Where NOT to Sunbathe in Jelsa

By Ivana 18 July 2015
What to do if it is almost 40 degrees outside, you have plenty of free time and the sea is so close and so warm? Well, for these kids, there is this one thing they love to do every afternoon. The Bočić beach close to the historical Hotel Jadran building, is a favourite spot for the young generation to improve their jumping skills. Interestingly, older generation likes this beach too, as there is an easy access to the see thanks to the large stairs installed last year. As it seems, the beach is big enough to handle both, young and older in a symbiosis.

But, back to the young generation. They meet, they talk, they laugh, they jump, they scream, I am pretty sure, some summer romances started here and for the rest, I am probably too old to even imagine any more. But it has been like this for many years now and Bočić will probably stay the place to have fun for the kids of Jelsa.

I was watching the boys many times, as they were jumping and it seemed to me, there is some goal they are trying to achieve, as they talk and explain in-between those jumps. So I asked the other day and I got my answer.

The whole point of the jumping is:

1. to make wet everyone who dares to put their towel close to the jumping spot,
2. to impress the girls that are sunbathing close to the jumping spot by jumping over them and splashing them,
3. to splash just for fun, when nobody even dares to come close to the jumping spot any more.

There are several techniques to achieve the best splash. Watch the 2 videos below to learn how to do it. Who knows, maybe you will find yourself in a situation, where impressing a girl on a beach by the splashiest jump will work..
