Will Lika Find A Place On The Tourism Map? Maybe!

Is it time for the stunning but overlooked region of Lika to get a slice of Croatia's tourism cake?

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 30th of July, 2018, Goran Štrok is ready to spend around 14 million euro of his own money, boosted with loans from the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR).

At the base of Velebit's steep slopes, located not too far from Lovinac and hidden away from prying eyes in amongst picturesque and entirely untouched nature, the well-known entrepreneur Boris Štrok is developing an ''organic luxury'' offer in a tourist resort in line with some of the best in the world, a bold move which is certainly a first for Lika as a whole.

As Večernji list reports, in a luxurious settlement which features the increasingly popular elements of glamping, located on 13.4 hectares of land which boasts a lake, a reception with a conference hall, wooden cottages, and many more facilities are all set to be constructed.

Two restaurants (in the forest itself as well as by the lake), a bar, wellness facilities, a swimming pool, jacuzzis, saunas, underfloor heating and much more will create an incredible Lika tourism story, all of which is "intended for people who want to be completely immersed in nature, and not have to give up the comfort of their homes and top gastronomy.''

While Lika is a beautiful area, it is usually completely overlooked by the vast majority of tourists who arrive in Croatia from all corners of the globe.

While not as heavily reported on as Slavonia's woes, Lika has its own battles with the economy to contend with, and while it will never be Dalmatia in the eyes of those craving sea and sun, boosting it's tourism capabilities will surely help to bring this beautiful inland region more towards the forefront of the international traveller's mind, as well as help to boost the local economy.
