Jacine Jadresko: Croatian Canadian Lion Killer Outrages in UK Documentary

By 30 June 2016

She was called 'the most hated woman on the Internet' by Croatian media last year, and Jacine Jadresko's hunting antics reached a much wider audience on June 29, 2016, sparking outrage after the airing of a Channel 4 documentary "The Women Who Kill Lions."

Former Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury and broadcaster Amanda Lamb were among those leading the condemnation of the two women who were featured in a Channel 4 documentary, The Women Who Kill Lions, last night, with both of their reactions reported in the British media.

The documentary featured two female hunters who are no stranger to controversy. American Rebecca Francis was famously blasted by comedian Ricky Gervais after posing smiling next to a dead giraffe, while Croatian Canadian Jacine Jadresko outraged The Mirror with the admission that not only had she killed a lion, but had eaten part of it as well.

"Paying upwards of $16,000 for the experience arranged by a specialist company she went off to Africa: "That is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life," she was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"One big reason that I hunted lion originally and going to Africa is because my parents told me 'You know Jacine in ten years lion hunting is probably going to be banned' and they were like 'Go for it we will pay for it'."

Jadresko, who until last year was running a successful property and hospitality business in Split, but who has since left Croatia, was vilified in the Croatian media after pictures of her hunting exploits were posted on popular Croatian Facebook page "Di Su Pare?" and quickly went viral and became the top story of the day in the country, prompting a backlash in the media and online, as well as a leafet campaign locally in Split to dissuade tourists from supporting her activities by staying in her tourist rental properties. A TCN interview with Jadresko in May 2015 to hear her side of that story can be read here.

The early reaction in Britain seems to be mirroring last year's outrage in Croatia, an outrage which seemed to make Jadresko all the more determined to continue with her hunting activities.
