November 25, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, and Zadar.
Avio Radar reports that Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea has announced a new route in their 2020 flight schedule that will connect the Greek island of Mykonos to Dubrovnik. The new Mykonos-Dubrovnik route will run twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from May 30, 2020. A Boeing 717-200 should service this line.
Thus, for the first time in history, Mykonos will be connected regularly to a Croatian destination. Mykonos is only the second destination in Greece to operate a regular line to Croatia.
Avio Radar also announced that LOT Polish Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance airline association, has begun selling tickets on the Warsaw-Rijeka route. Unlike prior announcements, the new Warsaw-Rijeka line will run for a shorter period of time, i.e., from June 7 to September 27, 2020. LOT will operate one flight per week, on Sundays. The Embraer ERJ-195 aircraft was announced for this route.
Other LOT Polish Airlines routes to Croatia (from Warsaw to Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, and Zagreb) are on sale the same as this year. However, the Warsaw-Pula line is no longer on offer for next year. Additionally, this year’s new Krakow-Dubrovnik line has been canceled.
To wrap up this edition of flight news, HRTurizam writes that Croatian tourism workers will undoubtedly agree that the key even more success in Croatian tourism, whether we are talking about extending the season or increasing the average earnings from tourism, is an adequate investment in the development of tourism infrastructure, content and, offers, to optimize the "value for money" relationship, which, according to all research, is crucial when choosing a destination.
To this end, the Croatian National Tourist Board's Market Research and Strategic Planning Department has prepared an overview of direct flights and direct air connections of Croatian airports with 20 significant markets according to information obtained from Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Zadar, Osijek, Pula, Mali Losinj, Brac and Rijeka.

For the 2020 summer flight schedule, Easyjet has announced this aircraft on selected routes to Croatia and will land at four airports in Croatia to which Easyjet operates. The first arrival is in Dubrovnik on May 5, 2020.
London (LGW) - Dubrovnik (DBV), once a week, Tuesday, May 5, 2020
Paris (CDG) - Split (SPU), once a week, Wednesday, June 22, 2020
Bristol (BRS) - Split (SPU), once a week, Saturday, June 27, 2020
Milan (MXP) - Zadar (ZAD), once a week, June 25, 2020
Paris (CDG) - Pula (PUY), once a week, Wednesday, July 1, 2020
The Basel/Mulhouse (BSL) - Pula (PUY) line has also been strengthened for the 2020 summer flight schedule. Namely, this line will run three flights per week instead of this year's two flights per week. This line will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from June 23 to August 29, 2020.
In other flight news, Ex Yu Aviation reports that Czech Airlines will stop its seasonal service between Prague and Zagreb.
“At this moment, the route Prague - Zagreb is not planned for the 2020 summer season,” the carrier said for Ex Yu Aviation.
With the discontinuation of this line, Croatia Airlines will be the sole seasonal route from Zagreb to the Czech capital, which will operate next year from April 7th and fly four times per week until the end of October.
Recall, when Czech Airlines launched the service between the two capitals back in 2016, it ran throughout the year. Back in 2017, the airline moved to a seasonal service.

November 14, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, and Zadar.
Ex Yu Aviation reports that low-cost carrier Eurowings will discontinue services from Berlin and Dusseldorf to Zagreb at the end of March next year, namely on March 28, 2020. In the past, Eurowings has complained about Zagreb Airport's significantly high airport fees, which is tough for low-cost carriers. With no competition on these two routes, Zagreb will no longer be linked to the German capital.
However, operations from Cologne and Stuttgart and their seasonal summer service to Hamburg will continue as usual. Next summer, Eurowings will operate six weekly flights from Cologne to Zagreb, five weekly flights from Stuttgart to Zagreb, and eight from Hamburg, with flights running once a week between July 8 and August 26.
Eurowings is currently the only low-cost carrier operating year-round flights to Zagreb.
Avio Radar reports that Greek national carrier Aegean Airlines, a Star Alliance member, announced larger planes for all flights to Croatia in their 2020 flight schedule. Flights will no longer run on the Bombardier Q400 aircraft of the Greek regional carrier Olympic Air, but instead be operated by the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.
The Athens-Dubrovnik route remains in operation with five flights per week using an Airbus A320 on all flights. The Athens-Split route will operate four times a week on the Airbus A319 instead of this year’s five flights per week on the smaller Bombardier Q400. Flights will no longer run on Sundays and remain on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The Athens-Zagreb route will operate three times a week on Wednesdays and Sundays with the Airbus A319 aircraft, while it will use the larger Airbus A320 on Mondays. This year, Aegean operated four flights per week to Zagreb with the smaller Bombardier Q400. This route will no longer work on Thursdays.
Avio Radar also reports that Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will introduce a new flight from Poland to Zadar in the summer. It will connect Zadar with the town of Gdansk in northern Poland three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from March 31, 2020.
Ryanair started operating flights between Poland and Zadar only this year when the Krakow-Zadar and Poznan-Zadar routes were introduced twice a week, which will continue in 2020. The new Gdansk-Zadar line will be the third from Poland to Zadar. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft of the Polish company Buzz will fly on all three lines.
Buzz started operating in 2017. Ryanair founded this company in Poland under the name Ryanair Sun and initially flew only charter flights from Poland. It has now taken over most of Ryanair’s regular lines from Poland and Hungary. It already has 24 Boeing 737-800 aircraft in its fleet.

Avio Radar reports that Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea launched many new lines in its 2020 flight schedule, which includes something new for Split.
Namely, in a short time, Volotea has added a fourth new line in their offer to Croatia next year, which includes a trip between Italy and Split.
Thus, the Bari-Split line will circulate once a week, on Wednesdays, only in the heart of the season, i.e., from July 8 to August 26. This will be the third line from Italy to Split next year, with existing lines from Palermo and Venice. Earlier this year, the first line from Greece to Split was announced from Athens. The Boeing 717-200 aircraft is expected to run on this line.
Recall, Avio Radar reported earlier Volotea also strengthened three flights from France to Split in its 2020 summer flight schedule. Namely, flights from Lyon, Nantes, and Toulouse will fly to Split three times a week next year - on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays in the peak season. On the other hand, the Marseille-Split route, which only ran three flights a week, was reduced to two flights per week.
Furthermore, Avio Radar reports that SunClass Airlines is the new name of the Danish airline Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia. The Scandinavian branch of Thomas Cook resumed traffic after a one-day hiatus about a month ago, when its parent British airline Thomas Cook Airlines collapsed in September. The new business owner has now changed its name to SunClass Airlines and will keep Thomas Cook’s yellow heart logo.
Thus, a new line for Croatia in the 2020 summer flight schedule has been announced. Namely, the Copenhagen-Split line will operate once a week on Fridays from May 29 to September 25. SunClass Airlines will continue working on this year’s Thomas Cook routes between Gothenburg-Split, also once a week on Fridays, and between Helsinki-Split, which will also run once a week, but on Wednesdays. Tickets are on sale through the Scandinavian agencies Spies, Tjareborg, and Ving.
An Airbus type A321 aircraft was announced on all lines. Currently, the fleet consists of 8 Airbus A321 aircraft and four larger Airbus A330 aircraft.

Namely, Great Dane will run between Aalborg and Split once a week, on Saturdays, from June 26 to August 29, 2020. This is a brand new line that is not operated by any other airlines, and will run in cooperation with Scandinavian travel agency Appolo Reiser.
There are currently two Embraer ERJ-195 aircraft in the Great Dane fleet. The main operating base is at the Aalborg Airport in northern Denmark. Namely, TUI will service Split from Birmingham once a week, on Fridays, from May 1 to October 9, 2020. A Boeing 737-800 aircraft will fly on this line. It is also the third TUI Airways flight to Split next year, with the addition of the existing routes from London (Gatwick) and Manchester.
Recall, TUI Airways increased capacity in their post-season route from London (Gatwick) to Rijeka this month. Specifically, the larger Boeing 757-200 aircraft ran on this line, instead of the smaller Boeing 737-800, with three arrivals on Thursdays from October 3 to 17.
In other TUI news, their Belgium branch announced a new route between Brussels and Pula in its 2020 summer flight schedule. Namely, this line will begin operations from April 25, 2020, with two flights a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A Boeing 737-800 aircraft will serve this line.

The new Palermo-Dubrovnik line will operate once a week, on Wednesdays, from July 8 to August 26, 2020. A Boeing 717 aircraft is expected to service this line.
At the same time, the Dubrovnik-Bari line has been strengthened. In addition to one flight per week on Wednesdays, Volotea will add another trip in the heart of the season on Mondays. On the other hand, both routes from Bergamo to Croatia will no longer operate next year. These are the flights to Dubrovnik and Split.
Recall, Avio Radar reported earlier this week that Volotea announced a new flight from France to Dubrovnik in their 2020 flight schedule. The new Toulouse-Dubrovnik route will begin operations from April 4, 2020, with two flights a week - on Wednesdays and Sundays. The end of the seasonal service is currently unknown, as tickets are on sale until the end of August. An Airbus A319 aircraft will fly on this route.
This route will take the place of German carrier Germania, which filed for bankruptcy in February this year. Germania flew only once a week between Toulouse and Dubrovnik on Sundays.

This is the second new Lauda line to Croatia in their 2020 flight schedule after the Vienna-Dubrovnik route was added. It is also interesting to note that the Austrian national carrier and Star Alliance member Austrian Airlines also announced a new route between Vienna and Zadar for next year, which will run daily. Compared to this summer, when only Eurowings ran two flights per week between Vienna and Zadar, there are now ten flights a week on this route for next year.
Furthermore, Avio Radar reports that Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea has announced a new flight from France to Dubrovnik in their 2020 flight schedule. October 21, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Dubrovnik and Zagreb.
Avio Radar reports that Turkish airline Freebird Airlines began a winter charter service from Dubrovnik to various cities in Europe, which started on September 30. One Airbus a320 aircraft is based in Dubrovnik and has two charter routes each day to various destinations in Europe, including Amsterdam, Vienna, Berlin (Shonefeld), Billund, Brussels, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Hanover, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Leipzig, Munich, Oslo (Gardermoen), Rotterdam, Stockholm (Arlanda), and Stuttgart.
The charter lines are organized by the travel agency RSD Reisen. Last year, Greek charter carrier Aegean Airlines flew on these lines, and before them was Turkish Corendon Airlines.
Freebird Airlines began operating in 2000 with its main operating base at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Currently, an Airbus A320 aircraft, registered TC-FBR, is based in Dubrovnik. It was produced in 2005 for the Indian airline Air Deccan. Following the collapse of the Indian carrier in 2009, it was taken over by the current Turkish carrier. Freebird has 10 Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet. One Airbus A320 is registered with its Maltese subsidiary, Freebird Airlines Europe, which allows the Turkish airline to fly charter flights to destinations within the European Union.
In other flight news, Avio Radar reports that Flydubai has further reduced winter traffic on the Dubai-Zagreb line. While traffic has already been reduced from seven to five flights per week, it has now been decreased to four fights per week. The route will be in service on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
During the Christmas and New Year holidays, the line will be increased to six flights per week. This line operates in conjunction with Emirates, which runs daily summer flights on the Boeing 777-300, while Flydibai takes the winter period.

October 18, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Rijeka, Split, Pula, and Dubrovnik.
Avio Radar reports that German low-cost carrier Eurowings has reduced traffic to Rijeka and Split in the upcoming winter flight schedule, starting October 27. The Rijeka-Dusseldorf line will remain in traffic with two flights a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, only during the first three weeks of the winter flight schedule, i.e., until November 17. The line will begin operating again from May 2, 2020.
Eurowings reduced winter traffic to Split, too. On the routes from Split to Cologne/Bonn and Split to Stuttgart, which flew three times a week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the Cologne line will no longer operate on Tuesdays, and Stuttgart will not run on Fridays. The Split-Munich route, which runs two flights a week on Mondays and Fridays, will not operate at all from January 11 to February 9, 2020. Only the Split-Dusseldorf line remains in operation with two flights a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, throughout the winter timetable, or until March 28, 2020.
Avio Radar also reports that Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has announced a new flight from Germany to Rijeka in their 2020 flight schedule, which will connect Rijeka to Hahn Airport near Frankfurt. The line will be in service starting April 4 with one flight a week, on Saturdays. The flight number is the same as the line that flew from Frankfurt’s main airport to Rijeka this year. Because that option is not on offer for next year, the new line between Hahn Airport and Rijeka has replaced the former Frankfurt line.
Ryanair has also made changes to Pula. Namely, this year, Pula operated flights to both Frankfurt airports twice a week, on the same days, Mondays and Fridays. Just like the Rijeka route, the line from Frankfurt’s main airport is no longer on offer. On the other hand, the Hahn-Pula route will run an additional flight per week next year. Thus, in addition to trips on Mondays and Fridays, a third flight has been introduced on Sundays. This line will begin operations on March 29, 2020.
To end this week of flight news, Avio Radar reports that Latvian national carrier Air Baltic has released its 2020 flight schedule. Three lines from the Latvian capital to Croatia remain in circulation for next year. Namely, the Riga-Split line has been strengthened. In addition to this year’s two flights per week, on Mondays and Fridays, Air Baltic has introduced a third weekly flight on Wednesdays, in the heart of the peak season.
The Riga-Dubrovnik line remains in operation with two flights a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the same as this year. Both lines will begin operating three weeks earlier than this year, i.e., from the beginning of May 2020. The Riga-Rijeka route will run the same as this year, with two flights a week on Wednesdays and Sundays, with operations beginning towards the end of May.

October 16, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Rijeka and Croatia Airlines.
Avio Radar reports that Serbian national carrier Air Serbia has made changes to the upcoming winter flight schedule on the Belgrade-Rijeka route. As announced, this line will remain in service throughout the winter with two flights per week. The winter timetable will be in effect from October 27, 2019, to March 28, 2020.
Instead of running on Tuesdays and Fridays as it did in the summer flight schedule, this service will run on Mondays and Thursdays throughout winter. This line will not operate in the middle of the day as it did this summer, but on Mondays in the evening and Thursdays in the morning. An ATR-72 aircraft will fly on this line.
Furthermore, Avio Radar reports that British carrier TUI Airways has increased capacity in their post-season route from London (Gatwick) to Rijeka. Specifically, in October, the larger Boeing 757-200 aircraft has run on this line, instead of the smaller Boeing 737-800, with three arrivals on Thursdays from October 3 to 17.
TUI Airways’ aircraft will finally run on this line. Namely, since the route launched in May, the aircraft has been leased from other airlines, mostly the Boeing 737-800 from Norwegian Air Shuttle.
The Boeing 757-200 aircraft often arrives on the TUI Airways route to Dubrovnik and Pula. TUI Airways has only 12 Boeing 757-200 aircraft in its fleet.
Croatia Airlines has also announced some small changes to its flight schedule this year.
Recall, Croatia will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1, 2020. With that said, Ex Yu Aviation reported last month that the national carrier would add one flight per week between Brussels and Zagreb, totaling to 12 per week. Furthermore, the seasonal service between Zagreb and Dublin will work until January 26, 2020, while its operations between Zagreb and Lisbon will end at the end of October.
Croatia Airlines will maintain the same winter operations for other Croatian cities this year, which include flights from Split to Frankfurt, Munich and Rome, Dubrovnik to Frankfurt, and Rijeka to Munich. Croatia Airlines has also announced no changes to its winter operations between Croatian locations.
Recall, Croatia Airlines is currently undergoing a privatization process, which the Croatian Minister for Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, previously said should be completed by the end of the year. “I believe we will deliver within the set timeframe,” the Minister said. Privredna banka Zagreb (PBZ) and Germany's DVB Bank are advising the airline in the process.
While the national carrier projects a 5% increase in passenger traffic by the end of 2019, there are no plans to make any significant changes to its services until the privatization process is complete.
Ex Yu Aviation adds that Croatia Airlines even dropped its plans to extend the wet-lease for one of Air Nostrum's Bombardier CRJ1000 jets into the winter months, which would have lengthened some of its seasonal routes. Croatia Airlines currently maintains twelve routes from Zagreb during the summer.
