September the 19th, 2021 - The Pag cadastral land survey is set to begin as part of a large island project which will be divided into two separate phases, which will last for years to come.

As Morski writes, the Council of the City of Pag has given its consent for the conclusion of the Agreement of the City of Pag with the State Geodetic Administration. It was said at the session that the Pag cadastral land survey is an extremely important project for Pag and it will be worked on for a longer period of time.

''This will be the beginning of the realisation of the large and long-awaited land cadastral survey project covering the entire City of Pag, from Misković to Simun,'' the Mayor of the City of Pag, Ante Fabijanic, told the local Radio Pag.

''This is a large project that is going to be divided into two phases. In the first phase, which will last for about two years, a cadastral survey of Pag's construction areas will be done, and in the second phase, which will last for about seven years, a cadastral survey of Pag's agricultural land will be done. This project is important for the inhabitants of all settlements in the City of Pag, because their land will be cadastrally regulated, but it is also important because the survey will determine the boundaries of maritime domain, the coastal zone and it will also determine the boundaries of unclassified roads,''

In order to initiate the Pag cadastral land survey, the City Council should also make a decision on amending the budget. The value of the first phase of cadastral survey is 11 million kuna. Of this amount, 60 percent will be provided from the state budget, and 40 percent will be provided by the City of Pag, meaning that the City of Pag will be an intermediary in concluding contracts with landowners. Mayor Fabijanic added that, in accordance with the law, citizens will be invited to participate in the proceedings.

According to the Law on State Surveys and Real Estate Cadastre, and according to the Ordinance on Cadastral Survey, cadastral surveys are the collection and processing of all of the necessary data for the purpose of establishing cadastral parcels, registering buildings, and recording special legal regimes on land and the use of it.

Cadastral surveying is an extremely important procedure for every owner/possessor of any land or buildings and everyone should, primarily for the protection of their rights, participate in the procedure. The aim of the Pag cadastral land survey is to put the land parcels in proper order and to clearly determine the boundaries between the land parcels. The participation of the island's landowners in the survey procedure is important, because the cadastral survey will confirm the existing right to the land.

The owners of land and buildings can only protect their rights to that land by engaging in these proceedings. Participation in the Pag cadastral land survey procedure primarily means the regular monitoring of public announcements related to this procedure, marking out the boundaries of your property, checking the cadastral study and, if necessary, filing objections in a timely manner.

Special attention is needed in the process of presenting the study. In that part of the procedure, the holder of the right of possession must confirm that the data has been presented to them and sign a statement confirming that they agree with the data presented in the census sheet and with the excerpt from the cadastral plan, with the coordinates of the cadastral parcel included.

The presented census sheet from the cadastral plan should, in this case, be inspected extremely carefully, and if necessary, the advice of certified surveyors can be sought. No part of the cadastral survey procedure should be neglected.

August 8, 2021 - Zrće COVID-19 testing is producing better results than expected. Out of almost 2,000 daily tests, only 2-3 return positive. 

The party island of Pag, and especially Zrće, remembers better days. Although up to five thousand people are there at night, it cannot be compared to 2019, when up to 13 thousand young people danced until the early morning hours. But tourism officials say the season is still better than last year. There are 4 testing points on the beach. More than 90 percent of the guests are foreigners, reports HRT.

Marsha came from Germany and broke her foot on the first day of her vacation in Novalja. She was so drunk that she didn't even notice, she told HRT. She added that ‘it doesn’t matter, mainly that she is negative for coronavirus.’

And to enter the beach after 9 pm, a negative test result or a Covid confirmation is required, along with the obligatory identification, so that there is no cheating. And then it all needs to be shown again in front of the club.

"We test an average of about 1,500 to 2,000 people a day at all points on the beach. On average, two to three of them are positive per day. One day there were eight of them," said Darko Božićev, a representative of the beach concessionaire.

They are being tested, among others, by Hilmo Demirović - a young medic who likes what he does on Zrće, even though he is there until 4 am. In case of a positive result, he explained, that person is automatically isolated through the passage, sent home, and is contacted by the epidemiologist immediately.

Then, if there is a possibility of repatriation or own transport - that person immediately returns to their place of residence, said Ivan Peranić, Chief of the Novalja Civil Protection Headquarters. 

Hassan from Germany and Alexander from France hope that they won't suffer that fate. They were vaccinated and said they had to come to Zrće. Alexander's mother was born in Split.

"Unfortunately, there is a lot of resistance in our country for vaccination - especially among young people. Unlike these young guests who are vaccinated in 90 percent of cases. That is fantastic," said Šime Oštarić, director of the Zrće beach concessionaire.

When it comes to the number of guests, the situation on Zrće is better than last year. But they are hoping for even bigger numbers soon.

July 31, 2021 - The Austrian Embassy in Zagreb has claimed that 250 positive COVID-19 cases in Austria are connected to the Austria Goes Zrće event in Novalja. 

"According to the information provided to the Embassy by the Austrian authorities, the festival "Austria goes Zrće" held in Novalja is likely the cause of the spread of coronavirus infection among the participants in that event. As of today, 250 festival visitors have tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to Austria."

This is the answer from the Austrian Embassy in Zagreb to Novi List's question about how the Austrian media pointed out that in Croatia, at the festival in Novalja from 17 to 24 July, as many as 94 Austrians became infected with the coronavirus.

This caused a great deal of shock, and the competent services in Novalja reacted immediately to refute everything. According to their medically-based data, not a single Austrian left Novalja infected. Moreover, in Novalja, there are secured accommodation facilities in which all infected, if they wish, can spend an epidemiologically defined period before returning to their countries healthy.

The Austrian embassy wisely emphasizes the category of "probable," which, of course, gives the story a different light. Therefore, there is no definite claim because in Novalja, as in all other Croatian tourist centers, rigorous measures of testing and protection of tourists are implemented. After all, stringent police measures are in place to control the implementation of prominent epidemiological measures.

Given the seriousness of the situation and the severity of the claim, inquiries about the implementation of measures to clarify the situation were sent from Novi List to the Croatian Embassy in Austria, which in turn redirected them to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Still, neither they nor the Ministry of Interior responded to Novi List. 

More than 19,000 people came to the festival from Austria, most of them in their own cars or buses, according to Austrian media.

Judging by the statement of the Austrian embassy, ​​they diplomatically distanced themselves from the categorical claims of the Austrian media, claiming that the festival was a 'probable cause'.

The Novalja Civil Protection Headquarters and the local Tourist Board on Thursday refuted the articles according to which the "Austria goes Zrce" Festival was a breeding ground for at least 94 Austrians suffering from Covid-19. They pointed out then that there were 12 coronavirus positives in their quarantine and that there were no Austrians among them.

The head of the Novalja headquarters, Ivan Peranić, sharply denied the reports that there were 19,000 Austrian tourists at the festival and that there was a mass infection among them. He pointed out that in a week, from July 17 to 24, 12,151 tests were performed. Some people, he added, have been tested several times. 16 coronavirus positives were detected, but none of them were from Austria.

June 9, 2021 - The popular Pag Island music festival Sonus has been postponed until next summer due to the restrictions and uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sonus organizers released a statement about the news on Tuesday: 

"Because of the global ongoing uncertainty around the Coronavirus pandemic, it is with a heavy heart that we cancel Sonus Festival 2021. Given all the limitations and restrictions we expected to encounter, we do not believe that we could have presented an experience worthy of what Sonus stands for. Safety comes first, and so we have made the tough decision to postpone to the week from August 21st - August 25th, 2022. 

When the time finally comes, you can expect a typically world-class Sonus line-up - a high calibre selection of the house and techno talents who have helped make Sonus one of Europe's most essential summer festivals."

Says Sonus's Robin Ebinger, "This is a hugely difficult decision, but it is in everyone's best interests, and we are optimistic that soon we will all have the Pag Island sand between our toes again. June the 5th, 2021 - When it comes to what Croatia has to offer, most people will likely immediately think of the sun, the glorious Adriatic sea, the many islands and the wine. Croatin gastronomy is certainly up there on that same list, and Croatian cheeses are becoming more and more well known internationally. Two Croatian cheeses are doing so well, in fact, that they've been ranked among the planet's very best.

Pag cheese is probably the first of the Croatian cheeses to spring to the mind of the majotiy of people remotely familiar with the country's production of this much loved food item.

The bizarre moonlike northern Adriatic island of Pag, the northern part of which belongs to Lika-Senj County and the central and southern part to Zadar County, is home to some of the most mouthwatering Croatian cheese for those who aren't lactose intolerant, of course. This island produces cheese which is then exported and taken all over the world to be enjoyed by cheese lovers, and it has firmly placed the entire country on the cheese map of the globe.

The World Food Atlas from Taste Atlas has picked up on the treasure trove which is Croatian gastronomy, more precisely on Croatian cheeses, and has declared two domestic products to be among the best the world has to offer.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, The World Food Atlas is a well-known website which is a must-browse for all food lovers or ''foodies'', and now they have published a revised ranking with the world's best cheeses.

On the list of the top 100 best rated cheeses according to the votes of the audience, there are as many as two Croatian cheeses. Skripavac took a more than respectable 61st place, and the famous, aforementioned Pag cheese has taken an extremely impressive 14th place.

May 15, 2021 - A German film crew visited Novalja last week to shoot a promotional film called ‘‘My Novalja on the Island of Pag’’, and will premiere in mid-June 2021.

The Tourist Board of the City of Novalja, in cooperation with the company Pointers Travel d.o.o. and in co-production with the German production company Blue Planet TV from Berlin, agreed to collaborate on a 22-minute report on the tourist destination Novalja called Meine Novalja Auf Dem Inseln Pag (My Novalja on the Island of Pag)

As turistickeprice.hr reports, from 6 to 13 May 2021, the German film crew visited the city of Novalja and shot a promotional film that will be shown from mid-June 2021 through a minimum of 30 broadcasts on numerous TV stations throughout the Western European market. Five people from Blue planet TV production and two people from the Osijek company Pointers Travel d.o.o., video and TV production department, took part in the production of this format, and they are also actively involved in the organization of production.

The host of the travel promotional film with the working title "My Novalja on the Island of Pag" is the famous German actor Oliver Hörner, who will guide viewers through a report on Novalja and all its peculiarities.

The report will be shown and promoted through numerous channels, which will achieve multi-million viewers, namely: broadcasting on ANIXE auf Reisen (one of the most popular German travel channels), NTV, RNF (Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar, Mannheim). Also, the report will be distributed via the Waipu TV platform, as well as Amazon Prime and Samsung TV Plus channels.

‘‘Our expectations are that with this project and the recorded report, Novalja will certainly become an even more important destination, which in this way will directly access the German-speaking market and beyond and show all its attractions that make it special and set it apart from other tourist destinations’’, said the Director of the Tourist Board of Novalja, Marina Šćiran Rizner.

The filming started in Novalja: on its squares, in the churches of St. Catherine and Our Lady of the Rosary within which there is a floor mosaic from the 4th century, in the City Museum from which one enters the unique Ancient aqueduct from the 1st century, on the Rose of the Winds, the city beaches. Furthermore, it was filmed in the Straško camp, the Liberty, Olea and Boškinac hotels, Novaljsko polje, Stara Novalja, the Žigljen ferry port, the Pag bridge and numerous beaches in the City area.

Through the magical Gardens of Lun Olives, where the famous actor was greeted by a girl in traditional costume with a basket of local delicacies, he rode a horse to the oldest olive, tasted raspberry oil, and drank tea from Lun olive leaves.

In the early morning hours, when the team was hosted by extremely kind hosts - the owners of the family farm VIDAS, Mr. Oliver taught the sheep how to make Pag cheese, and for breakfast, homemade delicacies were served, such as Pag curd. At the host family farm Škunca, the team enjoyed the immortelle fields, listening with great interest to the story of organic production and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants.

‘‘This is my first time on your island and I am really amazed by its landscapes and places. I can't help but get the impression that adventures like cycling, trekking, kayaking are waiting for you around every corner. I am also delighted with your cultural and historical sites. I will definitely be back to your beautiful island again’’, Oliver Hörner pointed out with enthusiasm.

March the 29th, 2021 - When it comes to differences between the Croatian mainland and its many inhabited islands, one could write a book. From unreliable ferry connections disappointing island residents to a lack of proper infrastructure, the list is long. However, the Novalja business incubator, the very first one on a Croatian island, is now open, marking a significant shift when it comes to island life.

Novalja has always been known for tourism and strong bura winds. In pre-pandemic times, Pag as an island was visited by countless tourists on an annual basis. Lovers of partying and of this island's strange moonlike landscape have come to know this island well, but just like with the majority of other Croatian islands, stoking business hasn't really been a strong point unless it involves revenue from bars and beaches. That could all be about to alter.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Pag could be pushed up yet another level, and one which doesn't necessarily have to involve tourism, with the opening of the brand new Novalja business incubator, the first of its kind on an island in this country, reports Zimo.

The director of the new Novalja business incubator, Dinko Skunca, referred back to Pag's famous bura winds and stated that of all winds the island experiences throughout the year, this, the wind of strength, will certainly be the most significant yet.

With the opening of the Novalja business incubator, one of Novalja's doggedly determined entrepreneurs also got a spring put back in her step.

''Miracles will happen here,'' said entrepreneur Nikolina Persola Dabo, adding that her tracksuits for both girls and boys with the Pag ''signature'' on them might not have ever even seen the light of day if the incubator hadn't opened on Pag.

''For the first six months, I don't have to pay anything - which is wonderful, I'll be able to invest that money into buying other business items and raw materials,'' she stated.

March 25, 2021 - A new excellent project with all tourist boards on the island of Pag is here. Pag on the menu, the new remarkable tourist story of Pag with a certain standard.

"Pag on the menu" aims to brand the local and regional, and gastronomic offer of the island of Pag. This Friday, the first labels of the exceptional standard of Pag island's traditional cuisine will be awarded, which will guarantee tourists and guests the originality and quality of the gastronomic offer.

Bartul Kašić High School Pag, in cooperation with the Tourist Boards of Pag, Novalja, Kolan, Povljana, Association of Craftsmen Pag, and Association of Craftsmen Novalja, on Friday, March 26, 2021, at 11 am, in the Rector's Palace in Pag will ceremoniously award certificates of an exceptional standard "Pag on the menu" (traditional cuisine of the island of Pag). The first certificates will be awarded to seven caterers from the island of Pag who have met the public invitation requirements.

Such projects raise awareness of the importance of indigenous cuisine and help us remember our traditional recipes that need to be passed on to new generations. Local food, local recipes, tradition, and heritage, are the basis for the development of tourism, and the gastronomic offer based on original recipes is an absolute hit in every way. 

It is excellent when schools enter into such projects, which indirectly changes the local population's consciousness and promotes the importance of traditional cuisine in gastronomic tourism development. Through projects like this and similar, the local people, including young people, will gain more interest. Students learn about tradition and culture and ways to incorporate it into a new time and valorize it. The importance of such projects has been recognized by the Tourist Boards of the island of Pag. 

Bringing back the somewhat neglected old island dishes from ancient times, made by its people's skilled hands, Bartul Kašić High School students from Pag diligently collected recipes and advice from heritage keepers family members, and acquaintances. Afterward, the dishes were prepared in the school catering practicum and presented to the public once a year at a tasting event. Since 2014, most of the collected dishes can be found in the recipe book "Ca, ča, što se nekad kuhalo na mom otoku."

The application for the Program "Occupation Promotion - Promotion and Strengthening of Competence of Vocational Occupations for Tourism" soon followed. Bartul Kašić High School in Pag receives HRK 48,746.25 in support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

"The project aims to establish a unique standard for restaurants, family farms, small hotels, rooms, and similar facilities on the island of Pag, which offer local food and beverages. By creating and implementing an exceptional standard of autochthonous island gastronomy, we would improve and better position the tourist offer of the island of Pag through the expansion of the gastronomic offer and preserve it from oblivion. Spreading knowledge about local cuisine encourages its use in local restaurants and tourists. The authenticity of the destination experience and the recipe book serve as a reminder of the smells and tastes of the island of Pag," emphasizes the director of Bartula Kašić High School Pag Marija Pećirko.

As HRTurizam has learned from the director of the Novalja Tourist Board, Marina Šćiran Rizner, the wish is to continue a step further in this direction and, in addition to certification, through such projects to develop the island brand, and funds will be found in the new European budget.

"Tourist communities with partners in this project and with their knowledge and support tend to brand the local and regional gastronomic scene. After the first phase of awarding certificates, they are preparing to expand the project to weekend programs and special events. It is also important to set the concept for long-term sustainability and apply for the upcoming operational programs for EU funds," stressed Šćiran Rizner.

March 5, 2021 - Terra Park Phalaris and Terra Park SpiritoS are two new mobile home camps that will open soon near Novalja on the island of Pag.

Jutarnji List reports that luxury hotels in nature are one way to describe mobile homes, an increasingly popular tourist trend in Croatia and the world. This is a market that McKinsey & Company estimates will be worth $157 billion by 2023, mostly thanks to the new concept and design.

Namely, twenty years ago, mobile homes were most associated with small, not very well-equipped apartments without bathrooms, which were slightly better than campers. However, thanks to the development of technology and the general popularization of glamping, today they have reached the level of luxury with which they match top apartments and hotel rooms, offering closer contact with nature and a much more pronounced sense of privacy than classic forms of accommodation.

That this is a trend that will greatly affect the Adriatic's tourist image in the future is shown by Terra Park Phalaris and Terra Park SpiritoS, new mobile home camps near Novalja on the island of Pag. These projects will open their doors to guests this season, after four years of preparation, confirmed Zvonimir Tudorović, a member of the Terra Park d.o.o. Management Board.

"In preparation for the 2021 season, the camp will additionally adapt to new trends in the modern tourist market by investing in the development of new forms of accommodation units and upgrading common facilities for guests. Our concept is to combine the indigenous natural environment with the requirements of the modern guest and connect it all into a unique holiday experience in this location," said Tudorović.

The Terra Park Phalaris camp is adorned with a long tradition of campers, but this year part of the plots will be reserved for 67 mobile homes of different sizes and equipment levels produced by Adria. These will be one of the largest and best-equipped homes currently available on the market. Namely, these mobile home plots have an average area of about 200 square meters, of which 30 percent have their own heated pools, and it is almost twice the standard prescribed by the tourist authorities for the camping industry. All homes are, at the same time, set level with the ground, and the spacious terraces are paved with natural stone and covered with bio-climate pergolas.

Similar standards will be applied in another facility within Terra Park d.o.o, the Terra Park SpiritoS camp.

In addition to the spaciousness, the greatest emphasis in the camps will be on sustainable development and symbiosis with nature. There will be no asphalted surfaces in the complexes, and a large bio-purifier will be installed, which will, among other things, be used to irrigate indigenous horticulture. 

"We are especially proud of the materials to decorate terraces, trails, signs, and other elements in the camps for which naturally degradable materials were used. Disposable plastic or other types of artificial materials will not be used. Also, the use of organic cosmetics in mobile homes should be highlighted, as well as the great emphasis we place on cooperation with the local community, such as the 80/80 concept, which means that 80 percent of groceries consumed during camp holidays are within a radius of 80 kilometers," Tudorović points out.

Terra Park Phalaris allows you to buy and rent mobile homes, offered at 59,900, 76,000, and 95,500 euros, depending on the size and level of equipment. It is important to emphasize that homeowners can rent their homes with Terra Park's help, which provides real estate management services for them. The concept is quite simple - the owner uses the home for their own needs whenever they want, and the rest of the time, Terra Park increases the value of the home by placing it on the tourist market. According to Terra Park, the expected return on investment is 5 to 7.5 years.

"The profitability of such an investment is long-term, no instant return can be expected, but we believe that, after the return on investment, repaid houses will remain available to owners for at least half of the total life of the house," explains Tudorović and adds that in the pre-sale process they sold more than 30 percent of the homes, before their installation in the camp.

In addition to modern design, return on investment, and connection with nature, several other factors contribute to the popularity of mobile homes. The first is related to the current pandemic situation. Namely, Tudorović believes that a significant part of the current hotel guests will reorient themselves to stay in mobile homes. The main reasons, he says, are to avoid mass contact with other guests in common indoor spaces, especially at the reception and in the hotel restaurant. On the other hand, there are demographic trends in the main markets. Due to the aging population, guests from the camps are increasingly focused on staying in the homes because they have all the comforts of home and do not have to drive with their own campers to the destination. On the other hand, the diverse offer of mobile homes (especially those with their own pool) has brought back young families with children to camps. One example is the Tomići family, who bought a mobile home in Terra Park Phalaris.

"As a child, I almost always stayed with my parents in campers. It was a great time with lots of families and kids, but in controlled conditions with no roads and no traffic. I continued to maintain that tradition later, but in 2012 we had twins and went to a mobile home on Pag for the first time. It was a great choice because we had a lot more intimacy than in an apartment. If we had been in the apartment, someone might have been bothered by the children crying, but we had our peace in our small home," Marin Tomić remembers.

For the next eight years after that, they spent their summers only in mobile homes, always in a different location. Namely, due to the nature of their work, they did not know when they would go on annual leave, so they would go at the last minute and asked for free reservations in the camps. That is why they started looking for a camp where they could buy their own mobile home, but they could not find a camp without flaws. Either it was too big, didn’t have clean papers, or wasn’t accessible to children. As this is a large investment, they wanted to make sure that the purchase would pay off. They came across Terra Park last summer.

"My wife and I made sure to check each step a few times so that our investment didn't fail. Twice we were one step closer to concluding the deal, but then a problem would arise that would cause us to give up the purchase. But then we found Terra Park, and it turned out to be a firm with a head and a tail. In just a few words, we concluded that they know how to handle their business, so we decided to buy a mobile home from them," says Tomić and points out that now he and his family will be able to sit in the car carefree on Friday after work and go to their mobile home for the weekend.
