First Wurst Bar Opens in Zagreb

By 2 June 2016

A distinct interior design and tasty street food are more than enough to attract passers-by curiosity.

Located at the very heart of Zagreb, on Ban Jelačić Square, the Harmica passage is turning into a Mecca for the Austrian street food. There is no need any more to go to Vienna in search of such food specialties – the first and only Austrian Wurst Bar in Croatia is now open for guests, reports Poslovni.hr on June 2, 2016.

The bar has a very modernist-minimalist feel to it; the black colour dominates it, but with the additions of white. Interesting graphic solutions have been painted on the wall, making the bar especially attractive. Jars with various vegetables are used as decorations, but also as a detail that catches the attention of all the visitors. Although we usually link the term street food to „simple places“, the Wurst Bar is a proof that such spots can also have a certain charm and the spirit of the world’s metropolises. Kristijan Rendulić from Arhitektura is responsible for the looks of this contemporary ambiance that everyone will enjoy.

This ideal mix of Austrian food and interior design has found its perfect place in the Harmica passage, which had with years started to turn into a depressive and boring part of the main square. “The idea was to stop its further decline and show that Harmica can get its old flair back through the Wurst Bar project. The bar is located in the middle of the passage, so we have used some good lighting, clean details and simple forms in order to accentuate its position”, said representatives of the bar.

The premises are quite small, so the overall interaction involves the passage itself. The bar windows are open and they become places that can be used for eating. When people remain in the passage for a while, additional interactions occur. Besides this well-organized concept, the bar is also defined with some strong shelves that are holding an abundance of food (which can also be bought), it has a compact working area, and topical graphics.
