Weekend Break: Inland Dalmatia - Video from the Croatian National Television

The Croatian National Television in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) suggests where to spend a family weekend in Croatia - few ideas what to do in the Dalmatian Hinterland for a weekend break.

Let´s start with a few associations. Alka, Our Lady of Sinj and the friendly people, not to be found anywhere else. That is Sinj. Just 35 kilometres away from Split, but totally different. There is a different way of communication and people use a very ´creative´ and ´vivid´ vocabulary, so the insiders say, that every visitor will return from Sinj with a few new words in his vocabulary. Of course, with a lot of catchphrases.

Locals say, that life in Sinj takes place in bars. There are even 150 in the city centre. So, the first thing you will do in Sinj is drink a coffee on the square (pjaca). You can visit Sinj any time of the year, because we have the most bars per capita, we also have a great night life and Sinj girls are even prettier than those in Split, as well as our guys, say people in Sinj proudly.

But when you see those little "Alkars", your heart will melt, as they are so sweet. Because every little boy younger than 10, coming from the Vuckovići hamlet in Sinj can participate in the Children´s Alka. It is interesting, that all of them are from Vučkovići, but they are not related. Those little "Alkars" are the perfect introduction to the Museum of Sinj Alka, where you will be so impressed by Alka, that you will want to braid your hair and sketch those gorgeous Alka knights.

Since the opening for the 300 anniversary of the Alka tournament this summer, 10.000 visitors passed through the museum already. A modern and interactive museum with more than 100 exhibits is waiting for everyone in Sinj. From life-size Alka knights and horses to lots of archive content in digital format, says the head of the Museum.

First the tradition, than sports. Sinj surroundings is ideal for recreational sports of all kinds, especially hikers and bikers. There are over 40 km of marked bike trails in Sinj, so it is ideal for a day trip over the weekend fun for the whole family.

But that´s not all. You can´t leave Hinterland hungry, because that would make the hosts angry. Even the dishes have heroic names, so it is easy to become a hero after you eat ´arambaši´. And for the way back, they will pack some prosciutto (pršut) and Sinj donuts (uštipak) made for all kind of occasions.

A Major Report of the French Le Figaro About Sinj Alka

After great promotion of the 300th Sinj Alka in the U.S. and Brussels, the French Le Figaro reports about the Alka in the last edition of its Magazine issue on 10 pages. Great cooperation of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Tourist Board office in France and Sinj tourist board to host the journalists from France.

The Croatian National Tourist Board informs about the reportage on its website:

"Journalists of the Le Figaro present Sinj Alka as the oldest knight tournament on the European continent with a long tradition of unbelievable 300 years. The report says, it is an important social event, which makes all the inhabitants of the region very proud and which is being broatcast by the national television.

Reporters point out that this significant event has nothing to do with organized folklore for tourists, but is an old knight´s game dedicated to the patron of Sinj - Lady of Sinj, which according to tradition helped defeat the Ottomans. They add, that Alka is an eternal reminder of the heroism of the ancestors and an eternal vow of loyalty and respect.

Le Figaro Magazine is one of the most influential magazines in France, with 2 million readers and more than 400 thousand copies sold. Commercial price of one-page ad in the magazine is more than 37 thousand EUR.

Who Will be the Next Sinj Tourist Board Director?

The 1st day of September is behind the door. A day, when the current Sinj tourist board director will start her new job running the national tourist board office in Prague.

Jelena is leaving big shoes to fill and we are very curious, who will be replacing her. As it turns out, we will have to wait for a bit longer as according to ferata.hr website, only 2 applications came in and the tourist board council decided to have a second round of the application process to get more qualified people to apply.

So, all of you talented people in Sinj and surroundings, there is still time to apply and to use all of your talent and creativity to help Sinj and Inland Dalmatia on their path as an attractive tourism destination.

We wish the tourist board council many new application. Choosing the new Sinj tourist board director will not be easy..

Just Missed Alka this Year? Visit the Alka Museum!!

Living in a small village is great for being close to the nature, having a small community around, organic food on hand and fresh air to breathe, yes - all that is great, but occasionally we desire a city. For the culture. For theatres, historic buildings, public transportation, different people and museums.

Even my child loves museums after we visited the Children´s Museum in Bratislava and with the opening line from the employee of the museum welcoming us: "This is a museum, where everything you see can be touched!", I don´t need to tell you that as a parent to (then) a 2,5 years old this was heaven to my ears. And we love even those who have a bit stricter touching-rules, but so far my search for a really good museum in Split and its surroundings was not so successful.

So, I am pleased there is this brand new museum in Sinj to explore. Opened 2 days ago with those life-sized statues, this Alka Museum will for sure be a hit of the city, not to mention the region. Enjoy the pictures from the Sinj tourist board and head to Sinj - The Alka Museum is open daily from 9 till 21:00.
