An upgrade for Crikvenica's port in on the cards.
As Morski writes on the 10th of May, 2018, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, the Director of the EU Funding Agency for EU Programs and Projects, Tomislav Petrić, and the Director of the County Port Authority of Crikvenica, Mario Kružić, will jointly sign a grant for the project of upgrading Crikvenica's existing port and infrastructure today, as has been reported from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
The signed contract will allow for the more than welcome allocation of almost 33 million kuna in non-refundable funds for the upgrading of the existing port of Crikvenica, as well as for the construction of a secondary breakwater and an extension of the Mala Palada protective pier.
The construction and upgrading of port infrastructure will give way to achieving an overall increase in the general quality of transport for passengers on the year-round Crikvenica - Šilo (island of Krk) line, regardless of the increasing numbers and the general rising pressure of tourism, it will also successfully provide the necessary preconditions for regular and safe sea transport, as well as overall better functioning for all.
The competent ministry has reiterated the fact that this is the second project to be funded from the ''competitiveness and cohesion'' operational program, with which the investments of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure continue through the proper use of European Union grants.
As an example of how things work, it is worth remembering that just one month ago, in April this year, the first contract worth a massive 32 million kuna was signed for the construction of the ferry port of Tkon on the island of Pašman in the Zadar region through these means.
