Biokovo Nature Park to Get Makeover Worth 34 Million Kuna

April 9, 2018 - The renowned Nature Park will soon boast a modern visitor transport system, along with new activities and educational programmes for visitors

 

Ever been to Biokovo? One of the most precious natural sites in Croatia, Nature Park Biokovo covers a good part of the second-highest mountain range in Croatia, coming second to Dinara mountain. Situated between the rivers Cetina and Neretva in Dalmatia, Biokovo is home to over 1.500 animal and plant species, some of them endemic. Biokovo Nature Park has recently been granted EU funding in the amount of 32 million kuna for the project titled 'New Adrion - Promotion of Sustainable Use of Natural Heritage of Biokovo NP'. The provided funds make for 85 percent of the total required amount of 34 million kuna, Lokalni reports.

According to Velimir Vidak-Buljan, the director of the Public Institute Biokovo Nature Park, the project aims to further develop the educational potential of Biokovo NP. The management is planning to develop new educational programmes, along with various attractive activities and events for the wider public. They also want to increase the number of visitors in the coming years, with the current annual visitor count standing at 45.000.

The management of the Nature Park is also planning to amp up the overall appeal of its natural heritage, introduce higher safety measures for visitors, and increase the quality of education of their staff.

Nature Park Biokovo will soon boast a new modern visitor transport system, a new attractive viewpoint in the area of Ravna Vlaška, and a revamped road between Staza and Saranač, a historic route connecting Makarska and Vrgorac with a road stretching over Biokovo mountain.
