A new addition on the way for the capital.
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Marija Crnjak writes on the 14th of February, 2018, the Serbian company Delta Holding is negotiating for land acquisition in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, where it will build a new Hotel InterContinental.
The deal on sale should be signed by June this year, and then the procedure for building and contracting with a global hotel brand will begin, according to Živorad Vasić of the Delta Holding company, who confirmed this for Poslovni Dnevnik.
For now, Vasić cannot reveal the exact location site. "There are plans to build a 200-room hotel, similar to the InterContinental Hotel we recently opened in Ljubljana (Slovenia). Zagreb has been our target for some time, and we'll be happy if we can achieve it now,'' Vasić told Poslovni Dnevnik.
As it is already well known in the area, the President of Delta Holding, Miroslav Mišković, already emphasised his desire to invest in Zagreb quite some time ago, and stories about him wanting to buy the building in which Hotel Westin is located circulated around various media platforms in Croatia, but in the end, it turned out that Mišković would decide on greenfield, which is a bit of a rarity as far as Croatian tourism is generally concerned.
The still relatively high reliance upon seasonality and complicated procedures, coupled with unresolved spatial plans and unclear land registers, are some of the main reasons why investments related to the renovation of old hotels tend to go sour, and that is with with local investors who know and can deal with the system well.
