Bosnian Croats Urged to Close Ranks for Upcoming Elections

By 10 August 2018

ZAGREB, August 10, 2018 - The Bosnian Presidency's Croat member Dragan Čović has called on Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to come together in upcoming general elections in order to prevent other, more numerous peoples in the country, to choose their government representatives.

"Many have tried to deny us what is defined by the Constitutional Court, legitimate representation of the Croat people at all administrative levels of government in BiH. So an appeal to all of us who would still like to think differently about running policies in BiH. It's very important that we close ranks in the next two months," the leader of the strongest Bosnian Croat party, the HDZ BiH, said.

He voiced confidence it would not be possible to impose a government without Croats, saying it was important to include war veterans, business people, cultural workers and Church representatives in a joint project to preserve the position of the Croat people.

Čović said it was up to this generation of Croats to ensure Croat equality in BiH so that "we can proudly say this is our homeland."

He said the Croat people were bearers of positive values, notably the European journey.
