More than 30 different types of aircraft took part in the show.
The two-day air show "Croatian International Air Show Varaždin 2016” ended on Sunday. It is an international event that is included in the list of world and European air shows.
About 30 different types of aircraft flew over Varaždin, including AN-2, Galeb G-2, Pilatus B-4, Bell 212, Swift S-1, a 80-year-old PO2 and many others, and visitors could also see a JAS-39 Gripen which belongs to the Hungarian Air Force.
Visitors had the opportunity to watch the acrobatics of one of the best pilots in the world Peter Podlunšek, the European vice-champion in aerobatic flying with the aircraft Edge 540v2, while Luca Bertossi, the gold medalist from last year's World Air Games in Dubai, demonstrated his abilities in Swift S-1 aircraft.
Croatian Air Force was represented by helicopter Mi-171Sh, a fighter aircraft MiG-21 which was flown by pilots Ivan Selak and Zvonimir Milatović whose appearance was greeted very warmly by the audience, and the acrobatic group “Wings of Storm”, which presented an attractive and demanding programme with which they recently won the first prize at the world’s largest military air show Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at the Fairford Air Force Base in Great Britain.
The leader of the “Wings of Storm” group, Colonel Damir Barišić, said that they had participated in the Varaždin air show in previous years as well, and that this was their fifth appearance. “It is always a pleasure to come back to Varaždin, which is the only air show in our country that has continuity and professional organization and is reminiscent of international air shows”, said Barišić.
The air show also included police helicopters Bell 212 and Eurocopter EC-135. A parachute landing programme was presented as well. As part of an accompanying programme, visitors had the opportunity to try out a flight simulator of the Croatian Air Force, and to get to know more about the possibilities of entering the Armed Forces.
