Croatia Records Over 9 Million Tourist Overnights in First Five Months of 2017

eVisitor is a system that records tourist traffic made in commercial and non-commercial facilities and nautical charter (eCrew).

According to the first data from eVisitor, the first five months in Croatia saw 3 million arrivals and 9.3 million overnight stays. Compared to the same period last year, the number of arrivals has increased by 14% and the number of overnight stays by 11%. Out of the total number of arrivals and overnight stays, foreign tourists made up 2.4 million arrivals (+ 15%) and 7.7 million overnight stays (+10%), while domestic tourists recorded a growth of 12% in arrivals and 13% in overnight stays, reports HRTurizam on June 5, 2017.

From January to May, most overnight stays were made in Istria (2.56 million), Split-Dalmatia County (1.47 million) and Kvarner (1.42 million). Dubrovnik-Neretva County closely followed (1.23 million), then Zagreb (715,000), Zadar (700,000), Šibenik-Knin (409,000), and Lika-Senj County (191,000). On the continent, there were 610,000 overnight stays, mostly made in Krapina-Zagorje (121,000), Karlovac (84,000) and Osijek-Baranja County (69,000).

Most of the overnight stays were made by tourists from Germany (1.5 million), Austria (951,000), Slovenia (794,000), United Kingdom (568,000) and Italy (378,000). Of the total number of overnight stays, most were made in hotels (5 million), household facilities (1.5 million) and camps (1.1 million), while more than 360,000 overnight stays were made in nautical charters.

"So far we have achieved remarkable results during this tourist year and have reached a double-digit rise in arrivals and overnight stays in the first five months. Given this year's holiday schedule or the fact that this year we mark Tijelovo in June, we are expecting a great month of June and confirmation of the best preseason ever. I am extremely happy to announce very good bookings for the season, which is further confirmation that Croatia is more attractive year round and that we are no longer talking about the tourist season, but about the tourist year," said Minister of Tourism Gari Cappelli. A big contribution to the results so far is a large number of new airlines that now link Croatian destinations with many world metropolises.

An increase in tourist arrivals was also recorded in May

When looking just at the month of May, there were 1.3 million arrivals (+4%) and 4.6 million overnight stays (-2%) recorded.

Of the total number of arrivals and overnight stays in May, tourists realized 1.2 million arrivals (+3 percent) and 4.1 million overnight stays (-3 percent), while domestic tourists recorded a 7% increase in arrivals and a 9% increase in overnight stays.

Most of the overnight stays were made in Istria (1.3 million), Split-Dalmatia County (870,000), and Kvarner (670,000).
