It's finally Friday! Judging by the forecast, a lovely weekend awaits – why not be spontaneous and skip town for a day?
If by any chance you end up somewhere in the Kvarner area, here's a suggestion: head straight to the Food Revolution Day 2017 on Krk.
Food Revolution Island Krk is a local branch of the global movement Jamie's Food Revolution. Conceived by the famous chef Jamie Oliver, the project aims to introduce healthier fresh meals in schools and promote education on food in general, to fight the obesity epidemic that's going on worldwide. As 1.7 billion people globally are obese or overweight - including 200 million children - there's a serious need for a Food Revolution, states the movement's manifest.
Numerous local branches of the initiative are doing their part in inspiring people to eat fresh, homemade meals and enjoy the act of cooking. Krk Island is marking the Food Revolution Day on Saturday, 27 May in the city of Malinska. Starting from 11, the local pier is turning into a big gourmet stage where some of the well-known Croatian chefs will be preparing free tasty meals for the visitors. Šime Sušić, the first winner of the reality show MasterChef Croatia, will join the crowd to show his cooking skills, as well as another MasterChef alumni, Ratko Iveković. Both are currently working as professional chefs and can make wonders using fresh local ingredients, and we're more than intrigued about what they're planning to whisk up from everything Krk has to offer.
Check out the Facebook event for more information, and make sure to take a look at the official website of the movement to find out more about this commendable project!
