ZAGREB, 21 August, 2022 - The Istrian town of Barban, which is hosting "Trka Na Prstenac" traditional tournament of horsemen on 19-21 August, was also the venue of a robotic race called "Robotrka na Prstenac" on Saturday, bringing together teams of school-age children interested in robotics.

This event attracted 48 participants from 16 teams from Istria and the island of Krk, and the organisers said that the purpose of this robo race is to motivate school-age children to be active in informatics and STEM-related fields, according to a press release issued by the Bit kids 101 association.

The robo race is one of the accompanying events for the Prstenac Race.

First mentioned in 1696 and revived by the town of Barban in 1976, the Prstenac Race is held every year on the third weekend in August. The race features horsemen dressed in Istrian folk costumes, and they must cross a 150-metre track on horseback in 12 seconds and hit the "prstenac" iron ring with a spear.

President Zoran Milanović is expected to attend the final race on Sunday.
