August 20, 2020 - Thanks to the rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as well as a number of diverse cultural events, Sinj and the Cetina region have long been engraved in golden letters on the tourist map of Croatia.
Thanks to the pursuit of sustainable tourism, the coexistence of carefully designed activities that are equally enjoyed by both hosts and guests, events in the Alka city always attract attention and a growing audience. This year, however, in a somewhat reduced form due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of such events is the Musical Evenings at the Kamicak Fortress.
Concerts of classical, but also traditional and jazz music are organized at the authentic and unique Kamicak fortress with a beautiful stage under the open sky. Such an approach popularizes these, perhaps somewhat neglected, musical expressions, and where better than in Sinj, a city of rich musical tradition.
The Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Sinj, has been organizing successful and extremely well-attended concerts for several years. So far, the Academic Accordion Orchestra "Ivan Goran Kovačić", Sara Renar, Jazz swing quintet "Repassage", Wind Quintet "Kalamos", the unique Samobor percussion ensemble "Sudar Percussion", ethno musician Dunja Knebl with the band Kololira and ethno, Nocturnal4 and Ratko Zjača and ZZ Quartet.
This year, there will be an extraordinary program, on August 22, 2020, starting at 20:30 and ending at 23:00, the best of classical music will be presented to Sinj and guests by young Sinj artists gathered in the trio Ventus, and traditional music will be presented by renowned performers gathered in the trio Ex Ponto.
About the musicians:
Trio EX PONTO
A newer chamber ensemble on the Croatian music scene was formed in 2019 with the collaboration of three renowned musicians: Bruno Phillip - clarinet, Mario Igrec - guitar, Ambrozije Puškarić - guitar. They came together with a long-standing desire to perform eastern-influenced music together.
Through travels in different musical modes, the trio nurtures and expands its repertoire with arrangements of authentic melodies. Klezmer music, Croatian traditional music, Romanian music, Turkish traditional music, Macedonian and Greek music, are some of the most represented styles in the performances of the trio Ex Ponto.
TRIO VENTUS
Created in 2018 and operates as an independent project of former students of the Elementary Music School Jakov Gotovac in Sinj. The band consists of Mirna Alfirević piano, Martina Bilić - flute and Mislav Norac - clarinet.
Young academic musicians have won a number of awards at national and international competitions throughout Croatia and abroad. Their love for music and making music together has made them a serious band that includes in their repertoire works of various stylistic periods - from classical and romanticism to contemporary music. In addition to the repertoire of foreign composers, the trio pays special attention to performing works by Croatian composers.
The concert will take place with the implementation of the recommended measures of the Civil Protection Headquarters and the NZJZ.
Admission is free, but due to the situation with COVID -19 disease is limited to preserve the health of all visitors.
August 14, 2020 - In memory of the glorious defense of Sinj from the Ottoman invasion, the battle of Sinj in 1715 and the events that preceded it were staged this year. The play was organized by the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj and the Ministry of Culture, and in cooperation with the Shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, the Alka Knights Society and KU Marko Marulic.
The plot of the "Battle of Sinj in 1715" took place in two acts. The first act began at the Market Square, King Tomislav Square, where the Ottoman conquest of the town of Sinj, the burning of the church and the enslavement of the regiment were staged. A handful of defenders with the image of the Mother of God took refuge in the Sinj Fortress, the easy conquest of which was announced by the arrogant Mustafa-pasha Celic, who triumphantly passed in a carriage with his entourage. This year, the play was enriched by the performance of the Brodosplit City Choir under the direction of maestro Vlado Sunko, and excellent light and sound effects.
In the second act, which took place this year in the original ambiance of the Alkarski dvori, the Defense Council decided to defend its city despite a more numerous and superior enemy. With Our Lady's intercession, the Ottomans were eventually defeated, and the threat of the enemy removed. Led by Fr. Pavle Vučkovic, embodied by Fr. Hrvatin Gabrijel Jurisic, the joyful and grateful faithful have since celebrated their Protector with even greater zeal.
The Battle of Sinj in 1715 is a unique stage spectacle that, with its originality and drama, instantly transports the spectators to the year of the glorious victory that determined the future of the city. The author of the dramatic template was prof. Velimir Borkovic. The play was realized in cooperation with the Shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj and the Alka Knights Society.

May 18, 2020 - The speleological section of the Mountaineering Society Sv. Jakov - Bitelić, with the support of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service - Sinj Branch, Civic Initiative Clean Underground, Hrvace Municipality, Sinj Tourist Board and numerous mountaineering associations, cleaned the waste from a pit in the Vrdovo area.
Croatian karst is known in the world for its deep pits. In Croatia, 54 pits deeper than 250 m have been explored so far, of which three pits are deeper than 1000 m.
Every year, speleologists find a large number of hitherto unexplored caves and pits. Exploration in large caves and pits takes years. Unfortunately, speleologists often find an increasing number of ecologically endangered caves and pits. Apart from polluted waters and geotechnical interventions in the environment, caves and pits are mostly endangered by waste that is intentionally thrown into them. Numerous such cases are also in the Cetina region.
Therefore, on May 16, the Speleological Section of the Mountaineering Society Sv. Jakov - Bitelić decided to host an environmental action to clean a pit about 60 m deep in the area of Vrdovo in the locality at the foot of Kondžomanovog umca, which unscrupulous citizens have been filling with waste for years. The action had the support of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service - Sinj Branch, Civic Initiative Clean Underground, Hrvace Municipality, numerous mountaineering associations: Velebit, Svilaja, Mosor, Kočari, Jelinak, Željezničar and the Sinj Tourist Board and the Cetina Region.
The purpose of the whole action was to develop environmental awareness, but also appeal to all tourists who visit the natural beauties of Inland Dalmatia to be environmentally responsible and not leave waste in nature.
The Sinj Tourist Board said they are pleased that the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy has sent the Croatian Parliament a Bill on the proclamation of the Dinara Nature Park. Namely, the new law will protect the Dinara massif (Dinara, Troglav and Kamešnica), the source part and the upper course of the river Cetina and karst fields (Hrvatačko, Paško and Vrličko) along the Cetina.
The protection of the Dinara massif in the category of a nature park is of special interest to the Republic of Croatia due to the preservation of original natural values, rich geodiversity, wild species and endemics and the overall diversity of natural habitats of the Krka and Cetina rivers with their tributaries, wetlands, rocks, forest and cave habitats. and other natural values derived from the centuries-old tradition of the use of space and the rich cultural and historical heritage preserved in numerous archaeological finds and cultural and historical heritage.
The organizers of the action thank everyone who selflessly helped in this demanding environmental action.
