Barone Fortress Celebrates One Year Since Restoration, 50,000 Visitors

By 29 January 2017

The restoration on Barone fortress was completed end of January, 2016.

Hundreds flocked to Barone fortress in Šibenik today to celebrate one year since its restoration. While that's not all, Barone fortress had even more reason to celebrate today: since its restoration and opening last January, there have been nearly 50,000 visitors to the attraction, reports Dalmacija News and Sibenik.in on January 29, 2017.

For this special occasion today, all visitors were given free entry into the fortress and a piece of celebratory cake cut by Šibenik mayor Željko Burić.

Vera Jergović Bolanča, head of marketing, sales and public relations for the fortress, said that she is very pleased with the results they have achieved over the last year because this is an attraction that is not located easily in the city center.

“Since the opening, the fortress was visited by more than 48,500 visitors which is a desirable figure for an attraction that is not located in the city center,” Bolanča said, adding that the number of members for the “Friends Club of Šibenik Fortresses” has grown to 5,000 members.

For the upcoming season, Barone fortress plans to continue with their film programs and dances, while adding a music program this year.

If you recall, in October of last year Barone fortress won first place as a cultural attraction at “Days of Croatian Tourism” - a traditional event organized by the Croatian Tourist Board. St. Michael's fortress in Šibenik received the prestigious award in 2014.
