver of awareness of this problem, as such, they focused on developing a system that will save water. ”Through three years of business, with many ideas as well as failed attempts, we were able to come up with a solution that allows for water savings of between 50 percent and 75 percent. We achieved this by reducing the water pressure inside the shower and by activating a motion sensor,'' stated Stefano Ladavac, Infinity Luxury's director.

Young entrepreneur Stefano Ladavac started thinking about this idea, noticing that the showers on the beaches in Rovinj, Istria, are quite outdated and consume a lot of water when used. He confirmed his thesis at the beginning of 2017 by working at a hotel in Opatija where the situation was very much the same. It was these situations that prompted him to start thinking about an outdoor eco-friendly stone shower.

“I had no idea how to create an outdoor shower that needs electricity, but that doesn't have to depend on it. Then I saw the brilliant idea for a smart bench from Ivan Mrvos that uses solar energy for power. In this way, I came up with the idea that the product design should be the inverted letter L, in order to place solar panels for the production of electricity on top,'' explained Ladavac.

For the realisation of such an idea, it was necessary to establish a company, and as Ladavac notes today, the goals and thoughts about entrepreneurship that he had back then are very different from those he has at the moment. At times, they even considered giving up, but with support such as that from European Union funds, they continued despite the obstacles in their path. The desire for success wasn't an easy road to take, and they often were dogged by fear and made some bad decisions, but the company now employs five people and two external associates, and the goal is to have ten employees by the end of this year.

For success today, it isn't important to be the best, but different - this is the mantra that has accompanied Infinity Luxury over the past few years of the company's constant growth and improvement. Their showers are special for their sensor-activated water activation system, which not only reduces water consumption, but also increases the hygienic conditions of the shower by reducing the possibility of bacterial transmission, it also independently produces energy via its own solar panels. Additionally, they can boast of being the first in the world to make an outdoor portable shower with a special inverted L design from stone, ceramic or HPL.

Before launching their product on the market, Infinity Luxury tried to convince potential customers of its quality and functionality. For this reason, in the first years of operation, they has their showers tested out in public locations and on a test specimen by a pool.

“After it turned out that the product did in fact meet all of the conditions, we launched it on the Croatian market. The first customer of our smart shower was the nCroatian ational team member Dejan Lovren, for whom we installed a personalised shower by the pool of his hotel, hotel Joel in Novalja. After that, we started to record better results here on the domestic market and we decided to present our innovation on the foreign market.

The first partners came from England and Italy, and now we're expanding our business to America, Asia and Dubai. Cooperation with a manufacturer of ceramic tiles called Marazzi has opened the doors of the world market to us, so we've set a goal to be present across twenty markets by the end of 2020,'' added Infinity Luxury's director.

The price of the product is dictated by the choice of materials and functions, and the starting price is 2000 euros.

The installation of the product, as they say from the company, is quite simple, and before the delivery, the customer receives a draft of the foundation that needs to be prepared for the shower. Although the price, especially here on the domestic market, can be a problem, Infinity Luxury's sales and marketing department makes every effort to justify the price. ”Our partners receive training and receive all the necessary materials to be able to handle our product properly. The installation of ceramic and HPL showers is less demanding than those made of stone, solely because of the weightm'' added Ladavac.

They are currently focusing on the development of the new Adaquo brand, which will focus on sustainability and water saving, and together with Marazzi, they're developing a luxury brand of outdoor showers.

”The plan is to continuously develop new products that will contribute to environmental protection. Its our R&D team that is completing the prototype of the shower that we will present at Idea Knockout, and it's an outdoor shower that will have an advertising screen, and it will be controlled through applications,'' concluded Infinity Luxury's director.

Ante Gotovina's Company Sees Growth, Plans New Investments

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Suzana Varosanec writes on the 7th of August, 2020, the Zadar-based company Pelagos net farma, co-owned by Croatian General Ante Gotovina, as a major tuna exporter, is also coming into focus due to its investment-related plans.

Ante Gotovina's company claims that it hasn't really suffered as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the devastating effect it has had on the global economy. Given the company's annual report, it seems that despite this new situation in which we all find ourselves and in which many companies are struggling and even going bust, they are in fact facing a new wave of investments, which, in addition to the well-established tuna business in the Balabra farm near Murter, intends to expand into the area of blue fish.

According to the annual report of the Management Board for 2019, signed by President Nenad Horvat and member of the Management Board Leo Mandic, Pelagos net farma will continue to modernise its business throughout the remainder of the year 2020, with the aim of increasing efficiency and improving the achieved results, regardless of the difficult economic situation that has taken hold.

However, in addition to new investments in the continuation of the modernisation of business processes, additional investments are planned regarding the purchase of new ships for Ante Gotovina's company.

While one vessel will be used for mariculture work, the other will be involved in catching small blue fish. The amount of investment in question isn't specified in the report, so it remains to be seen in practice the pace of investment as well as the relationship with the plant that the company already has for processing anchovies with a maximum capacity of 1000 tonnes.

Former General Ante Gotovina's company is doing well and boasts a respectable number of employees - there were 106 at the end of 2019, and at the same time, the company is reaching its maximum profit levels, thus achieving close to 8 million kuna in net profit, which marks an encouraging 10 percent growth when compared to the previous year. Back in 2019, the company realised impressive total revenues amounting to 74 million kuna, ie 35 percent more than was realised in 2018.

Number of New Businesses in Knin Rises Despite Employment Issues

As Suzana Varosanec/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 5th of August, 2020, according to the amount of total revenue in 2019, the most successful small privately owned enterprise registered in Knin is Transport Beton Lubina, with 43.1 million kuna in revenue.

Enterprises based in the Croatian city of Knin, located in the Dalmatian hinterland, who have been operating within the corporate income tax system for the last ten years without exception have shown a positive consolidated financial result, according to Fina's recent analysis which was prepared on the occasion of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian Veterans Day.

However, the net profit in the amount of 12.1 million kuna, which was reported in Knin last year, which also the highest in the observed period 2010-2019, seems to be encouraging. It is as much as about 55 percent higher than in 2010, and about 34 percent higher than it was back in 2018.

The total revenue of this group of Knin-based businesses were the highest back in 2011 when they amounted to 429.2 million kuna, and the lowest was in 2018 (173.5 million kuna), while last year they were at the level of revenues earned back in 2010, which is equal to revenues of around 215 million kuna in total.

As previously stated, according to the amount of total revenue earned in 2019, the most successful small privately owned enterprise with its headquarters in Knin is Transport Beton Lubina with an impressive 43.1 million kuna. The production of concrete products for construction is the predominant activity of this company, which is owned and managed by Srećko Lubina. The company employs nineteen people and their average net salary in 2019 was around 5300 kuna per month, which is well above the Knin average.

The number of enterprises based in Knin increased from 75 in 2010 to 88 in 2019, an increase of 17.3 percent, but the number of employees decreased from 615 (2010) down to 510 (2019), which marks a decrease of a similar 17.1 percent. As such, it can be assumed that one of the reasons is the stated negative trends in terms of the amount of the net salaries of employees in Knin.

Nine Croatian Companies on Deloitte's List of Fastest Growing

The overall winner is the British company Revolut with a growth rate of 39,754 percent, but nine Croatian companies have managed to find their places on this prestigious list of the 500 fastest growing companies.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 30th of July, 2020, the UK-based Revolut is at the top of Deloitte's ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in the EMEA region, which includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 ™ EMEA was created by Deloitte’s global Technology, Media and Telecommunications Division, and has been running for nineteen years.

Taken as a whole, this year’s list of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in the EMEA region included winners from 22 countries, with an average revenue growth rate of 1258 percent, up from 969 percent recorded in 2018. The revenue growth rate of the companies included in the scale ranged from 157 to 39,754 percent.

"This year, there are nine Croatian companies ranked on the list of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in the EMEA, which is four more than last year," said Zlatko Bazianec, head of the Croatian office and a partner in Deloitte's business consulting department.

"I'm pleased to note that we've remained the leader when it comes to the number of companies placed in our regional environment. We'd like to congratulate the Croatian companies and we want to encourage and invite other technology companies to apply for our competition, in order to continue to maintain the position and reputation we've gained over all these years,'' he added.

Revolut, from the United Kingdom, took first place in the ranking of the 500 fastest growing companies in the EMEA region in 2019 with a growth of 39,754 percent. Revolut is a fintech company that has created an application for business and trading cryptocurrencies.

The top five are rounded out by OakNorth, which is also from the UK, with a growth of 30,706 percent, the German Cloud & Heat Technologies GmbH (21,474%), DivideBuy (19,572%), also from the United Kingdom, and FINEWAY from Germany with a growth of 16,594 percent.

Central Europe and Croatia

This year, 80 companies from Central Europe were placed on the list of the 500 fastest growing, which is an increase compared to 51 last year. Most of them are from the Czech Republic, with 24 companies, followed by Poland with 21 companies, then Croatia with 9, Lithuania with 7, Slovakia with 7 6, Romania with 4, Bulgaria and Hungary with 3, and Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Estonia with 1 company each.

Bazzar.hr, with 39th place and growth of 2,821 percent, achieved the best placement, and it is interesting how Infinum has achieved placement on the EMEA 500 list as many as six times since 2013.

''When we launched the Bazzar platform, we had a clear vision and a goal that is increasingly being achieved every day of us doing business. The opportunities offered by e-commerce in this part of the region are still in the development stage, so being listed on Deloitte's list of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in the EMEA region only confirmed that we're well on our way to realising the potential of e-commerce. Growth of over 2000% is great, but for us it's just the beginning and marks a spring in our step, so we'd like to invite everyone to apply, because such recognitions in business are an immeasurable springboard,'' pointed out Tana Zimmermann, CEO of Bazzar.hr.

Infobip: Croatian Company Raises 200 Million US Dollars for Investment

The highly successful Croatian IT company Infobip just keeps going from strength to strength, and the latest spring in its step will certainly push it to even higher plains and help further expansion across the Atlantic in the United States.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 30th of July, 2020, Infobip has raised over 200 million US dollars from the One Equity Partners investment fund. This is the first round of financing, according to Reuters, adding that the value of this Croatian company now stands at over a billion dollars, reports N1.

This company thus became the first unicorn in the Republic of Croatia, and this is a term used in the venture capital industry when a privately owned startup achieves a value of over a billion dollars.

The investment will help Infobip further expand in the American market through potential acquisitions and the ability to compete with rivals such as the San Francisco-based Twilio, Reuters sources said.

Infobip is a global IT and telecommunications company, founded back in 2006 in Croatia, that provides the technology and services needed for multi-channel marketing by enabling companies to communicate with customers via text messages or applications such as the wildly popular WhatsApp.

Giants like Uber, Costco and Unilever are just some of the clients of this incredible Croatian IT company, which communicate with over seven billion mobile devices in more than 190 countries around the world, according to Reuters.

Croatia's Infobip had a 38 percent increase in revenue in 2019, generating revenue of 602 million euros. Infobip will now focus on expanding the business, says one Reuters source.

The research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts the growth of communication platform services (CPaaS) from 3.3 billion US dollars in 2018 to 17.2 billion US dollars by the year 2023.

Zagreb Company Creates Innovative Platform for Business Digitisation

One Zagreb company, InfoDom, contracted the provision of grants for the project entitled: The development of a new and innovative product DEP (Digital Enterprise Platform) for the digital transformation of enterprises, which is financed from the European Structural and Investment Funds in the financial period 2014-2020.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 24th of July, 2020, the total value of the project stands at a huge 9,141,226.62 kuna, of which the grant is 5,466,840.40 kuna. The project started on September the 1st, 2017 and ends on August the 31st, 2020.

Due to the rapid progress of digital technologies and the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, we're witnessing the general trend of the digital transformation of businesses. After the advent of mechanical machines, electricity and information technology, there is talk of a fourth industrial revolution that will result in the networking of digital devices. Among other things, the goal is to create smart factories through Industry 4.0 in which communication between people, machines, products and business systems will be established through digitalisation.

When it comes to Croatia, we can freely say that Croatian companies are largely lagging behind in terms of efficiency and effectiveness compared to companies operating on the global market, and this gap will soon increase if there is no investment in digitalisation. The consequence of the absence of further investments by Croatian companies would be drastic in terms of lagging behind, loss of market and company income, and consequently stagnation of the economy.

The DEP platform, built by the aforementioned Zagreb company, is primarily intended for businesses in the energy sector, which is traditionally lagging when it comes to digital transformation, and therefore the decision was made to develop a platform that will accelerate the transformation of business towards greater customer sensitivity, the better integration of business processes and achieving a more agile business model.

The solution consists of a system that will enable an interactive connection with end users and customers of energy services, through which they will have a constant flow of data on the habits and needs of their customers and will be able to incorporate them into their products and services through special modules. In this way, they will be able to adapt their services and offer them to target groups and thus achieve the best business results.

The Zagreb company's platform also includes an IMS (Innovation Management System) system that will enable businesses to quickly and continuously adapt their business model to market changes through integrated business process optimisation systems and a module for continuous innovation: products and services, business processes and entire business models.

At the heart of the platform lie modules to increase customer interaction, C2C and CESS, that provide support for managing the relationship with influencers, from identification; searching and finding influencers; establishing contact, and sending briefings and contracting relationships; through to collaboration through structured tasks related to creating, approving posts and following on social networks; all the way until the final sale.

The Zagreb company's CESS component, thanks to its advanced capabilities for monitoring the habits and needs of consumers, enables the use of such information to optimise energy consumption and the consequent reduction of CO2 emissions. On the other hand, CESS, in combination with advanced CRM components, enables end users to increase their quality of life ("Smart Living").

Digitisation in everyday life has changed not only human behaviour but also expectations. Instead of buying standardised products, customers want individual solutions to a specific problem. One of the most important goals of digital transformation is to improve the user experience, however, this isn't possible if customers can't perform their transactions in a way and at a time that suits them best. In addition to the change in the way of shopping, today's customers make significantly different decisions about buying and consuming services than they did before.
