Happy International Beer Day, beer lovers!
It's no secret we love pints here at TCN and as the first Friday in August marks the International Beer Day, Poslovni dnevnik thought this was a good opportunity to see what the situation is like with Croatian brewers.
The Financial Agency (FINA) has released financial indicators of the key players on the domestic market, indicating that big companies are making profit, while smaller ones are normally not as successful. There are 51 entrepreneurs dealing with beer in our country, out of which 26 made profit in 2016, and 25 were operating at a loss. The beer industry recorded a total revenue of HRK 2.3 billion last year, and it employed around 1,500 people.
With up to 44 percent share in the Croatian market, Zagrebačka pivovara has no match in Croatia - it has 521 employees and a revenue of over HRK 1 billion, HRK 125 million out of which was from exports, The company's net profit amounted to HRK 186.2 million, while the employees' average monthly net salary was HRK 12,266, which is 27.3 percent higher than the industry's average and 138.6 percent higher than the average Croatian salary.
Heineken Croatia, i.e. Karlovačka pivovara came second, with a turnover of HRK 685 million, HRK 92.7 million out of which was from exports. Heineken is also the second-largest beer importer in Croatia, with HRK 128.3 million worth of imports.
The third largest brewery in 2016 was Carlsberg from Koprivnica, with a revenue of HRK 353.7 million, HRK 80.8 million was export-related. Carlsberg is also the largest importer, with HRK161.9 million worth of imports last year.
Osječka pivovara is next, which has two fractions, Prvo hrvatsko pivo 1664 and Pivovara Osijek, is next, with a combined profit of HRK 123.7 million.
Then we have Istarska pivovara from Buzet, with HRK 50 million, followed by a number of smaller breweries led by Pivovara Daruvar, with a profit of HRK 17.4 million. We should also mention Velebitsko pivo, i.e. its two companies: Pivovara Ličanka and Ličanka - proizvodnja pića, with a combined profit of HRK 26.5 million.
Finally, Pivovara Medvedgrad and their Cyrkon project company made a HRK 14.5 million profit.
