We can feel the crowds this year more than ever, and these numbers further confirm the record year Split-Dalmatia County has achieved - and it's only July!
In the first six months of 2017, Split-Dalmatia County recorded 844,000 tourists in commercial buildings through the eVisitor system, which is 27 percent more than in the same period last year. When looking at all types of accommodation, around 3.88 million overnight stays were achieved, which is 23 percent more than in 2016, reports HRTurizam on July 12, 2017.
Foreign tourists contributed to the positive trend of tourist traffic growth, recording about 750,000 or 30 percent more than in the same period last year. Of the recorded 94,000 arrivals of domestic tourists, there was a 6 percent increase in arrivals, while 285,000 domestic overnights recorded a growth of 1 percent.
"In the first half of this year, we ended up with a remarkable rise in arrivals and overnight stays, recognized by guests from all over the world. The largest share of the pre-season arrivals was recorded in the city of Split which reported an increase of 31 percent. In the coming days, our region will host some world-renowned and recognizable events, such as Ultra Europe, which will bring tens of thousands of new guests to us and place our offer in the focus of international public interest. It is our responsibility to acknowledge the popularity and the quality gained by every guest who has shown us confidence,” said Joško Stella, director of the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County.
In the observed period, the largest number of arrivals from foreign markets were made by Germans (78,833), tourists from the UK (59,009), Poles (56,735), South Korean tourists (42,533), tourists from BiH (38,502), Swedes (37,125), and the French (35,549). At the same time, the largest number of overnight stays were also recorded by tourists from Germany, Poland, Sweden, the UK, Bosnia and Herzegovina and France. In June, 442,000 domestic and foreign visitors visited the county in commercial accommodations, recording a total of 2.39 million overnight stays across all types of accommodation (up 24 percent from last year). Foreign tourists created a 30 percent increase in arrivals in June and a 25 percent increase in overnights.
During April 2017, the port of Split saw more than 123,000 passengers, which represents a record monthly increase of as much as 63% compared to the same month in 2016. In May of this year, Split Airport had a turnover of 257,445 passengers, which is 25.8% more than last year.
In June, passenger traffic was up 25.4% compared to the same month last year, and during the first half of 2017, there has been a turnover of around 872,000 passengers, displaying an increase of 27% compared to the first six months of last year.
