57% More Tourists in Croatia From Beginning of 2021 to 7 June

June the 9th, 2021 - Things are looking up in terms of the number of tourists in Croatia when compared to last year as vaccination rates pick up and a more organised way of travelling for many finally begins.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, last weekend, from June the 2nd to the 6th, there were an encouraging 185 thousand tourists in Croatia, who spent 787 thousand overnights. Most of them were foreign guests, while almost half of the total overnights were realised in Istria, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport reported on Monday.

Out of a total of 787 thousand overnight stays achieved over the past five days, 627 thousand of them were realised by foreign tourists in Croatia and Croatian tourists realised the rest. The aforementioned ministry provided the data on physical tourist traffic from the country's eVisitor and eCrew systems, but without comparative indicators in terms of percentages with the same days last year.

According to the country's different regions, the highest number of overnight stays from the 2nd to the 6th of June was realised in Istria, numbering 303 thousand, and 50 less in Kvarner (146 thousand) and even less in the Split- Dalmatia and Zadar counties, with just 100 thousand each.

The strongest Istrian destinations such as Rovinj, Porec and Medulin also enjoyed the most overnight stays realised by tourists in Croatia (58, 35 and 28 thousand), while among foreign tourists, the most overnight stays were realised by Germans, totalling more than 200 thousand, followed by Austrians, 121 thousand, the Slovenes and Poles, with 60 thousand and 57 thousand respectively.

Tourists in Croatia mostly chose camps for accommodation, where the most overnight stays were realised, and then in private/family accommodation and in hotels.

"Croatia is recognised as a safe and desirable tourist destination, as evidenced by the excellent tourist results achieved during the first weekend of June, but also the overall results achieved since the beginning of this year.

At the moment, there are more than 110 thousand tourists in Croatia, to whom, in addition to safety and a peaceful environment, we offer a diverse and rich tourist offer, high quality accommodation and the potential for the enjoyment of cultural and natural sights as well as an authentic enogastronomic offer,'' said Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac.

She also believes that it is extremely important to continue to adhere to all of the current epidemiological measures in order to maintain a good epidemiological situation, which is crucial for the further interest of foreign guests.

The competent ministry concludes that there have been 1.3 million tourists and 4.8 million overnight stays realised here in Croatia since the beginning of the year, which is an increase of 57 and 54 percent compared to the same period in pandemic-dominated 2020.

Ten American travel agents from Texas have been staying in the country over recent days to get better acquainted with the luxury tourist offer that is in great demand on the American market, the Croatian Tourist Board (CNTB) reported on Monday.
