Croatia's summer tourism is not the only season breaking records this year.
HRTurizam reports on December 19, 2018, that according to the information collected by the tourist boards, during the Christmas and New Year holidays, tourist traffic is expected to increase by 10% compared to the same period last year in Croatia, the Croatian National Tourist Board said.
Last year, during the "hit" ten holiday days, Croatia recorded 154,000 tourist arrivals and 419,000 overnight stays (from 22 December 2017 to 2 January 2018), while this year, from 21 December 2018 to January 1, 2019, results are expected to be 10 percent better, meaning more than 170,000 arrivals and more than 460,000 nights. This result will also contribute to a better accommodation capacity.
"These indicators confirm that Croatia is successful in affirming tourism products that are not related to summer months as a step forward in achieving better year-round results, but also the distribution of tourist traffic around Croatia," said the director of the Croatian Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić, underlining that this is has been the strategic priority of the Croatian National Tourist Board for several years now.
During the Advent period, as well as throughout December, the most visited tourist destination remains the City of Zagreb, which accounts for nearly a third of all arrivals in Croatia, as well as a quarter of total overnight stays in the country. Advent in Zagreb will continue through January 6, 2019. You can read more about the program on the official website.
After Zagreb, most tourists are expected to visit the Adriatic destinations in Istria and Kvarner, as well as Split and Zadar, during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
In continental Croatia, most tourists, apart from Zagreb, are expected to visit Krapina-Zagorje, Međimurje and Karlovac County, while Osijek will welcome the most visits to the eastern part of Croatia.
