An agreement was concluded to begin the construction of the reinforced concrete structure "Westgate B” in the Westgate complex in Split, which will be a hotel building with accompanying facilities, reported Zagreb construction company "Tehnika” on Tuesday.
The move by investor company "Westgate Tower" continues their project on the second business tower in the Westgate complex in Split which was designed by architect Otto Baric, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on January 4, 2017. The first building in the complex is already committed to financial institution Splitska banka, and “Tehnika” was also involved in the construction of this skyscraper which stands along the southern intersection of Ulica Domovinskog rata and Put Stinice. The new headquarters of Societe Generale Splitska banka opened just a month ago.
As confirmed by Josip Komar, the first man at ”Westgate Tower", the construction of the northern skyscraper will begin next Monday, January 9th, and is planned for completion by Easter 2018. The project is funded with money from the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the total investment is 500 million kuna.
The investment agreement with “Tehnika” provides for raising the above-ground parts of the building, which currently consists of a ground floor and 17 floors. The project is currently requesting building permits to make the building much higher.
“Ultimately, the tower ‘B’ should be 110 meters high, which will officially be the tallest building in Croatia. It will have six underground floors, a ground floor, and 27 floors with a total area of 35,000 square meters. The project has mixed use and the hotel part of the building will have 189 rooms, four suites, a spa, fitness center, conference center, restaurants and bars,” said Komar, adding that the hotel business will be run under one of the world's largest hotel companies on whose behalf will, in his view, certainly contribute to the competitiveness of tourism in the city.
According to Komar, the second part of the building will host the headquarters of several technology companies, and the whole project will ultimately create 300 new jobs, with 2000 people able to work in the complex after construction.
