Expensive Medicine Spinraza to Become Available Next Week

ZAGREB, April 15, 2018 - Spinraza, a drug used in treating spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), will be put on the list of medicines provided by the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) next week while clinical trials with this new medicine will begin in Zagreb's KBC Hospital on April 17 and will include 23 SMA patients, Health Minister Milan Kujundžić announced.

Number of Medicine Trials to Increase

ZAGREB, April 3, 2018 - The Health Ministry will change the rules for clinical testing of medicines in Croatia to speed up approval and contracting procedures, increase the number of clinical trials in healthcare institutions and improve access to innovative therapies for patients.

Healthcare System Burdened by Problems

ZAGREB, March 26, 2018 - The Croatian health system is stable and good but it is struggling with numerous problems, Health Minister Milan Kujundžić said at the conference "The future of Croatia's health system" in Zagreb on Monday, announcing that a new law on healthcare and compulsory health insurance, to be adopted this year, were expected to help deal with those problems.

ZAGREB, March 11, 2018 - Associations representing the parents of children suffering from serious diseases have told the prime minister that the only systematic solution for innovative treatments is a fund which will be financed by the state budget and not by donations, which is the only offer they have received 100 days after the prime minister promised them a solution for the treatment of their children.

Health Minister Under Fire for Allegedly Trying to Influence Courts

ZAGREB, January 29, 2018 - The Croatian Chamber of Physicians (HLK) and the Croatian Association of Hospital Physicians (HUBOL) on Monday reacted after Health Minister Milan Kujundžić sent Justice Minister Dražen Bošnjaković a letter asking that court practice be uniformed in cases where physicians are suing for unpaid overtime and that instead of trying to influence the courts, he should be securing funds to settle dues to physicians so that they do not have to go to court.
