Children in Croatia and Diaspora Connected by "Roots" Project

By 23 June 2018

ZAGREB, June 23, 2018 - A video conference connecting the primary school "Blago Zadro" in Vukovar, a primary school in Široki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Croatian School ("Hrvatska Škola") in Dublin was held on Saturday within the programme called "Roots", designed by the Zagreb-based Central State Office for Croats Abroad to strengthen the bonds between Croatia and its diaspora communities.

During the three-hour conference, the head of the above-mentioned office Zvonko Milas sent a message from the Vukovar school, and said that taking part in the project was an excellent way to find all elements of the Croatian identity that connect school-age children of Croatian origin worldwide.

"Networking the schools is a very suitable way to help children and teachers from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and all expat communities worldwide to get acquainted with each other," Milas said.

The speaker of the lower house of the Irish parliament Sean O Fearghail addressed the conference from Dublin and expressed great support to this project. The Irish official spoke about the importance of preserving the language and the culture of a nation. He said that the Croatian expats in Ireland represented a huge contribution to the Irish society and added that Dublin would support the projects of the Croat community in the western European country.

The next video conference of this kind is scheduled for the start of the next school year in September.
