April 14, 2022 - Vlado Šestan, a professional traveler, tourism journalist, and influencer who is on the road for about 200 days a year and has been for decades, chose the Sinj region as his next destination!

Vlado Šestan with his associates Inana Garossi and Dubravka Prpić Znaor came to Sinj on Friday, April 9. During that time until Sunday, April 10, they visited many of the town's sights, tried outdoor activities, and tasted local gastronomy during the pre-season, in order to bring domestic tourists closer to the Sinj tourist offer.

The goal of the journalist trip is to promote and position the city of Sinj as a year-round destination that offers tourists the experience of discovering exceptional natural and cultural heritage in the Mediterranean environment.

In order to get a better insight into the offer of Sinj, they visited our Shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, Sinjska Alka Museum, Cetina Region Museum, Franciscan Monastery Collections, Kamičak Fortress, PD Svilaja, Rumin Protected Landscape, Cetina River and the 17th Sinj Prosciutto Fair.

March 30, 2022 - To celebrate World Water Day on March 22, the Sinj Tourist Board, in cooperation with NOPD Koćari and with the support of the City of Sinj organizes a Sutina area cleanup this Saturday, April 2. 

About the significant Sutina landscape:

The significant landscape of Sutina was protected in 2000 on an area of ​​426.80 ha and includes the upper canyon part of the Sutina stream, a tributary of the Cetina. The canyon of the Sutina mountain stream, with its unusual arrangement of vegetation, is a typical example of botanical inversion. From the lowest point of the canyon towards the peaks of the surrounding hills grows beech (Fagus sylvatica), black hornbeam (Ostrya carpinifolia), white hornbeam (Carpinus orientalis), and oak (Quercus virgiliana), while on rocky meadows there is immortelle (Helicrysum italicum), sage (Salvia officinalis), Satureja Montana, oregano (Origanum), and thyme. Their nectar-seeking flowers are adorned by butterflies such as the swallowtail (Papilio machaon), white hawthorn (Aporia crataegi), and members of the families Pieridae, brush-footed butterflies (Nymphalidae), satyrs (Satyridae) and gossamer-winged butterflies (Lycaenidae).

Diverse vegetation, shrubs, hollows, and rocks allow many species of birds to nest. A mountain shepherd (Motacilla cinerea) nests on the cliffs of the canyon. The dense forests of the canyon are the habitat of the black beetle (Dryocopus martius). On the rocky plateaus of the protected belt in the grass, the crow bends its nest, as well as the partridge. Shrews and hawks nest on tall pine trees. At the exit from the canyon, where the erosive effects are strong and sandy slopes have formed, there are beehive canals in which this species raises its young.

In the dense forests of Sutina, with its karst, maquis, and rocky meadows, mammals such as wild boar, which is a permanent resident of these areas, as well as foxes, rabbits, white martens and badgers find food and breeding grounds. In the waters of Sutina, there are amphibians such as the yellow tortoise, the great green frog, and the spotted salamander. Shallow ponds that remain in the hollows of the canyon during the dry season enable the survival of trout and crabs. Of the snakes that inhabit this area, only the viper is dangerous to humans, and the wall lizard is the most common lizard.

According to the geomorphological composition, the Sutina canyon is built of limestone and dolomite, and the erosive action reveals many fossils to visitors. The Sutina stream is a torrent stream that is poor in water for most of the year. Its main source is located at the foot of the hamlets of Mijići and Jurići in the village of Sutina. However, the Sutina stream also receives water from other sources, among which the source of Bila vrila certainly stands out.

Next to this spring, there is an old mill, which is proof that the power of the Sutina stream has been used for ages.

The significant landscape of Sutina is managed, in accordance with the Law on Nature Protection, by the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Values in Split-Dalmatia County.

The Sinj Tourist Board invites all those interested to join the action to raise awareness of the impact of man on the environment and awareness of the importance of its preservation.

January 16, 2022 - A free tour of Sinj was organized on Saturday, January 15, as part of the 'Get to Know Your Country' project by the Croatian Tourist Guides Association.

On Saturday, January 15, as part of the 'Get to Know Your Country' project organized by the Croatian Tourist Guides Association, and on the International Recognition Day of the Republic of Croatia, the Sinj Tourist Board organized a free tour of Sinj, in cooperation with the Sinj Tourist Guides Association "Osinium," the Sinjska Alka Museum, the Cetina Region Museum, and the Sikirica Gallery.

On this occasion, many interested citizens of Sinj and the Cetina region, as well as visitors from Kaštela, Klis, Knin, Split, and Solin, visited the Cetina Region Museum where they explored the permanent exhibition "Statue of the Bible - the body of language from all continents" by Siniša Vuković, Sikirica Gallery and the exhibition of photographs "Angels" by Ivo Pervan, and the famous Sinjska Alka Museum, all with the expert guidance of Ivan Vuleta, tourist guide and Danijela Banović Petričević, curator of the Cetina Region Museum.

They helped participants learn more about the knightly city of Sinj, prominent people who influenced its development, numerous public sculptures, the Franciscan Classical Gymnasium - the first gymnasium in southern Croatia with Croatian as the language of instruction, Grad Fortress, the Church of Our Lady of Sinj - the largest southern Croatian Marian shrine, which includes the Image of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, the votive church at the Grad Fortress, the miraculous defense of the city of Sinj in 1715 and the significance of the Sinj Alka, a knight's game under UNESCO protection.

All participants received a 2022 calendar to remember the day from local and world-famous designer Boris Ljubičić.

December 28, 2021 - Sinj will say goodbye to 2021 in style with an exciting all-day program announced by the Sinj Tourist Board. 

After the children's New Year's Eve event held at 2 pm on Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square, the enticing aromas of the most delicious Sinj cuisine - Sinj arambaši - will spread through the air. This holiday specialty is rightly on the list of the Ministry of Culture and Media as an intangible asset of the Republic of Croatia. Arambaši will be distributed for free for Sinj citizens and their guests, which will satisfy their palates until the evening hours and an unforgettable New Year's Eve program.

A favorite group of all generations, Crvena Jabuka, accompanied by Sinj local group Ljuta Kuća, will help the town say goodbye to 2021 and introduce 2022!

The program will be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the Civil Protection Headquarters and the applicable measures of the CNIPH.

December 16, 2021 - As part of the ‘2021 Sinj Advent’ event, the Cetina Region Museum and the Sinj Tourist Board invites you to enjoy the Sinj Christmas fairy tale Liskan on a Christmas Adventure.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, December 16, starting at 6:30 pm at the Cetina Region Museum in Sinj.

With the address of the authors, curator of the Cetina Region Museum in Sinj, Daria Domazet and Anđela Vrca, and fairy tale illustrator Petar Radović, the fairy tale will be presented by Croatian poet, essayist, linguist, and literary critic Siniša Vuković.

All visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the fairy tale interpreted by Croatian National Theater Split actress from Sinj, Katarina Romac.

The children's choir Glasnici Mira from Brnaz will enrich the program by performing.

The program will be held in accordance with all epidemiological measures.

October 26, 2021 - Traditional Potravlje pottery was again in the spotlight in Sinj thanks to an educational workshop led by Ivan Knezović.

On Friday, October 21, 2021, the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the Museum of Cetina Krajina - Sinj, and the City of Sinj, organized two educational workshops for children and adults about traditional hand wheel pottery from Potravlje.

After last year's break, and due to increased interest, for the sixth time, several workshops were organized. As in previous years, the workshop for children was held in cooperation with the kindergarten "Bili Cvitak" and Mrs. Ana Glavinović, who assisted Ivan Knezović in making objects from clay. At the end of the workshop, the proud little participants took their handicrafts with them to decorate the premises of the kindergarten. This year, the students of the 4th grade of the Technical and Industrial School of Ruđer Bošković, who participated in the school project Research of Cultural Heritage under the mentorship of Professor Branimir Romac, also joined the workshops.

Ivan Knezović, who regularly leads these educational workshops, is also among the last to engage in this traditional craft. Traditional hand pottery from Potravlje has had the status of an intangible cultural property since 2013. Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia nominated it for the protection of UNESCO.

It is imperative to preserve this segment of traditional culture and continue living by passing it on to younger generations. With this goal in mind, the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, holds workshops on Traditional hand pottery from Potravlje. Due to the large number of participants who wanted to try to make valuable objects and successfully implement all epidemiological measures, the workshops were held from 16:00 to 20:30.

In the introductory part, Danijela Petričević Banović, curator of the Museum of the Cetina Region in Sinj, gave an interesting and instructive lecture on traditional pottery. This was followed by a presentation and guidance of Ivan Knezović through the stages of preparation and processing of clay to the final pottery. Anyone who expressed a desire and interest could participate in making pottery under his expert guidance. Workshop participants received unique souvenirs personally made by the leader, Ivan Knezović, and the youngest participants received small gifts and gingerbread as souvenirs.

In addition to these workshops, in the musical part of the evening, members of the Association for the Preservation of Heritage of the Cetina Region and KUD Dicmo performed traditional melodies of ojkavica: male and female rera, which is also on the list of intangible heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.

October 22, 2022 - The Sinj Tourist Board is the Plautilla international cultural tourism award winner!

This is an award for a cultural tourism product characterized by quality and creative interpretation of cultural and historical heritage. In this case, the plaque was awarded to Sinj in the Best Cultural Tourism Product for the "1715 Battle of Sinj" play.

The Sinj Tourist Board was awarded for the best cultural tourism product as part of the 7th International Congress of Historic Cities, organized by the Solin Tourist Board, Hotel President Solin, and the City of Solin, held from October 19 to 22, 2021, at the Hotel President in Solin, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Media, Ministry of Tourism and Sport, Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, Split-Dalmatia County, Croatian Association of Historic Towns, Public Institutions of Culture Zvonimir, Split Tourist Board, Split City Museum, Split Archaeological Museum and Klis Municipality.

Under the motto "Meet, share and build," this congress aims at critical stakeholders in managing historic cities, from local governments, tourist boards, and representatives of cultural institutions to travel agencies and educational institutions. The congress program consists of lectures and panel discussions, emphasizing meetings, exchanging experiences, and developing new tourist products in the historic cities of Croatia and abroad. Therefore, the Sinj Tourist Board is honored because, among many institutions and other candidates, the "1715 Battle of Sinj" play won in the Best Cultural Tourism Product category.

It should be noted that the Sinj Tourist Board has already won the bronze plaque for the Best Cultural Tourism Product for their traditional Potravlje handmade pottery workshop.

"We thank our colleagues from Solin as well as the organizing committee that recognized and rewarded our work. Finally, we thank everyone who contributed to the continuity of the 1715 Battle of Sinj play, and we dedicate the award to our defenders, to whom the play is inspired and dedicated," said the Sinj Tourist Board.

The award was accepted at the ceremony by Miro Bulj, President of the Sinj Tourist Board.

August 23, 2021 - On Saturday, August 21, as part of the Kamičak Fortress Music Evenings organized by the Sinj Tourist Board and with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, the City of Sinj, and the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, a concert evening was held with the Papandopulo Quartet and Sara & Jappa. 

In the evening, in the unique ambiance of the Kamičak Fortress, visitors could witness a musical spectacle under the starry night sky and virtuoso performances of top musicians: four Croatian saxophonists - Nikola Fabijanić, soprano saxophone, Gordan Tudor, alto saxophone, Goran Jurković, tenor saxophone, and Tomislav Žužak, baritone saxophone in the Papandopulo Quartet, and acoustic duo Sara & Jappa featuring Sara Brodarić on vocals, and Željko Brodarić Jappa on guitar and vocals. 

For several years now, the Sinj Tourist Board has organized successful and extremely well-attended concerts of classical, but also traditional and jazz music. This year, due to the pandemic, everything took place in an adapted form, in compliance with the recommendations and measures of the Civil Protection Headquarters and the NZJZ.

As part of the Music Evenings at Kamičak Fortress, concerts have been held so far by Academic Accordion Orchestra "Ivan Goran Kovačić," Sara Renar, Jazz swing quintet "Repassage," Wind Quintet "Kalamos," the unique Samobor percussion ensemble "Sudar Percussion," ethno musician Dunja Knebl with the band Kololira and ethno, Nocturnal4 and Ratko Zjača, ZZ Quartet, Trio EX PONTO, and TRIO VENTUS.

Everyone in Sinj enjoyed this year's performance of the fantastic Papandopulo Quartet and the renowned duo Sara & Jappa. Papandopulo Quartet concerts are regularly accompanied by the approval of the audience and the praise of critics, and such an atmosphere was not absent in Sinj either. It should be noted that the Quartet attaches special importance to the promotion of contemporary music by Croatian and foreign authors and cooperation with many prominent musicians, ensembles, and orchestras.

The father-daughter jazz duo Sara & Jappa, consisting of Željko Brodarić Jappa and Sara Brodarić performed top vocal and guitar interpretations of jazz classics from celebrated in Broadway and Hollywood musicals, which were popularized by Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and other legendary performers.

The concert took place with all recommended measures of the Civil Protection Headquarters and the NZJZ.

August 16, 2021 - The 1715 Battle of Sinj reenactment was successfully held in the center of Sinj!

In memory of the glorious defense of Sinj from the Ottoman invasion, the 1715 Battle of Sinj and the events that preceded it were staged this year as well. The Sinj Tourist Board organized the play with the support of the City of Sinj and Split-Dalmatia County and in cooperation with the Shrine of Our Miraculous Lady of Sinj, the Alkar Knights Society, and KU Marko Marulić.

The plot of the play took place in two acts. The first act began at the Market Square, King Tomislav Square, where the Ottoman conquest of the town of Sinj, the burning of the church, and the enslavement of the regiment were staged. A handful of defenders with the image of the Mother of God took refuge in the Sinj Fortress, the easy conquest of which was announced by the arrogant Mustafa-pasha Celic, who triumphantly passed in a carriage with his entourage. This year, the play was enriched by the performance of the Brodosplit City Choir under the direction of maestro Vlado Sunko and excellent lighting and sound effects.

In the second act, which took place this year in the original ambiance of Alkarski dvori, the Defense Council decided to defend its city despite a more numerous and superior enemy. With the help of Our Lady, the Ottomans were eventually defeated, and the threat of the enemy removed. Led by Fr. Pavle Vučković, embodied by Fr. Hrvatin Gabrijel Jurišić, joyful and grateful believers have since celebrated their Protector with even greater zeal.

The 1715 Battle of Sinj is a unique stage spectacle that, with its originality and drama, instantly transports the spectators to the year of the glorious victory that determined the future of the city. The author of the dramatic template is prof. Velimir Borkovic. The play was realized in collaboration with the Shrine of Our Miraculous Lady of Sinj and the Alkar Knights Society. About a hundred participants contributed to its successful performance this year as well.

The main characters are Fr. Hrvatin Gabrijel Jurišić, Marko Duvnjak, Bruno Barać, Marijan Grbavac, Damir Žane Alebić, Saša Miletić, Bobo Delonga, Dijana Ivić Kundid, Bože Pavić, Sanja Gojun Vučković, Vedrana Vrgoč, Mirjana Živalj, Anđelka Vučković, Marija Mandac, Dino Vukovic, Dubravka Vukovic, Dusan Roguljic and Marko Jelincic. In addition to amateur theater actors, members of the historical unit of the Kliški Uskoks, the Veterans' Cooperative Patriot, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, the Association of Rera and Gusle from Otok, the Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Cetina Region, Sinjski Ferali and Marko Vuković, and Alkar Stable horses led by Mr. Andrija Ribičić. Branka Marinović and Vesna Bader took care of the staging and costumes. The director of the play is the prominent theater, television, and film actor Robert Kurbaša. The assistant director is Bruno Barać, and the playwright and producer are Luka Perković.

This year's performance is also dedicated to all Croatian veterans and those who helped make the show happen but are no longer with us.

Furthermore, special thanks go to Mr. Vlado Sunko and Brodosplit, who, with this year's performance of the famous cantata to Our Lady of Sinj, magnified this play and thus gave it a new dimension in a unique way. Furthermore, the media and the audience who, despite pandemic conditions, participated successfully and patiently in the implementation of all recommended measures of the Civil Protection Headquarters as well as the NZJZ to preserve health, as well as our students (TIC staff) who took care of it," said the Sinj Tourist Board.

August 5, 2021 - After last year's break due to the pandemic, this year, from August 6 to 7, the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj and Split-Dalmatia County, and in cooperation with the Beauty Tradition Association, the 11th Sinj Village Fair will be held on Dr. Franjo Tudjman Square.

More than 30 exhibitors from the Cetina region, Kaštela, Marina, Split, Vrgorac, and Zagorje, will present and offer various products - from decorations and handicrafts to gourmet delicacies and products of the villages and islands. They will be presented during the fair to preserve the traditional crafts of Croatia.

Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the traditional hand wheel pottery from Potravlje under the skillful hands of master Ivan Knezović. This traditional craft has been nominated by the Ministry of Culture for UNESCO protection. The Tourist Board, under the auspices of the Ministry, organizes extremely well-attended educational workshops every year. It is important to mention the almost forgotten skill of making opanaks, the only footwear that our ancestors knew and that served them faithfully and for a long time in all activities, which Ljilja Vojković will demonstrate.

Visitors will try their hand at making and thus have a valuable opportunity to get closer and connect with the customs of the region through indigenous products, traditional crafts, and skills such as building drywall with the Dragodid Association, the skills of blacksmith Josip Evačić from Koprivnica, and a wool processing workshop that members of KUD Cetina will present. The fair will also host exhibitions of student works from the Split School of Crafts on "Women in Alka," participants of this year's Sinj photo workshop "World in Colors," and a screening of a film and exhibition of travel writers and photographers Angela and Davor Rostuhar entitled "Love around the world".

Numerous tastings of local products and dishes (fry bread, young cheese) will be organized as part of the fair, and friends from Vrbanja will prepare specialties of their region for visitors. In addition to the exhibition and enogastronomic part, visitors will be able to enjoy the entertainment program with concerts by bands: Kopito, Ljuta kuća, Guiliano and Diktatori; Sinj majorettes, numerous klapas, associations, and cultural and artistic societies, for example, KUD Cetina, KUD Vrilo, Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Cetina Region, KUD Dicmo, KUD Glavice, KUD Dusina, URIG from Otok, KUD PLETER, Goran Mikas, klapa Cetinjanke from Hrvaca and Rusul's vocal ensemble.

By organizing the Sinj Village Fair, the Sinj Tourist Board enables interested citizens and visitors in Sinj to taste and buy high-quality traditional local products that are difficult to find in stores. At the same time, it helps small and medium-sized agricultural farms from the rural area of ​​Sinj and its surroundings and other parts of Croatia to promote and sell their products. Instructed by the previous experience of exceptional attendance, this year, more exhibitors from all over Croatia are expected, and a minimum of 20% of local producers. As the organizer, the Sinj Tourist Board is obliged to provide more space and more tables for exhibitors to ensure the fair is top quality and meets the expectations of all participants.
