Plans and Expectations for Croatian Airports 2019: Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar

By 27 February 2019

TCN continues looking at the plans and expectations of Croatian airports in 2019, with updates from Dubrovnik, Split, and Zadar, thanks to AvioRadar

Dubrovnik Airport

Frano Luetić, director of Dubrovnik airport, claims they expect 2,670,000 passengers this year.

“The expected increase in the number of operations is about 3.5% compared to the 2018 summer season. The level of revenue and expenditures will remain at the level of 2018, and we expect a slight increase in revenues given the anticipated increase in the number of passengers.

Concerning investments, Dubrovnik airport continues to realize the airport’s development project, which is expected to be completed in the fall of 2019. As part of the project, a new airplane fuel warehouse space should be commissioned, as well as the completion of the underground fuel pipeline filling plant from where the aircraft is located, the conclusion of the business terminal construction, the end of the sewage network with Zvekovica-Cavtat, then the construction of a new administrative building and the beginning of works on the construction of a multi-story garage for 700 parking spaces.

I would particularly like to point out the start of American Airlines’ operations with the direct line between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik, three times a week, which we consider to be a great success for our airport.”

Split Airport

Assistant director of the Split airport, Pero Bilas, announced that Split airport expects 3.3 million passengers in 2019, with 14,400 operations. Revenues are expected to reach 440 million kuna, while 360 million kuna is anticipated for expenditures.

“This year, we plan to renovate the uphill and downhill tracks, install new vertical signalization, purchase aircraft maintenance equipment, and resume land acquisition near the airport.

By the end of this year, we expect the completion of works on the extension and reconstruction of the passenger terminal.”

Zadar Airport

Josip Klišmanić, director of Zadar airport, announced that they expect 700,000 passengers in 2019, with 10,500 operations. Expected revenues should reach 75,000,000 kuna.

“This is the first phase of the apron expansion, worth 18 million kuna + PDV. This airport project will provide two additional airport parking positions, which are of paramount importance for receiving and dispatching aircraft in peak traffic in the season. In the coming years, we plan to expand the apron in two more phases.

Looking at the business results, 2018 was very successful for Zadar airport, with a 6% increase in revenues and 18% growth. Both results are above what we planned, which is why we are satisfied. Expectations in 2019 are in line with airline announcements, which means continuing these positive trends.

With the increase in revenues, we expect a further increase in the profit of the company, and the constant increase in the number of passengers requires additional investments in the infrastructure and commercial facilities of the airport. So, by the end of the season, we will complete work on extending the main apron,  which will give us two additional positions. Also in progress is a restaurant within the passenger terminal.”
