By 29 September 2017

Plans to launch flights connecting China with Croatia are in progress.

With the increasing number of Chinese tourists visiting Croatia, the plans to establish flights between the country and China have been announced, EX-YU Aviation reports on September 28, 2017.

Although there are still much to negotiate, Chinese carriers are interested in expanding their presence in the European market, which includes Croatia, and the country has already established close ties with China. More specifically, there have been talks about launching a service which will connect the city of Zadar and the city of Guangzhou.

The article states that Chinese Southeast European Business Association (CSEBA) said that “Zadar Airport is leading the way in securing such operations”, adding that Zadar is becoming more and more popular as a holiday destination for Chinese tourists.

“Guangdong Province is prepared to financially support the new route. Flights could operate twice per week, most likely by Hainan Airlines, which is very interested in introducing services to Croatia and the region in general", CSEBA said.

In line with the One Belt, One Road initiative which aims to connect China with the world, a number of carriers have already shown interested in providing the service, most recently Hainan Airlines, which held talks with Croatia’s president Kolinda Grabar Kitarović. Supposedly, Hainan Airlines are mostly interested in Zadar and Osijek Airports.
