May 7, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Iberia flights from Madrid to Zagreb, Split, and Zadar have been announced for the summer.
Croatian Aviation reports that in the summer of 2020, the Spanish national airline operated to only one destination in Croatia instead of the usual four - Dubrovnik Airport. This summer season, the company intends to operate at all four airports in Croatia, the same as in the summer of 2019.
Namely, Iberia will run regular lines from Madrid to Zagreb, Split, and Zadar. The line to Dubrovnik is already in traffic.
Line to Zagreb
The regular Madrid - Zagreb - Madrid flight has been announced since the beginning of the summer flight schedule (end of March), but flights are continuously canceled due to the epidemiological situation. Iberia currently plans to establish traffic between the two capitals from Friday, June 4.
As of that date, the company currently offers three flights a week between Zagreb Airport and Madrid, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with A320 aircraft.
The company intends to increase the number of rotations to Zagreb in July by introducing the fourth flight of the week, every Tuesday. The schedule for July and especially August is still subject to change. The company will certainly analyze the state of booking and the demand on individual flights as we approach the peak of the summer season.
This is a significantly smaller number of flights of this carrier to Zagreb compared to the summer of 2019 when Iberia operated on this route twice a day. Still, given the overall situation, it is certainly positive news that they plan to return this summer to Zagreb airport.
Line to Split Airport
From June 1, Iberia plans to renew the Madrid - Split - Madrid line. Three flights a week have been announced on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from the mentioned date.
In the second week of June, a flight is added on Wednesdays, and as of June 21, 6 flights a week have been announced, every day except Thursday. The flight schedule for July differs from the schedule for June, but the company will likely make more operational changes on this route by July.
Line to Zadar Airport
Iberia plans to re-establish the Madrid - Zadar - Madrid route from June 29. This route should be in operation until the end of the summer season twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, operated by A320 aircraft.
Line to Dubrovnik Airport
Flights between Madrid and Dubrovnik have been operating regularly since the beginning of the summer flight schedule. The company has recently increased the number of operations on this route, so flights are available on Fridays and Sundays throughout June.
From the beginning to the middle of June, four flights a week have been announced (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays), and from June 18, the line will operate daily. In July, Iberia plans an even larger number of operations to Dubrovnik, which will primarily depend on well-known factors.
Apart from Iberia, no other airline operates on a direct route between Croatian airports and Madrid. Along with travelers whose final destination is Madrid, Iberia has for many years been one of the first choices of many travelers who continue their journey to South America (destinations such as Bogota, Lima, Santiago, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, etc.).

May 6, 2021 - The 30th anniversary of Croatia Airlines first passenger flight was celebrated at Split Airport on Wednesday.
Croatian Aviation reports that Wednesday marked the 30th anniversary of Croatia Airlines first passenger flight. The first commercial flight under the designation of the Croatian national airline was performed on May 5, 1991, on the route Zagreb - Split and established regular air traffic within Croatia and the dream of a Croatian airline.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the first flight, all passengers on yesterday's afternoon Croatia Airlines OU652 Zagreb - Split flight were awarded a free domestic return ticket of their choice.
After the Dash 8-Q400 aircraft (registration number 9A-CQB) landed at Split Airport, a ceremony was held at which Slaven Žabo, Director of Commercial Affairs of Croatia Airlines, thanked all passengers for the trust over the past thirty years and pointed out how service quality and flight safety will continue to be priorities in the company's business.
At the place where the first passengers of the company arrived three decades ago, the importance of the Croatian national carrier in terms of traffic and economy was emphasized:
"Croatia Airlines has been providing continuous domestic connections of Croatian cities and regions with regular domestic flights for 30 years, and at the same time, we provide passengers with a year-round connection to the world through a network of international flights. Even in these extraordinary circumstances, the company never stopped flying, which further confirmed that it represents a strategic part of the Croatian transport infrastructure and that it strongly contributes to the quality of the Croatian tourist product," said Slaven Žabo.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the first commercial flight, Croatia Airlines is conducting a special campaign from May 6 to Wednesday, May 12, in which passengers will be offered a 30 percent discount for flights to all domestic and international destinations of the company. The 30 percent discount can be realized when buying tickets and applies to trips in June, while the return can be realized by the end of this year. The condition for obtaining a 30 percent discount is entering a special promo code during the booking and purchase of airline tickets, which will be available today. The discount applies to the fare, while airport taxes and other fees remain the same.
The company said in a statement: "It is important to emphasize that Croatia Airlines plans to further expand its network of flights from Zagreb and Adriatic destinations to European capitals during the summer months, following which passengers would be offered trips to 18 European and 7 Croatian destinations.
From Zagreb, regular international flights are planned to 14 European destinations - Amsterdam, Athens, Vienna, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, London, Munich, Paris, Rome (via Split), Sarajevo, Skopje, and Zurich.
Split Airport should be connected to a total of 12 foreign destinations during the summer season. A novelty is a seasonal flight between Split - Prague, on Saturdays, from the end of June to the middle of September. Return airline tickets on this route are available at a promotional price of 139 euros. In addition to Prague, Croatia Airlines aircraft should connect Split with Vienna, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, London, Lyon, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Zurich.
Also, direct flights from Dubrovnik to Athens, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Zurich and from Rijeka to Munich are planned.
To ensure connectivity and strongly support the tourism product of the Republic of Croatia, Croatia Airlines plans to offer more than 80,000 seats per month on flights from European destinations to Croatia during the summer season. In cooperation with many tour operators, more than 200 charter (extraordinary) flights are planned. Austria, Italy, Ireland, Israel, and Scandinavia.
Air connections within Croatia will continue to be provided by flights in domestic scheduled traffic between the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Osijek, Zadar, Brač, and Pula, at all times and on all flights taking maximum care of passenger safety and adhering to current epidemiological measures, concludes the press release of the Croatian national airline.

May 5, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia announced flights from Split Airport to 24 destinations over the next 20 days!
Croatian Aviation reports that Split Airport has published a list of flights confirmed by airlines until May 24 this year. According to the announcements, in the next 20 days, Split will have regular flights to as many as 25 destinations.
Split Airport records an increasing number of re-established routes from weekend to weekend, and until May 24 this year, Split will have regular lines to as many as 25 destinations - 5 domestic and 20 international, which, given the epidemiological situation, passenger restrictions, and low demand, is really great news.
Croatia Airlines will have the largest number of destinations from Split, of which two are domestic and four international. Namely, until that date, Croatia Airlines will operate from Split to Zagreb, Osijek, Frankfurt, Rome, Munich, and Zurich. All routes are already in operation, except the Split - Zurich - Split line, where Croatia Airlines will make its first flight this season on Saturday, May 22.
The second airline in terms of the number of routes in the mentioned period is German Eurowings. The company already operates on two lines (Stuttgart and Düsseldorf), and from May 22, there will be three more in traffic - to Hamburg, Cologne, and Dortmund.
The third carrier is easyJet, which currently has three routes to Split (Basel, Berlin, and Geneva), and from May 22, this well-known low-cost airline will connect Split with London (Luton Airport).
In terms of the number of routes, the Croatian private airline, Trade Air, is in fourth place, connecting Split with Rijeka, Dubrovnik, and Pula, via Pula and Osijek throughout the year. The three mentioned lines will be in traffic twice a week, as is already usual.
In addition to these airlines, it should be noted that the Dutch KLM will continue to connect Split with Amsterdam, LOT with Warsaw, Austrian Airlines with Vienna, Lufthansa with Munich and Frankfurt, and Smartwings with Prague. All the mentioned lines are already in traffic. Vueling will also have another rotation on the route from Barcelona (May 8), and all other flights until the end of June have been canceled. Likely, Vueling will no longer offer direct flights on this route to Split in the summer of 2021.
The two companies will operate their first flights this season to Split. The Latvian national airline, Air Baltic, will introduce a route between Riga and Split on Monday, May 10. Flights are announced twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.
Four days later, on May 14, the Dutch Transavia will resume traffic on the seasonal line between Paris (Orly Airport) and Split, which will be open twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays, until the last week of May.
This month (as in the entire summer season), Split Airport will be the busiest airport on the coast. From May 4 to 24, over 200 aircraft operations on scheduled flights were announced. In the summer season of 2019, it was the kind of traffic that Split had in one weekend in the peak season, but the good news is that the number of destinations connected to Split is growing already this month. We can expect the introduction of a larger number of lines as early as the beginning of June.

May 4, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Brussels Airlines flights to Dubrovnik and Split resume from June, while Zagreb and Zadar are no longer in the Belgian national airline's network of destinations.
Croatian Aviation reports that although the Belgian national airline and Lufthansa group member Brussels Airlines previously announced the reintroduction of scheduled flights this summer from the Belgian capital to four Croatian airports; Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, and Zagreb, the lines to Zagreb and Zadar are no longer on sale and the company will not operate to the two mentioned airports in the summer.
The company confirmed that they intended to resume the routes to four Croatian airports, but the assessment of the market analysis determined that the demand for Zadar and Zagreb airports will be insufficient this summer season. For this reason, the routes from Brussels to Zadar and Zagreb have been withdrawn from sale and Brussels Airlines will not operate on them this year.
Brussels Airlines has a codeshare contract with Croatia Airlines, which operates regularly between Zagreb and Brussels, so tickets on this route can be purchased on the Brussels Airlines website. With one stop in Zagreb, it is possible to travel to Zadar airport.
However, just like last summer season, Brussels Airlines will soon resume traffic on routes from Brussels to Split Airport and Dubrovnik Airport.
The Brussels - Split - Brussels line will be in operation from Saturday, June 5. The company currently plans only one flight a week on this route throughout the summer season.
The Brussels - Dubrovnik - Brussels line has been announced from June 1, once a week, on Tuesdays, and by mid-June, the company will introduce a second weekly flight, every Saturday.

May 4, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Croatia Airlines summer flights have been announced to 33 international destinations from 4 Croatian Airports!
Croatian Aviation reports that the Croatian national airline Croatia Airlines announced a destination plan for this summer season with departures from four Croatian airports: Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, and Rijeka.
The largest number of international lines was announced from its central hub, Zagreb, with as many as 14 lines, followed by Split, Dubrovnik, and Rijeka.
This summer, Croatia Airlines will operate from Zagreb to as many as 14 European destinations. Most of the announced lines are already in service. Still, with the beginning of June, the number of weekly operations to almost all destinations is expected to increase and the introduction of regular lines to Dublin and Athens.
Certain destinations to which Croatia Airlines normally operated from Zagreb in the summer were missing. The company points out that it is ready to react to the increase in demand and operate on certain routes that are not currently announced if necessary.
The Croatian national carrier will increase the number of international routes from Split Airport. Namely, as many as 12 scheduled flights have been announced, and a new one will operate - Croatia Airlines will connect Prague and Split with one flight a week, on Saturdays. Return tickets on this line are currently on sale for 970 kuna.
In addition to Prague, regular routes to Vienna, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, London, Lyon, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Zurich are also announced.
Although Croatia Airlines does not currently have international routes from Dubrovnik, this will change as early as this month when Dubrovnik will be connected to Frankfurt again. Along the route to Frankfurt, Croatia will offer direct flights from Dubrovnik to Athens, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Zurich.
Rijeka should be connected to Munich again from the beginning of June. Croatia Airlines plans three flights a week on this route, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and in addition to the code-share with Lufthansa, a flight is also available on Saturdays. This is extremely important for Rijeka Airport, which has no new routes this year (only one from Frankfurt), so Croatia Airlines will connect Rijeka with a large European hub such as Munich.
In addition to regular lines, the company has been engaged on charter lines for a long time, which is planned to continue this summer season, especially on charters from the markets of Austria, Italy, Ireland, Israel, and Scandinavia.
Tickets on all these routes are available for booking on the official website of the national airline.
With 33 international routes from and to four Croatian airports, Croatia Airlines will support the tourism sector in Croatia in this summer season. Like last year, it will be imperative to have good air connections with European destinations.

May 3, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as there were over 50 flights at Croatian airports during the first weekend of May!
Croatian Aviation reports that Croatian airports last weekend (May 1 to 2, 2021) saw an increase in international routes compared to the last weekend of April. Namely, five Croatian airports had more than 50 international routes! Only Rijeka, Brac, and Osijek did not have direct flights to destinations outside Croatia.
Zagreb Airport, as expected, had the largest number of domestic and international routes. From Zagreb on Saturday, it was possible to travel directly to and from Paris, Doha, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Moscow, Warsaw, Zurich, Split, Zadar, Pula, and Dubrovnik. The largest number of flights was operated by Croatia Airlines, while the Dutch KLM had two flights. Traffic was more significant on Sunday when Zagreb had direct lines to Istanbul, Paris, Kyiv, Frankfurt, Vienna, Cologne, Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Sarajevo, Zurich, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, and Zadar. Croatia Airlines again performed the most flights, while the Dutch KLM and the German Lufthansa had two flights each.
Russian Aeroflot landed in Zagreb on Saturday from Moscow with an A321 aircraft, while on Sunday, a NEO version of the same aircraft was sent to Zagreb by Turkish Airlines.
Split Airport also had better traffic this weekend. EasyJet had regular flights from Berlin, Basel, and Geneva, Eurowings from Stuttgart and Dusseldorf, Lufthansa from Munich and Frankfurt, Vueling from Barcelona, KLM from Amsterdam, Smartwings from Prague, and Croatia Airlines from Zagreb, Munich, and Frankfurt. KLM sent a larger aircraft (B737-800) to Split, Smartwings B737-700, and Lufthansa on the Frankfurt A319 route.
The traffic was less intense on Sunday. EasyJet operated from Basel, KLM from Amsterdam, LOT from Warsaw, Austrian from Vienna, Lufthansa from Munich, and Croatia Airlines from Zagreb, Frankfurt, Osijek, and Rome. This weekend, Split was connected with as many as 15 destinations in Croatia and Europe!
The first flights last weekend were operated from Prague (Smartwings), Berlin (EasyJet), and Barcelona (Vueling).
The increase in arrivals and departures was also recorded at Dubrovnik Airport. Lufthansa connected Dubrovnik with Frankfurt, LOT with Warsaw, Croatia Airlines with Zagreb, while Air Baltic made its first flight this season from Riga.
On Sunday, it was possible to see the aircraft of Vueling (from Barcelona), Austrian Airlines (from Vienna), Iberia (from Madrid), and Croatia Airlines (from Zagreb) in Dubrovnik.
Pula welcomed Lufthansa's first flight this season from Frankfurt on Saturday, while Russian S7 Airlines rotated between Moscow and Pula on Sunday. The line was introduced last weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, Pula directly connected with Zagreb and Zadar with a domestic flight of Croatia Airlines.
Zadar Airport also welcomed the first Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt. Like Pula, it had a domestic Croatia Airlines flight from Zagreb via Pula back to Zagreb on Saturday and Sunday.
Rijeka, Brac, and Osijek did not have international traffic on regular lines this weekend. It should be noted that Osijek was connected to Split by a Croatia Airlines flight, while there was no domestic traffic to Rijeka and Brac last weekend. The increase in international lines compared to the last weekend of April is significant and expected, as traffic at the European level begins to recover. From week to week, Croatian airports will have more and more airlines, and consequently, passengers.

April 30, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Lufthansa flights to Zadar and Pula resume this weekend!
Croatian Aviation reports that German national airline Lufthansa will operate again today to Pula and tomorrow to Zadar.
Germany's Lufthansa is resuming traffic on two more lines to Croatia. After the company reconnected Frankfurt and Zagreb and regularly operates on routes from Munich and Frankfurt to Split and Dubrovnik, as of this weekend, Lufthansa includes two more destinations in Croatia - Pula Airport and Zadar Airport!
From today, Pula Airport will once again have a regular route to Frankfurt. Lufthansa will operate the first flight on this route in the late afternoon, then again tomorrow, and flights throughout the week are announced once a week, every Saturday. The number of weekly flights should increase in June, and then the Munich-Pula-Munich route will be introduced.
On Saturday, May 1, Lufthansa will make its first flight in this summer season on the Frankfurt - Zadar - Frankfurt route. An E190 aircraft has been announced for the first flight, and flights will take place once a week, every Saturday, until the end of May. A larger number of weekly operations is expected on this line in June as well.
Next Saturday, May 8, Lufthansa will resume traffic on the line between Zadar and Munich once a week (Saturday).
This weekend, Lufthansa will have as many as 7 international routes to 5 Croatian airports, and as of next weekend, 8 of them. Rijeka Airport, another Lufthansa destination in Croatia, will not have flights for some time. Namely, scheduled flights on the route from Munich and on the new route from Frankfurt have been postponed to the beginning of July.
Tickets are on sale on the airline's official website, and, as with most other companies, travel date changes are allowed if you are unable to travel on the originally planned date.

April 30, 2021 - As tourism chiefs gather in Dubrovnik, several sources indicate that direct flights from New York JFK to Dubrovnik with Delta Air Lines will be announced today.
Apparently the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Stancic, is in town, flying into Dubrovnik from Zagreb last night.
And a press conference has been announced.
Perhaps he is going to issue me with another pointless lawsuit, or perhaps he is going to make a public apology to me and the Croatian taxpayer for wasting my time and their money. (Read more in Croatian Media Compares Paul Bradbury Lawsuit to Kafka's 'The Trial')
But I think there is another reason for the press conference, for there are other things afoot.
Ina Rodin, New York Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, is also in town, along with a group of American travel agents on a fam trip around Croatia.
It is just over two weeks until the elections.
Hmmm. Put all the above together, and I am guessing there is some big announcement coming. A lot bigger than another pointless lawsuit in any case.
The New York connection can mean only one thing - a new direct flight announcement. I did some digging with some New York and aviation contacts, and it appears that we have some big news on the way.
I don't normally report on flight speculation until things are officially confirmed, but my contacts in the States are pretty sure on this one, and I will be offline in a workshop all day at the Dubrovnik Digital Nomads in Residence programme.
From the information I have sourced, I would expect the following announcement:
Delta Air Lines will initiation a direct connection between New York JFK to Dubrovnik this summer. It will be a seasonal line beginning in July and flying four times a week.
Add this to the recent announcement of United Airlines also flying from Newark to Dubrovnik, and this is yet more excellent news for Dubrovnik, which is the most flight-dependent destination in Croatia, as well as the preferred choice for American tourists.
Interest in Dubrovnik has always been strong from the American market, and the city got some great free promo last year via our Total Croatia Travel INFO Viber community (which won the 2021 International PR Grand PRix for Crisis Management), as Kresimir Macan, the City of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik Tourist Board hosted the ABC crew for several days, resulting in 6 features on ABC News, including this one above on Good Morning America, which was watched by 12.5 million people.
One of the first places that could share the news to an American audience once confirmed is the KB and Marlee radio show, which normally broadcasts from Fort Worth in Texas. Marlee is currently in Dubrovnik, however, one of the 10 winners of the inaugural Dubrovnik Digital Nomads-in-Residence programme. Here she is in the old quarantine station of Lazareti, close to the city walls, currently a co-working space for digital nomads.
We will provide an update to the story after the press conference with confirmed details, assuming it is the flight announcement. Or perhaps another lawsuit. Or public apology.
For more flight announcement news, follow the dedicated TCN section.
April 29, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Croatia Airlines resumes flights from Osijek to Split and Dubrovnik, with the resumption of Zagreb-Brac from next month.
Croatian Aviation reports that the Croatian national airline has resumed domestic flights from Osijek to Split and Dubrovnik. Regular flights between Zagreb and Brac are expected to be re-established soon.
The Split - Osijek - Split line has been in operation since Sunday, April 11. The line will continue to operate once a week throughout May, also on Sundays.
The Dubrovnik - Osijek - Dubrovnik line has been in operation since April 19, also once a week, every Monday. Flights will also be available in May on the same day.
The only domestic seasonal line on which traffic has not yet been renewed is the line between Zagreb and Brač. Croatia Airlines plans to restart this route from Saturday, May 8, once a week, on Saturdays. The introduction of the second weekly flight, every Tuesday, is expected in early June.
Croatia Airlines still operates regular flights on domestic routes from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, and Pula, while Trade Air operates domestic routes from Osijek Airport.
Furthermore, Russian airline Nordwind, a low-cost airline based in Moscow, made its first flight on a new route to Pula Airport.
The 14-year-old aircraft type A321-231 (reg. Marked VP-BHN) landed at Pula Airport on Wednesday at 4:20 pm, after a 3-hour flight from Moscow.
This is the first flight of this Russian low-cost airline to Pula Airport, which used a larger aircraft for the first flight than planned, with a capacity of 220 seats. The line will continue to operate once a week, every Wednesday, with afternoon arrivals and departures from Pula.
The same airline plans to launch a regular route between Moscow and Zagreb soon. Although the flights were announced in October, and then at the beginning of this year, they have not yet operated on this line.
The first flight on the new route to Zagreb has been announced for April 30, and from the beginning of May, two flights a week have been announced, on Mondays and Fridays.
In addition to Pula and Zagreb, a new line to Dubrovnik Airport has been announced, but only from the beginning of June, also once a week.
Along with S7 and Aeroflot, this is the third Russian airline to operate regular international traffic between Russia and Croatia this summer.
