April 26, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Austrian Airlines flights to Split and Dubrovnik will finally operate after a series of delays!
Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian Airlines will soon resume traffic on regular flights from Vienna to Dubrovnik Airport and Split Airport! Although the company has been planning regular routes to these two destinations since the beginning of April, this did not happen due to passenger restrictions, low bookings, and the epidemiological situation. At the end of March, the company resumed traffic on the line from Vienna to Zagreb and will now resume traffic to two destinations on the coast.
The Vienna-Split-Vienna route will operate from Friday, April 30, with three flights every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. E190 aircraft are planned on the route, but in case of higher demand, the company will increase its capacity by replacing the aircraft with a fleet from the A320 family. In the peak of the summer season, Austrian plans to operate daily between Vienna and Split.
Only a few days later, the Vienna-Dubrovnik-Vienna line will be in traffic again. Two flights a week have been announced; from May 2, every Friday and Sunday, and from May 12, there should be an increase in the number of weekly operations. Lufthansa and Iberia have already resumed traffic to Dubrovnik; as was announced earlier, Spanish Vueling will soon do the same. At the beginning of May, Polish LOT planes will land at Dubrovnik Airport again.
In addition to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, and Split, Austrian Airlines also operates to Zadar Airport. The flight from Vienna to Zadar is currently postponed to May 13, and two flights a week are available for booking from that date. Austrian plans to gradually increase the number of weekly flights between Vienna and Zadar, and A319 aircraft have been announced on the route.
At the beginning of May, Austrian will operate between Zagreb and Vienna four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

April 24, 2021 - The new coastal promenade from Duilovo to Stobreč is closer to becoming a reality.
Dalmatinski Portal reports that as part of the large infrastructure project 'Improving Water and Communal Infrastructure of the Split - Solin Agglomeration', a 1,700-meter pipeline route with a service road by the sea will be built.
The construction project for the pipeline from Bačvice to UPOV Stupa with a planned total value of approximately HRK 253 million (including VAT), which includes the Duilovo-Stobreč section with a coastal embankment and service road, is financed in part from European grants from the project for Improving the Water and Communal Infrastructure of the Split - Solin Agglomeration. The total value of the entire project amounts to HRK 1,791,760,602.63, which with HRK 975,315,032.88, i.e., 68.71% of eligible costs is financed by grants from the European Union from the Cohesion Fund through the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 - 2020. The remaining HRK 444,093,449.22 or 31.29% will be co-financed by national funds.
Realizing the Split-Solin agglomeration project has been blocked for many years by a lawsuit of a small group of dissatisfied citizens, led by Nebojsa Knezevic, who challenged the issued location permits. The project could finally come to fruition after the High Administrative Court ruling in September 2020.
The investor of the pipeline and service road is Vodovod i kanalizacija d.o.o Split and the City of Split will participate in horticultural costs and paving the service road along the infrastructure embankment on the Duiolovo-Stobreč section, which will also serve as a coastal promenade.
In addition to the construction of the road, it is also planned to plant greenery with autochthonous varieties of trees and low vegetation. The promenade will be beautified by approximately 559 trees, 4087 shrubby plants, and 2377 traditional Dalmatian plants such as lavender and rosemary.
The new sea view of the city will be ideal for walks, socializing and cycling. Citizens will soon enjoy the attraction that will give a special atmosphere to the city," said ViK.

April 23, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Vueling flights to Split and Dubrovnik will operate from Barcelona next month.
Croatian Aviation reports that the well-known Spanish low-cost airline Vueling will reconnect Croatia with the capital of Catalonia - Barcelona, from the beginning of next month.
Vueling has confirmed the reintroduction of regular international routes from Barcelona to two Croatian airports - Dubrovnik and Split.
In the first days of May, this airline will resume regular flights to Dubrovnik Airport and Split Airport from its main base - Barcelona.
The Barcelona - Dubrovnik - Barcelona line will be in operation from May 2, once a week, every Sunday. As early as May 13, the company will add a second weekly flight on Thursdays. The company plans to significantly increase the traffic on this line at the beginning of June and operate 5 times a week between Dubrovnik and Barcelona. Vueling is the only company operating on this line and has no direct competition.
The second Vueling line to Dubrovnik, the one from Rome, has been postponed until June 1.
In addition to the line to Barcelona, Dubrovnik is currently the only Croatian airport connected by a regular line with Madrid. Namely, the Spanish Iberia resumed traffic on this route in the first days of the summer flight schedule, with one flight per week. From May 2, Iberia will operate twice a week between Madrid and Dubrovnik on Fridays and Sundays.
Vueling will also return to Split in May. The Barcelona - Split - Barcelona line has been announced from May 1, once a week throughout the following month, every Saturday. Five weekly flights are planned for June, but the company will likely reduce the number of operations following the demand.
Vueling also runs to Split and Rome. This line is also currently postponed to early June.
In addition to Split and Dubrovnik, Vueling normally operates to Zagreb and Zadar, but these lines have not been announced for May. More specifically, the line from Rome to Zadar has been announced for July, while the line between Barcelona and Zagreb is currently planned for June 19. Given that there is a high probability that Croatia Airlines will not operate between Zagreb and Barcelona this summer season, Vueling will be the only airline to offer direct flights between the two cities. In the last crisis year, Vueling operated on this route, but reduced and significantly shorter than under normal circumstances.
The Spanish low-cost airline will operate 13 return flights to Croatia in May and offer just over 4,600 seats between Barcelona, Split, and Dubrovnik.

April 23, 2021 - The new Split Theater by the Sea will bring theatrical performances by top actors in a Mediterranean ambiance all summer long.
Dalmatinski Portal reports that summer evenings, excellent theatrical performances by top actors, a Mediterranean ambiance - all this, and even more, will be made possible thanks to the new Theater by the Sea festival in Split, with two theater stages will be set up in Lora. The seaview festival results from the cooperation of long-term partners - the Moruzgva Theater, B GLAD Production, and Amadeus Events.
The event is conceived as a summer theater festival. The program consists of more than 20 different theater plays for adults and several plays for children.
The plays will be performed on two open stages, small and large, from May 18 to mid-September. There will be a four-month theatrical program and as many as 78 performances ahead of us. Theatrical titles include one premiere and four pre-premieres.
Some of the recognized actors who will enhance this festival with their performances are Ecija Ojdanić, Slavko Sobin, Ksenija Pajić, Vladimir Posavec - Tušek, Ana Begić Tahiri, Momčilo Otašević, Mila Elegović, Bojan Jambrošić, Mladen Čutura, Ana Gruica Uglešić, and Katarina Baban.
"There are sometimes some wishes that you can hardly say out loud to yourself. Such a wish was a theater festival to my taste, and here it is finally, and also in my Split! B GLAD Produkcija and Amadeus events are partners of the Moruzgvi Theater in fulfilling this wish, and behind these names are people, long-term associates, and friends with whom this whole idea took its place," said Ecija Ojdanić, head of the Moruzgva Theater, emphasizing the new location where the people of Split will be able to enjoy cultural events.
Tadija Kolovrat from B GLAD production said:
"We bravely embarked on a great adventure that will launch Split to the top of the list of cultural events this summer, not only in Croatia but also much wider. We are convinced that the audience will reluctantly accept our venture and support us in our adventure. A large number of the highest quality titles from all over Croatia, top performers, beautiful ambiance - all this is Theater by the Sea!"
Damir Bubalo from Amadeus events said that they are aware of the crisis and all the difficulties that the pandemic has brought us. Still, he believes that despite that, the non-institutional theater scene in Split has never been richer.
"There is never too much cultural content in our city, and there is an audience for all programs. Our audience guided us in choosing theatrical titles in the desire to offer our fellow citizens quality cultural content and a direct departure from the currently worrying reality. We are looking forward to spending time with the audience and actors, and all this, of course, respecting all epidemiological measures," said Bubalo, adding:
"I expect theatrical Ultra or Woodstock."
Alijana Vukšić, director of the Split Tourist Board, said that she was pleased to support the event, which will enable fellow citizens and tourists to enjoy art and outdoor entertainment.
"Despite the pandemic, such outdoor events will provide an interesting and meaningful stay for domestic and foreign tourists. I use the opportunity to invite all fellow citizens to ensure a successful tourist year with responsible behavior," said Vukšić.
The Moruzgva Theater will present the pre-premiere of 'Zvonili ste, Zorane' and the hit performances 'Vla, Vla, Vlajland,' 'Majstori,' 'Preko veze,' and 'Gola u kavezu'.
B GLAD production will be a guest with the pre-premiere of 'Puni pansion,' a new play '4 poze, sretan svršetak' and the well-known titles 'Politician,' 'Who the f *** is Biba' and the children's musical 'Mi o vuku.'
In addition to the Moruzgvu Theater and B GLAD production, as organizers of the festival, the repertoire will also include theatrical performances of their colleagues.
Just some of the performances at the new Split festival are the premiere of 'Tesla - Adapting Angels' (Ka'Bina, KIC & Teatar Erato).' They lived happily ...? '(Scena Gorica),' Dogs, money, guns' (GKM Split), 'Don't give up, Njofra' (theater group Lectirum), and many others. The program will be enriched by the children's theater Žar ptica with excellent children's performances.
The festival was supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Split Tourist Board, and the inevitable friends of culture Bakra Steak & Pizza Bar and Tavern - Pizzeria Lučac.

April 22, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as British Airways flights to Dubrovnik resume mid-May, frequencies to Split have been increased, and the return to Zagreb Airport is further delayed.
Croatian Aviation reports that British national airline British Airways has made changes to its summer flight schedule. It has further delayed its return to Zagreb but has increased the planned number of operations to Split Airport.
British Airways has not operated to Zagreb Airport since January this year. The company suspended all flights on this route after the UK strain of the virus appeared and a ban on commercial flights from this country was briefly introduced. After that, traffic to Zagreb was not renewed. Although companies are gradually returning to Zagreb Airport (Lufthansa, LOT, Austrian, etc.), British Airways has not yet done so, and it is obvious that it will not soon. Namely, the company canceled all flights until June 21 and currently plans to operate between Zagreb and London again from that date.
Currently, 11 flights per week are available for booking from the end of June, with a daily departure from Zagreb after 1 pm. A second daily flight will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in the evening.
Given that British plans to return to Zagreb at the end of June, the realization of flights should not be in question, but the number of weekly flights certainly is. There is no doubt that the company will cancel certain flights and fly significantly fewer times a week compared to what is available today for booking on the airline’s website.
The first flight between London and Split has been announced for the end of May (May 28), and in the second half of June, there will be a significant increase in weekly frequencies (up to 5 flights per week). Additionally, from the same date, the company will operate on London City - Split line!
This carrier offers as many as 11 flights a week to Split, 8 weekly flights from Heathrow Airport, and an additional 3 flights a week from London City from the end of June.
The London Heathrow - Dubrovnik Airport - London Heathrow line should start operating first, in mid-May. From May 17, three flights are available a week, on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays, and a month later (from mid-June), British plans to operate on this line as many as 10 times a week. Traditionally, Dubrovnik is the most popular destination for British tourists in Croatia, and after the outbreak of the pandemic, all operations to Dubrovnik were transferred from Gatwick Airport to Heathrow.
Pula Airport should also have two flights a week. The London - Pula Airport - London line will be in traffic from June 22, twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Due to the global pandemic, British Airways renewed this line only in August last year and suspended it already in September, so Heathrow and Pula will be connected for a longer period this year.
In total, British Airways will offer as many as 34 flights a week between London and Croatian airports in the peak of the summer season this year.
If we consider that other airlines (WizzAir, Ryanair, EasyJet, Croatia Airlines, Jet2.com, TUI,…) will operate between Croatian and London airports, the number of available seats on the market will certainly be more than enough. The demand of British tourists for Croatia will again be crucial for airlines' survival between these destinations.

April 21, 2021 - The new City of Split bike path from the Tourist Palace in the center to the neighborhood of Trstenik has been revealed.
"As announced, marking the bicycle route from Trstenik Bay to the Tourist Palace, about four kilometers long, has begun. We would like to remind you that the consents of the Ministry of the Interior and Hrvatske ceste have been obtained previously, and the traffic signs have been made according to the detailed design. Given the spatial conditions and the previous spatial planning documentation that did not provide for the construction of this type of communal infrastructure, the arrangement of traffic signals will contribute to increasing the safety of bicycle traffic in this part of the city," said the City of Split on its Facebook page Tuesday.
The works are co-financed by the European Union within the strategic project "Choose a bicycle!" - "URBAN MOBILITY - Development of public bicycle system in the Urban Agglomeration of Split (UAS)", implemented by the Service for International and EU projects with funds provided through the ITU mechanism of the Urban Agglomeration Split. In addition to the mentioned cycling route, as part of this project, the City of Split will prepare an analytical basis - a study of the development potential of bicycle roads for the establishment of an integrated system of bicycle roads, which will achieve one of the prerequisites for the development of bicycle roads in Split and Split.
Recall, the total value of the project "Choose a bike!" amounts to HRK 13,609,435.83, with HRK 10,893,396.68 in grants. In addition to the aforementioned activities within this integrated project, the City of Split and 7 partners - cities and municipalities from the Urban Agglomeration of Split (Solin, Trogir, Kaštela, Podstrana, Klis, Dugopolje, and Dicmo), will receive 41 new stations with a mixed contingent with a total 242 bicycles and a bicycle road will be established in Trogir (in the area of Brig-Lokvica). The project implementation period is from March 6, 2020, to July 6, 2022.

April 17, 2021 - The Sudamja 2021 event has been announced to commemorate Split City Day, celebrated on May 7 each year.
"The feeling of belonging to Sv. Duje, the patron saint of our Split, will remain the same even though this year, due to the pandemic, traditional events within Sudamja 2021 will be absent," said Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara about the celebration of Sv. Duje - Split City Day 2021.
The secular part of the celebration of the most important city holiday will be adapted to the circumstances and current epidemiological measures. Thus, on May 6, a ceremony will be held at the Croatian National Theater in Split, where the City will present awards to this year's laureates. Following the circumstances and without major gatherings, the holiday will be celebrated within the city institutions.
The "Judita" exhibition on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Marulić's first edition of Judita will open in the renovated Old Town Hall on Pjaca, and in the Diocletian Gallery of the Split City Museum, visitors can enjoy an exhibition on Italian design "Rosso, il colore della passione", realized in cooperation with the Consulate General Italy. On May 3, a concert featuring Matej Meštrović and Kristina Bjelopavlović Cesar, and on May 5, 2021, opera soloists Valentina Fijačko Kobić and Domagoj Dorotić was announced.
This year, like last year when we were hit by the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no traditional events such as the raffle, concerts on the waterfront, fish market spectacles, or the regatta of rowing legends. There will also be no Sv. Križ Feast, nor the performances of Split singing groups on the Riva.
As part of the Novena, which begins on April 28, the Archdiocese of Split and Makarska will hold daily Mass at 6 pm, which will be broadcast live on TV Laudato and social networks. Archbishop Coadjutor Msgr. Dražen Kutleša will lead the Central Mass. Following epidemiological circumstances, there will be multiple Holy Masses on the feast of Sv. Duje. The first will be held at 7 am and 8 am before the Central Mass, which starts at 10 am and will be broadcast live on HTV, and at 16:00, 18:00, and 20:00.

April 15, 2021 - HRK 9.2 million was invested in the comprehensive renovation of the Split Old Town Hall as part of the strategic City of Split and EU project "Palace of Life - City of Changes."
"Despite the pandemic, we have completed the realization of this extremely demanding activity within the Palace of Life - City of Changes project, following the previously announced deadlines. There is still some work left, but the facility is being prepared for a technical inspection that will take place tomorrow," says Radojka Tomašević, Head of the Service for International and EU Projects of the City of Split. This is a comprehensive renovation and valorization of the Old Town Hall, in which 9.2 million kuna was invested from the strategic City of Split EU project "Palace of Life - City of Changes." Namely, in March 2020, in parallel with the Covid-19 pandemic and after the completion of archaeological research, the adaptation and arrangement of this valuable city's cultural heritage began.
The Old Town Hall is an object of monumental importance, protected as part of the old town on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and an individually protected property. By renovating the Hall, Split gets a modern multifunctional space for exhibitions, lectures, smaller concerts, receptions, and other purposes. A smaller part is dedicated to the permanent exhibition that thematizes the City Hall through history.
There is a reception with a souvenir shop on the ground floor of the newly renovated Town Hall and an exhibition space of about 50 square meters. The first floor is reached by a semicircular staircase and an elevator to a large exhibition, multifunctional space with storage, and a smaller permanent display, which is also a reading room. Visitors will sit there and read books from the shelves but not take them out, as they are protected by special technology. According to sources, a book by Robert Adam about Diocletian's Palace was exhibited in the 19th century City Hall. A facsimile of that same book will be displayed under glass, and on a touch screen, it will be viewed and read.
With the removal of modern interventions in the interior, stone fragments came to light, of which the Gothic arch stands out, which extends through two floors and is additionally prominent in the space.
On the second floor, there is a large multifunctional space with a projector for lectures or exhibitions. There is a storage room, installation systems for ventilation, and regulation of microclimatic conditions in the attic.
The exhibition space is relieved and cleaned. The first and second floors have controlled microclimatic conditions that allow the display of the most sensitive and valuable exhibits in the world, with a modern lighting flexible LED system without UV radiation with the ability to regulate lighting intensity. It will range from 200 lux for paintings to 50 lux for other exhibits made of paper, textiles, metal, glass, and the like.
For years, it has been pointed out that the potential of heritage, especially Split's, is not sufficiently developed or adequately presented. It ultimately remains unrecognized and generates costs instead of profit and jobs. Preserving and strengthening the cultural identity, quality, and thoughtful restoration of heritage also increases the destination's recognition on the market. To this end, it took almost two years to prepare and resolve property-legal and other preconditions for the application of the project "Palace of Life - City of Changes" for funding from EU funds.
The renovation of the Old Town Hall was made according to the Office of Authorized Architect Josipa Ružić. Designer Nikolina Jelavić Mitrović is the author of the interior, as well as the permanent exhibition, designed according to the concept of Dr. Josip Belamarić. Neir d.o.o worked hundreds of ours under the constant supervision of the Conservation Department in Split and the expert supervision of Atesti i zaštita d.o.o and Linir d.o.o.
The reconstruction value of the Old Town Hall is worth HRK 9.2 million, provided within the strategic EU project "Palace of Life - the City of Changes" implemented by the Service for International and EU Projects with funds provided through the ITU mechanism Urban agglomerations of Split. The total value of the project "Palace of Life - City of Changes" is HRK 25.4 million, of which HRK 18.2 million are grants from the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The project holder is the City of Split, the partners are the Split Tourist Board and the Split City Museum, while the Development Agency Split - RaST coordinated the successful preparation of the project application. The project includes the renovation of sites that were mostly not presented to the public - the Southeast Tower with part of the building at Lukačićeva 5 and access to the medieval procession on the east wall of Diocletian's Palace and the renovation of the ground floor of the Museum of Split, which will soon be accessible to people with disabilities.
