Health Minister Sees Gender Ideology in Istanbul Convention

ZAGREB, March 19, 2018 - Health Minister Milan Kujundžić said on Monday that the Istanbul Convention on the prevention of violence against women contained a small problematic issue in connection with gender ideology, however, this was not crucial given that the document was primarily focused on the protection of women and prevention of domestic violence.

Conflicts within HDZ about Istanbul Convention Ratification Continue

ZAGREB, March 19, 2018 - Commenting on a call by some members of the HDZ party on the party leadership not to ratify the Istanbul Convention, HDZ secretary-general and Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković said that public and intra-party discussions on the matter had to be based on arguments, underlining that large and election-winning HDZ branches, such as those in Osijek-Baranja, Dubrovnik-Neretva and Split-Dalmatia counties, supported HDZ leader and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković's policy.

No Referendum on Istanbul Convention

ZAGREB, March 17, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Saturday there was no need for a referendum on the Istanbul Convention within his Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, stressing that the main purpose of the convention was to protect women against violence and domestic violence.

Former Prime Minister Bankrupts with 130 Million Kuna in Debt

ZAGREB, March 15, 2018 - The Commercial Court in Zagreb on Thursday ordered a foreclosure of real estate of the bankrupt Niva d.d. company owned by former prime minister Nikica Valentić, which owes creditors more than 130 million kuna, while the conditions and the way of auction sale will set at a later date.

Ruling Coalition MP Indicted for Bribery of Journalist

ZAGREB, March 10, 2018 -  The Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) on Friday issued an indictment against Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) lawmaker Franjo Lučić for offering a bribe to freelance reporter Drago Hedl  in a bid to persuade the reporter to stop writing about his companies.

Ruling Coalition Leaders Meet with Prime Minister

ZAGREB, March 6, 2018 - Representatives of the parties comprising the ruling majority said on Monday, after their regular meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, which lasted more than four hours, that they discussed current issues and that new Agrokor emergency administrator Fabris Peruško briefed them about the situation at the heavily-indebted food conglomerate, stressing that there was no mention of the opposition’s initiative for a non-confidence vote in Economy Minister Martina Dalić.

Mixed Financial Fortunes for Political Parties

ZAGREB, March 4, 2018 - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) posted a surplus of a little more than 6.5 million kuna in 2017, according to a financial statement for this ruling political party. Revenue in 2017 amounted to 50.5 million kuna, while expenditure amounted to 44 million kuna, resulting in a surplus of 6.5 million kuna, the HDZ said in a press release.
