Students in Slavonski Brod Present Their Own Robots

Some of them can even play football.

Some of the best examples of Croatian innovation and crowd funding scene have been presented in Slavonski Brod at the third Innet Forum of Innovations and New Technologies, which was opened on Saturday. The event is organized by the Development Agency of Slavonski Brod, reports Večernji List on May 22, 2016.

Visitors can see smart benches or ride the second generation of Greyp Bikes (a combination of electric bicycle and motorcycle), as well as meet Hrvoje Hafner, one of the crowd funding pioneers who helped dozens of people in their funding campaigns and raised more than a million kuna, as well as Vladimir Bošnjak and his Streeter, an eco-friendly portable vehicle.

On the first day of the Forum, some of the innovations developed by high school students were presented, so students of the Technical School in Slavonski Brod demonstrated how their robots can play football. Their project is part of Robo Challenge, a 2.5 million kuna worth European programme, which gathers students who develop, design and program their own robots.

“At first, everything seemed very complex, but I soon realized that robotics and automation were not so difficult. These are the technology areas of the 21st century, and with this kind of activities we are actually investing in our future. I plan to study engineering at a university, so the knowledge I have gained will be very useful in my further studies and at my job”, said Josip Jozić, one of the students.

Ferdo Crnogorac from Slavonski Brod impressed the audience with his innovations in the field of renewable energy sources, including a wind turbine which automatically adjusts to rapid changes in wind direction. He also developed Fernando System, a device that produces electricity by using sea waves. He said he had long been thinking about the nature and needs of the people and he often has new ideas simply appearing in his head.

In addition to innovators, high school and university students, the forum this year brought together many entrepreneurs, scientists and investors. The greatest attention was attracted by a lecture by Ivica Puljak, who works at the CERN research centre in Switzerland and who spoke about the universe and the Higgs boson project which he worked on.
