Town in Zagorje Will See First Eco-Pool in Croatia

By 26 March 2017

The town of Pregrada in the region of Hrvatsko zagorje, which is located just north of Zagreb, will boast a new eco-friendly attraction this year…

By this summer, the town of Pregrada will construct a biological pool, thus making the town the first in Croatia to have a biological pool, reports Journal.hr on March 25, 2017.

This new “eco-pool” will not use chlorine and will resemble a lake, surrounded by plants. The pool will have wooden plateaus and piers for sunbathing, a sandy beach, a playground, courts for beach volleyball, a catering facility, and an additional facility for changing rooms, reception, toilets and first aid. The new pool will also be simple to reach for tourists and families and parking will be very accessible and available.

This biological or “eco” pool is an eco-friendly version of a conventional pool. While it looks just like any classic pool, it fully functions biologically because it does not require the use of chlorine or any other chemicals. All of the clarifying and purifying of the water in the pool is achieved through biological filters and hydroponic plants in the system. The said project will increase the quality of life in the community, and offer high-quality and attractive tourist facilities in the city.

The target group for this project is the local population and local and foreign tourists. The full realization of this project will create a new public space for recreation, peace and relaxation, and social interaction in the town of Pregrada, placing the town on the map as an attractive tourist destination which offers innovative, eco-friendly, and appealing content.
