May the 31st, 2022 - The Croatian tech company Gideon has presented its brand new innovation which will only contribute even further to placing Croatia on the tech map - Casey the robot.

As the trend of e-commerce continues to grow exponentially, with the global coronavirus pandemic which emerged back at the beginning of 2020, robotics is a field becoming not only more popular, but necessary in the face of increased demand.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes, the wildly successful and already very well known Croatian tech company Gideon, which has offices in Germany and across the pond in the USA, recently presented its new solution for automation and the optimisation of order preparation in distribution centres.

The company, which has alredy attracted the eyes and ears of the demanding technology works, deals with robotics and solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI).

Casey the robot is a solution developed for the preparation of orders for goods packed in boxes and works to improve the commissioning process through the optimisation and harmonisation of the tasks of both humans and robots with a payload of up to 1000 kg.

As they pointed out from the Croatian tech company Gideon, this brand new solution helps companies alleviate labour shortages and the challenges posed by strong e-commerce growth.

“The rise of e-commerce is a clear indication that the use of new automation technologies is the key to sustainable growth. Namely, e-commerce creates additional pressures on business because it is more labour-intensive and intensifies changes in customer expectations, for example, when it comes to delivery deadlines. Analysts' latest forecasts point to strong growth in e-commerce globally - by as much as 50 percent to 7.4 trillion US dollars by the year 2025,'' the technology company said.

Josip Cesic, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of the Croatian tech company Gideon, pointed out that Casey eliminates the cost of damage to both products and equipment and reduces staff costs by up to 40 percent.

July the 1st, 2021 - The Croatian Dok-Ing company has presented the world's very first robotic system for both military and civilian use, putting Croatia on the map when it comes to robotics and other innovative technologies once again.

Robotics might not be among the first things one would associate Croatia with, but the country has come on leaps and bounds in this regard over recent years, with robotics even entering the school system in some areas. This has allowed Croatian children to have the opportunity to learn about the skills likely needed for the future as technology changes rapidly and on a global scale.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes, the Croatian Dok-Ing company, which has been a global leader in the production of autonomous vehicles for demining, mining and firefighting for three decades now, recently presented its new project - Komodo.

As Vjekoslav Majetic, the founder of the Croatian Dok-Ing company pointed out, Komodo is the synthesis of all previous knowledge and technology of this company in one single product.

Komodo is a ''tank'' that can be used in all kinds of extreme conditions, whether they be war conditions or civilian ones, anywhere where it has become too dangerous for people to be present unless absolutely necessary. The Croatian Dok-ing's new robot is modular and can be adapted to various missions, from extinguishing fires in a chemical or nuclear environment through to sampling and analysis, to weapons and combat operations as a classic combat vehicle or tank.

Komodo, which has a hybrid diesel-electric drive, should be in series production by the year 2023. The price will stand at an eye-watering 5-10 million euros, depending on the equipment and orders, and Majetic says that they could deliver about 100 of these impressive Croatian machines a year.

March the 24th, 2021 - The Croatian Gideon Brothers and the Alantic Group (Atlantic Grupa) have come together to launch a large product testing and development project.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Croatian Gideon Brothers and the Atlantic Group are well known, highly successful companies and the pair coming together is likely to yield impressive results. The two companies have launched a project to develop an intelligent modular platform for process management in logistics, including a special solution for integrating autonomous mobile robots into a warehouse management system (WMS).

The central part of this research and development project are the advanced robots of the Croatian company Gideon Brothers, which will be directly connected to the WMS system of the Atlantic Group in its logistics and distribution centre in Velika Gorica near Zagreb. The move will serve as a testing ground for new product development and further testing.

As part of the large project, the Croatian Gideon Brothers will work on the development of the so-called "swarm" way of using robots, in which robots reach users in certain storage areas by following orders generated directly from the WMS system. Users will be able to read, on an integrated screen that the robots are equipped with, which products from a particular zone must be placed on the robot in order to complete a particular order.

One of the key objectives of the project is to increase the efficiency and flow of logistics operations to mitigate the risk of labour shortages, especially in periods of high demand.

"Humans are the main creators of value when it comes to logistics operations and that will certainly not change at any point in the foreseeable future. The close collaboration of humans and their robotic helpers is a way in which we can strengthen supply chains in the post-COVID-19 era and help the economy alleviate the pressure of labuor shortages and provide resources for growth. Our robots are here to help,'' said Matija Kopic, CEO and co-founder of Gideon Brothers.

"We're witnessing a robot revolution across various industries, accompanied by changes in attitudes. They're no longer a threat to the business or existence of (human) workers, but experience has shown that they can be a useful tool, working together with people to make the role of the human employees easier, more fulfilling and more productive. With this new solution and the complete integration of robots into our logistics operations, we want not only to alleviate any labour shortages, but also to meet increasingly complex market and consumer demands while maintaining business stability and profitability,'' added Darija Pizent, the Atlantic Group's supply chain management director.

Given the great potential of the new solution, the two successful Croatian companies applied for co-financing from the European Structural and Investment Fund - Increasing the development of new products and services arising from research and development activities - Phase II, together with their academic partner, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zagreb.

Their impressive technology is based on advanced, human-like 3D visual perception, which allows robots to recognise various objects and understand what surrounds them, making it easier to adapt to their environment and spot obstacles when working safely in close contact with human workers.

Robots and vehicles powered by Gideon Brothers' technology currently work in warehouses and plants of some of the largest Croatian, European and global companies in the manufacturing, logistics and retail sectors.

“Croatia’s food and defence industries are already present in this market, and now is the time to step up with other sectors as well, such as IT, industry, robots and infrastructure. Today's cooperation agreement must be implemented, and our chambers will play a key role in that,” said vice-president of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) for international affairs and EU Ivan Barbarić, opening an economic forum in Dubai where he announced the establishment of the HGK's office in the UAE, reports Poslovni.hr on November 12, 2018.

Arab partners have demonstrated great interest in Croatian robots which will help them learn robotics. “I am convinced that in the period ahead, STEMI robots will teach people from UAE how to program, create 3D-models and their own mobile apps. I had a series of very specific conversations, which is why I am confident about the realisation of these business opportunities,” said Slobodan Velikić from STEMI.

Colliers International Croatia has been working on attracting investors from Dubai and Abu Dhabi for the last year and a half. “Some of the largest investors and developers, such as Damac and Emaar, have visited Croatia and recognised its potential. As a result of our efforts, we are in active negotiations and we expect to close several projects in the coastal areas and Zagreb,” said Vedrana Likan.

Atiq Nassib, vice-president of the Dubai Trade and Industry Chamber, said that the forum is the beginning of more successful and deeper cooperation between Croatia and the UAE. "We have fantastic relations with the Croatian government and we are grateful for its great support in the Expo 2020 organization. I am also pleased to see that the number of tourists from Croatia has increased to 14,000. We are businesspeople by nature and we are interested in business. We want to develop the agriculture and food industry, transportation, education. You are an interesting partner and we need to work together,” said Nassib.

Croatian Ambassador based in Egypt Tomislav Bošnjak announced the opening of the Croatian consulate in Dubai and stressed that Croatia has the capacity to participate in the development of the UAE. He pointed out that the two peoples agree in many ways and share the same values.

In addition to taking part in the economic forum, the economic delegation will also visit the international exhibition and the annual conference on oil and gas and energy ADIPEC 2018, where Croatian companies are participating.

The UAE boasts the most diverse and most open economy of the Middle East, political stability, diversified economy, favourable business climate and financial strength.
