IKEA announces first year results, as well as plans to start selling online in Croatia.
IKEA Croatia reported on Tuesday that in its first year of operations it has achieved a turnover of 535.9 million kuna, or 70.5 million euros, and has announced plans to launch online sales in 2016. Of the total turnover during the first fiscal year (from 1 August 2014 to 31 August 2015), the department store made 508.1 million kuna (66.9 million euros), while IKEA Food (Restaurant and Bistro, Cafe and Swedish Food Shop) made 27.8 million kuna (3.6 million euros), reports Poslovni.hr on November 3, 2015.
Director of IKEA Croatia Stefan Vanoverbeke announced plans to launch online sales for IKEA Zagreb department store by the end of fiscal year 2016, as well as the possibility of expanding operations in Croatia through innovative retail concepts. "In the first year of operations, the department store was visited by almost 2 million visitors. We have achieved outstanding sales results and have learnt a lot about Croatian customers. We will continue to develop and adapt our offer and services, with a special focus on developing online sales channels, in order to make IKEA products in Croatia available to even more people", said Vanoverbeke who in September became the new CEO of IKEA Croatia and the regional director of IKEA South East Europe.
According to the data, in addition to 67 percent of visitors from City of Zagreb and Zagreb County, the IKEA department store in Zagreb is mostly visited by customers from Split-Dalmatia, Osijek-Baranja, Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Varaždin Counties. About 8 percent of customers come from abroad, mostly from neighbouring countries. Customers from BiH represent 2.8 percent of all visitors, from Slovenia 2.4 percent and from Serbia 2.3 percent.
In line with the global sustainability strategy of IKEA, 1,300 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof of the department store in Zagreb, which enable it to produce about 20-25 percent of its energy consumption during the summer months. As much as 94 percent of the waste produced in the store is recycled (900 tonnes), and the sales of the recycled waste have brought a profit of 116,850 kuna.
