Confirmation that hit HBO show will be leaving Croatia as a filming location, for the next series at least.
As TCN reported recently, rumours of a shift in filming location of hit HBO show Game of Thrones from Croatia to Spain have been confirmed by the show's producers, as report by dedicated Game of Thrones blog Watchers on the Wall:
"HBO confirmed today officially that, “based on story and location needs,” Game of Thrones will not be shooting in Croatia this year.
"HBO said, in an official statement:
"The question of whether the production will return to Croatia in the future will be decided once additional seasons are officially set by HBO. At that time, the production, along with HBO, will assess their location needs based on the scripts and storylines. HBO remains grateful to the HAVC and the Croatian crew for all of their continued support."
It remains to be seen whether or not Game of Thrones will return to Croatia for future series filming.
The show has been a huge tourism draw to Croatia, with many fans coming to take hastily assembled Game of Thrones tours, and a Game of Thrones theme park has even been built on Lokrum close to Dubrovnik.
Croatia and its locations have become integral parts of the show and it is hoped that the show will continue in the future with filming in Croatia.
