June 7, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Split and the island of Losinj.

Croatian Aviation reports that Scandinavian Airlines, better known as SAS, the airline of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, will soon launch two international routes to Croatia.

SAS is a long-time guest at Croatian coastal airports, so it is not surprising that it will be among the first after the corona crisis to launch two flights to Split Airport.

The company has announced a flight schedule for June, while the schedule for July will be finalized soon.

From June 20, the company will introduce the Copenhagen - Split line, twice a week (Wednesdays and Saturdays), with the A320neo aircraft.

From the same date, the Oslo - Split route will be introduced, but only once a week (on Saturdays), with the same type of aircraft, the A320neo, which has a capacity of 174 seats in the fleet of this carrier.

In the summer flight schedule, SAS operates from numerous destinations in Scandinavia to Pula, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik, but the company has so far announced only two flights for Split Airport.

Avio Radar reports that Czech airline Silver Air has returned to traffic in Italy and is flying again from several Italian cities to the island of Elba. Losinj is planned this year as well, but with only one line from Switzerland on offer. The Losinj - Zagreb line is no longer available, nor are the other lines from Losinj to Split and Pula, or other Italian destinations. 

The Lugano -  Losinj line is offered once a week, on Wednesdays, which is one flight less per week than last year. Traffic on this route is planned from July 8 to September 30 with the Let L-410 Turboolet aircraft. 

Finally, Avio Radar reports that on Saturday,June 6, German low-cost carrier Eurowings increased traffic on two lines from Germany to Split. Namely, on the planned routes on this day, there will be two planes from Dusseldorf and Stuttgart to Split.

An even larger aircraft will come from Dusseldorf, the Airbus A320. Eurowings noted this change thanks to an increased interest in passengers. 

June 5, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Pula. 

Croatian Aviation reports that in its latest statement, Emirates further postponed the start of traffic on the Dubai-Zagreb route.

The company first postponed the line to July, then to August, and the latest news is September. Emirates is currently offering sales on the Dubai-Zagreb route from September 1 this year, four times a week; on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Boeing 777-300ER aircraft have been announced on the route, which has several different configurations in the fleet of this airline, so depending on the registration of the aircraft, they can carry between 354 and 442 passengers.

Considering that Emirates turned the Zagreb line into a seasonal service, and that the partner FlyDubai operates on the route in the winter flight schedule, the chance that Emirates will return to Zagreb this summer is slim. According to the plan, the already mentioned FlyDubai should take over the line from the end of October.

Qatar Airways, a competitor to Emirates (along with Etihad), is still on sale for 3 weeks from the beginning of July to Zagreb, but changes are also possible with this airline in the next two weeks.

The largest aircraft (both in terms of technical specifications and the number of seats in the passenger cabin) in Zagreb was Emirates, while Air Canada Rouge and Korean Air flew with long-range and capacity aircraft to the Croatian capital. However, both have canceled their flights completely for this summer. Air Transat still has a line between Toronto and Zagreb on sale, 3 times a week since the beginning of July.

Furthermore, Avio Radar reports that Swiss airline Edelweiss Air resumed its service from Zurich to Split on June 4. The week, Edelweiss will also arrive on Sunday, June 7. By the end of June, this line will be in service twice a week,  on Thursdays and Sundays, with the Airbus A320 aircraft. From July, the route will operate 5 times a week, or every day except Wednesday and Friday. 

The other two Edelweiss lines for Croatia are planned from July, i.e., the Zurich-Dubrovnik line twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays from July 3, and the Zurich-Pula line, also twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from July 1. 

Finally, Avio Radar reports that Latvian airline Air Baltic will establish a route between Riga and Rijeka from June 17. Flights from Riga were scheduled for July 29, but the carrier decided to launch a month and a half earlier despite the current corona situation. The line will operate on Wednesdays with an Airbus A220-300 instead of last year’s Boeing 737-300.

Air Baltic also announces flights to Split and Dubrovnik from June 20.

June 4, 2020 - The Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) announced that Croatia has positioned itself as a safe and desirable tourist destination thanks to its excellent epidemiological situation, which is confirmed by numerous airline announcements.

Despite the global coronavirus pandemic, which still has a strong impact on international tourism trends, Croatia has additionally positioned itself as a safe and desirable tourist destination due to its excellent epidemiological situation in the international market. This is confirmed by numerous announcements of airlines that will connect Croatian destinations with key markets during the main summer months. According to information gathered by the Croatian National Tourist Board through its representative offices, most flights have been announced for the second half of June and early July for the airports of Split and Dubrovnik, as well as for Zadar, Pula, Zagreb and Rijeka. Most flights to Croatian destinations were announced from the markets of Germany, Benelux and France.

"Most tourist traffic in Croatia is realized through road traffic, i.e., through arrivals by car, which, with a share of about 75 percent, is the most common way to come to our country. However, in recent years, Croatia has positioned itself as an air destination, and this is especially important in the current circumstances in which our offer, safety, but also transport accessibility we have to fight for our share in the tourist market. Awakening air traffic again will help Croatian destinations, especially Dubrovnik and Split, to be more accessible to many travel enthusiasts," said Croatian National Tourist Board director Kristjan Staničić.

Among the announced routes to Split are Austrian Airlines flights from Austria, Luxairtours, Transavia and easyJet from Benelux, Transavia and easyJet from France, Condor and Eurowings from Germany, easyJet and Wizz Air from Great Britain. Confirmed is also a Croatia Airlines flight that will connect Split with Rome from mid-June. Austrian Airlines flights from Austria, Luxairtours, TUI, easyJet, and Brussels Airlines from Benelux, Transavia and easyJet from France have been announced for Dubrovnik, as well as flights from Germany, Hungary, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

According to the announcements, Ryanair, Luxairtours and easyJet will connect Zadar with the Benelux market, while Ryanair will also connect this Croatian destination with German destinations, including Stuttgart, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe and Cologne. According to the announcements, Pula will be connected with Ryanair, Luxairtours and easyJet flights to the Benelux market, and flights from Paris, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and London have also been announced. Flights from the markets of Germany, Great Britain and Benelux have been announced for the airports of Rijeka and Zagreb.

We would like to remind you that Croatia Airlines, in addition to the existing international routes from Zagreb to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Zurich, will also offer flights connecting the Croatian capital with Brussels, Munich, Sarajevo, London and Rome from June 15, from Zagreb to Dublin on June 16, and to Vienna from June 18.

June 4, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, Zadar and Pula. 

Croatian Aviation reports that given that the borders between EU member states should open from June 15, the Croatian national carrier has released tickets for sale to several European destinations from Zagreb.

In addition to the existing international lines from Zagreb to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Zurich, from June 15, the following flights are on sale:

Zagreb - Brussels, 4 times a week (Mon, Thu, Fri, Sun),

Zagreb - Munich, 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri),

Zagreb - Sarajevo, 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri),

Zagreb - London, 2 times a week (Mon, Fri),

Zagreb - Split - Rome, 3 times a week (Mon, Thu, Sun).

From June 16, the Zagreb - Dublin line will be introduced, 3 times a week (Tue, Thu, Sun), and from June 18, the Zagreb - Vienna line will be introduced, 2 times a week (Thu, Sun).

On the routes to London and Dublin, A319 / A320 aircraft will operate, while on other routes, smaller capacity aircraft of the DashQ400 type will operate.

As of June 15, Croatia Airlines will operate to 11 international destinations, along with domestic routes to Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Pula.

As of Monday, June 22, the company has more weekly flights on sale than in the first week of operations, but Croatia Airlines is likely to further modify its flight schedule for that period.

June 3, 2020 - TCN meets the current EU Presidency Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli who kindly agreed to answer questions on the current travel situation in Croatia and the EU.

There is a lot of talk about the internal borders being opened on June 15, but I can't find an official announcement. Are EU internal borders opening on June 15?

We are aiming to reopen internal borders on June 15 or June 16, but this has not yet been 100% confirmed. An announcement will be made shortly. There is also a big meeting of EU members scheduled for June 19. While we all want tourism to start, the epidemiological situation must be under control. Even when we do open borders, I would expect some countries to have restrictions. We are working towards a date of June 15. This opening of borders will be for all EU states, not just those in Schengen. 

What about external EU borders and continental flights?

We are currently working with the airlines towards an opening of external borders on July 1, but ONLY for countries which have a good epidemiological situation.

If an American is already living or travelling in Europe, can they currently visit Croatia?

Yes. If they can get to the Croatian border and fulfill Croatia's entry requirements, they are very welcome. We have had 316 Americans entering the country in recent days. 

There has been speculation about air bridges from the UK to other tourism countries, including Croatia. Can you tell us more?

No. I have been involved in no such discussions, yet.

What is the situation for people wanting to drive to Croatia from across Europe. Are there any problems?

I have heard of a couple of isolated incidents, but in general, there is no problem. My strong advice is to register your details at https://entercroatia.mup.hr/ This is a service that we developed very quickly so that we can facilitate smoother travel for our guests, a quicker border crossing, and the ability to contact our guests in the event of a virus outbreak. If you are driving to Croatia, fill in this form and you will receive a confirmation from the Croatian police. Show that confirmation and proof of paid reservation, and you will have no problem.

June 4, 2020 - With tourism slowly starting, who is flying to Split and Dubrovnik, and how many flights are scheduled this month?

I met with Croatian Minister of Tourism, Gari Cappelli yesterday to discuss various issues relating to tourism. Minister Cappelli gave me some official answers on EU border openings, air bridges and driving across Europe to enter Croatia. I will publish this interview once all the information in the article is double-checked, hopefully today. Croatia currently hold the EU presidency, so Minister Cappelli is speaking on behalf of the EU, so all must be 100% correct. 

One other issue I asked for is better access to current information for our readers. We start with something many people want to know - who is flying to Split, how many planes are there, and where from. PLEASE NOTE this is purely advisory and you should check everything with the relevant airline. Changes and cancellations are inevitable.

IMPORTANT! – This information are announcements and are subject to change.

Regarding the airport in Split: There are a total of 365 active flights (39 to 15 June + 326 second half of June) with 115,365 seats. Although the announcements are still valid, it is realistic to expect the realization of about 50 percent of the announced flights (180 flights).

Destinations for Airport Split in June 2020:

At Dubrovnik Airport, in the second half of June, there are currently 10 active flights from Tel Aviv, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Pariz, Nantes, Porto and confirmation of additional routes is expected.

June 3, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, and Zadar.

As we announced earlier, Lufthansa will fly from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik and Pula from the end of June. However, Croatian Aviation announced today that the company published a modified flight schedule to destinations in Croatia, according to which Lufthansa normally operates in the summer flight schedule.

In addition to the reintroduction of the Frankfurt-Dubrovnik route, Lufthansa will operate again on the Munich-Dubrovnik route from June 20, once a week, every Saturday. A larger number of weekly flights is expected from the beginning of July when the company could fly on both routes (from Frankfurt and Munich) daily to Dubrovnik.

Lufthansa is returning to Split Airport, connecting this city with Frankfurt and Munich.

From June 20, the line Munich - Split will be introduced, once a week, every Saturday, and from June 27, the line Frankfurt - Split, also once a week, on Saturdays. As is the case with Dubrovnik, a number of weekly flights to Split Airport is expected from July.

On routes to Split and Dubrovnik, Lufthansa will use aircraft from the A320 family (A319, A320, A321) in accordance with the demand and booking on each flight. Smaller aircraft will be used on the route from Frankfurt to Pula.

Likely, the company will not launch other routes to Croatia (Zadar and Rijeka) in June, while the Munich-Zagreb route will most likely be launched by Croatia Airlines, with which Lufthansa has a code-share agreement.

Furthermore, Brussels Airlines previously announced that it would not fly to Zagreb and Zadar this summer season, but has retained the option of launching flights to Dubrovnik and Split.

Croatian Aviation reports that the airline announced a plan to resume regular operations to European destinations from June 15, and from June 27, the destination network will include the Brussels - Dubrovnik line.

The company will operate on the Brussels - Dubrovnik line twice a week, every Tuesday and Sunday, on an A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers in the fleet of this carrier.

The company plans to introduce regular flights on the Brussels - Split route from July, and at the beginning of next month, the company will increase the number of weekly flights to Dubrovnik (probably to four weeks). The flight schedule of this company for July has not been finalized yet, and when it is confirmed, we will publish the details.

Croatian Aviation also reports that Spanish airline Iberia has announced the resumption of its flights to destinations in Europe as well as those in the US. Among others, the company has included the Madrid-Dubrovnik route in its schedule.

The company normally operates to Zagreb, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik from Madrid in the summer flight schedule, but in July, according to current announcements, it will only launch a line to Dubrovnik.

From mid-July, Iberia will operate on the Madrid-Dubrovnik - Madrid route 3 times a week, and announces daily flights from the beginning of August. The company has previously announced larger aircraft, the wide-body A332, but, likely, this type of aircraft will not be used on the route to Dubrovnik Airport this summer season, given that demand will be lower than planned before the pandemic.

The route will be operated by A321 aircraft, which has a capacity of 200 passengers in the Iberian fleet.

The company confirmed to us that the flight schedule for July has not yet been finalized, so the possibility of introducing lines from Madrid to Zagreb and Split is left, while the line Madrid - Zadar is expected from August.

Finally, Avio Radar reports that Czech airline Smartwings announced the resumption of flights on June 10. The first flight announced that day is from Prague to Split. The flight to Split will be followed by the launch of other routes, mainly to Greece and Bulgaria. 

The Prague-Split route will run twice a week in the first week, on Wednesday and Saturday. The second week of traffic will see an additional flight introduced on Monday, and from June 24, the line will operate daily. The Prague-Dubrovnik line has been announced from July 1, every day. From Poland, lines from Katowice and Warsaw to Split are on offer once a week, on Thursdays, from June 18. 

Charter lines are also planned, namely Ostrava-Split, on Saturdays from June 13 and Polish destinations Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, and Warsaw to Dubrovnik from June 25 once a week, on Thursdays. 

Boeing 737-800 aircraft will fly on the routes, and smaller Boeing 737-700 aircraft or larger Boeing 737-900s can also fly. 

June 2, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, and Zadar.

Ryanair plans to resume traffic to Zadar on selected lines from July. The first line from Stuttgart to Zadar, on which Lauda operates, will run from June 28. All other lines are planned to begin operations from the first week of July.

There is not a single new line planned for this year with aircraft based in Zadar. Also, no routes from France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom are on offer. 

Furthermore, on all routes operating from the beginning of July, the number of flights per week has been significantly reduced. Most flights per week have been announced on the Vienna-Zadar route, twice a week from the beginning of July, with reinforcements to three times a week in August. 

In other flight news, Ex Yu Aviation reports that Aegean Airlines has delayed the resumption of all of its flights to Croatia until September. While the airline planned to fly from Athens to Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Split from the beginning of July, they will not resume operations until September 1 to Split, September 2 to Zagreb, and September 3 to Dubrovnik. 

Finally, Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian national carrier Austrian Airlines has confirmed it is re-establishing the Vienna-Zagreb-Vienna route from the end of June.

As announced earlier, Austrian will fly from Vienna to Split and Dubrovnik again this month, so it was logical to expect the introduction of a route to Zagreb, on which, in addition to Austrian, Croatia Airlines also operates regularly.

From June 29, Austrian Airlines will once again connect the capitals of Austria and Croatia with one flight a day.

In the morning, a departure from Vienna to Zagreb is planned at 06:40, with arrival in Zagreb at 7:35. Departure from Zagreb to Vienna is planned for 8:15 am, with arrival in Vienna at 9:15 am.

In the afternoon, the plane will take off from Vienna at 13:10, and the arrival in Zagreb is planned for 14:05. The return to Vienna is at 15:15, with arrival in the Austrian capital at 16:10. In addition to direct (p2p) demand, passengers from Vienna are being offered a large number of destinations in Europe that Austrian will restart from the end of this month.

The smaller capacity aircraft, the DashQ400 and Embraer 190, are planned for the flights.

The company is currently working on a new flight schedule for July, but Austrian is expected to continue flying once a day on the Vienna-Zagreb-Vienna route in the first half of July.

June 1, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, Pula, Zadar, Rijeka.

Croatian Aviation reports that German national airline Lufthansa has announced flights to a number of European destinations, and among others, the company will launch flights to Dubrovnik and Pula.

From June 20, the company will fly from Frankfurt to Pula and Dubrovnik, only once a week, for now.

The Frankfurt - Dubrovnik line is being reintroduced (from June 20), once a week in June, every Saturday. It will operate an A320neo aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers.

The Frankfurt - Pula line is being reintroduced (from June 20), once a week in June, every Saturday. There will be a slightly smaller aircraft (100 passengers) on this route - the Embraer190.

Lufthansa is not currently planning flights to the region from Munich, but will gradually add flights from Frankfurt. Lines to other airports in Croatia are expected to be introduced in July.

Croatian Aviation adds that Croatia Airlines is launching another domestic route. Along with Dubrovnik and Split, from June 8, the line Zagreb - Zadar - Pula will be in traffic.

The route normally operates twice a day in the summer flight schedule, but the domestic national airline is now reintroducing it with one daily flight between the mentioned cities.

From June 8, the line will operate daily, in the evening, with departure from Zagreb at 9 pm and arrival in Pula at 11 pm. Of course, this line, just like before, has a stopover in Zadar. The return flight from Pula departs at 6 am for Zadar, from where the DashQ400 plane continues its journey to Zagreb, where it should land at 07:40 am.

Passengers from Pula and Zadar will be able to continue their journey to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Zurich and Frankfurt with minimal time in Zagreb. In the opposite direction, from the mentioned cities to Pula and Zadar via Zagreb, the waiting time between flights is long and demotivating for passengers.

Latvian national carrier Air Baltic has made operational changes to its seasonal routes to Croatia. Namely, Croatian Aviation reports that the long-term seasonal line Riga - Rijeka, which mainly operated twice a week, this year will operate only once a week from July 29 to September 16.

Air Baltic also announced the introduction of the Vilnius-Rijeka route, which was originally scheduled to operate twice a week, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Riga - Split line will operate once a week from June 29, and the second weekly flight will be introduced from July 31. The original plan of this airline was to fly on the line Riga - Split three times a week, but the number of weekly departures was reduced in accordance with demand.

The Riga - Dubrovnik line will operate twice a week from July 27, there has been no reduction in capacity and weekly departures on this line, but the start of traffic has been postponed until the very end of July.

The Vilnius - Dubrovnik line, which was supposed to operate for the first time this year (just like the Vilnius - Rijeka line), has been completely canceled for this summer season. The two-week flight on this line was originally planned.

This airline will complete the entire summer flight schedule with a unified fleet in order to reduce operating costs, so A220 aircraft are expected on all routes to Croatia, which have a capacity of 145 passengers in the fleet of this carrier.

Finally, Transavia, the low-budget subsidiary of the Air France group - KLM, announced the re-launch of certain lines from France to destinations in Croatia.

Croatian Aviation reports that from June 29, Transavia will launch a total of four routes to the airports in Dubrovnik, Split and Pula.

The Nantes - Dubrovnik line is being reintroduced with two weeks of departure (Wednesdays and Saturdays). The company currently plans to maintain that number of rotations through July as well.

The Paris Orly - Dubrovnik line is being reintroduced, three times a week (Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays). The number of weekly flights is expected to increase to a total of four in July.

The Paris Orly - Split line is reintroduced, three times a week (Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays). The company intends to increase the number of flights to as many as six a week in July.

The Paris Orly - Pula line is also being introduced, twice a week, and it is likely that this number of flights will be maintained in July.

Transavia has B737 aircraft in the fleet, versions 700 and 800, with a capacity of 149 and 189 seats.
