March 20, 2018 - A visual treat coming our way from Velebit, the longest mountain range in Croatia
After yet another day filled with serious, often disheartening news, it's only right we step away from politics and business for a minute and end the night with some mesmerising footage of Croatian wildlife - think of it as a visual treat to cleanse your mind before bedtime.
Goran Šafarek sent us several lovely videos of Croatian nature thus far; you might remember this piece about Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, or this one about Šoderica Lake. This time around, we're looking to the majestic Velebit, a mountain range spanning along the Adriatic as a natural border between the coast and the Lika region.
Velebit isn't the highest mountain in Croatia - that would be Dinara - but it's definitely the longest one, a 145km stretch between the town of Senj and the source of Zrmanja river northwest of Knin. The mountain is an incredible display of unspoilt nature and diverse flora and fauna, including several endemic and rare species.
Two of the eight Croatian National Parks are located on Velebit mountain: Northern Velebit and Paklenica, the latter sitatued on the southern slopes of Velebit, close to Zadar. Part of the range houses a Nature Park, including several prominent protected locations such as Cerovac caves and the Hajdučki and Rožanski Ledges Strict Nature Reserve.

As the video's description states, Velebit is one of the rare remaining areas in Croatia populated by wolves, wild bears and lynx - a natural treasure of an impressive biodiversity that will take your breath away at every step. Watch the stunning video below:
