Reputable ceramists from Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Czech Republic and Slovenia visited Palmižana - participants of the 2nd international artistic colony "Varbanj 2015" organized by Varbanj association are creating their art, exchanging experiences and making contacts within the community in an abandoned floor of the school building in Vrbanj, which was transformed by Frane Abramović and Aja Stefan into spacious atelier.

Ceramic material is as old as the humanity and for Hvar it is of a great cultural significance. Croatian historian and archaeologist Grgo Novak (1888-1978) researched Grapćeva cave, Pokrivenik bay and Markova cave and found numerous pottery, which revealed new information about ancient times, Greek colonisation of the islands and the coast.

The colony in Vrbanj is a praiseworthy extension of the exploration of the cultural history of this region, networking our rich heritage with the latest cultural studies of the ceramic tendencies of nowadays.

Works created during the time of the Varbanj 2015 colony will be exhibited at Palmižana at the end of September. Many thanks to Tanja Ćurin for her commitment to promote this cultural initiative and ensure its future.
