If you can't make it to Split this weekend to attend the Laser Class Sailing World Championship, here's another suggestion: head to Pula!
On Saturday, September 16, the Sailing Club 'Delfin' from Pula is organising their traditional regatta called the Arena Cup. The regatta has a sports-recreational character and will take place in Pula's waters; the city provides a rare opportunity to either observe or participate in the race whose route includes a view of the ancient Roman amphitheatre, multiple islets, the port and the shipyard, all in one place!
The Arena Cup kicks off at 11:00 in front of Hotel Histria, at the entrance to Veruda port. It's expected 25 to 30 boats will participate; the first leg has the finish line set at the Carinski gat (customs pier) in the Pula port, while the second leg will take the competitors around Jerolim island and back to the port. Final results will also be used as qualification scores for the larger Argonaut Cup, to be organised in cooperation with other sailing clubs from southern Istria.
All participants can leave their boats at berth in Pula port overnight, until Sunday, September 17.
In case you want to be a part of the attractive regatta, you can apply on Saturday, September 16, at 9:30 in the Delfin port in Pula, or submit an online application here.
The event is sponsored by the City of Pula and the Tourist Board Pula, in collaboration with the Port Authority.
