This year’s 11th edition of the Varaždin Trash Film Festival will be held from September 7 - 10. During the festival, 51 amateur and low budget films from 11 countries throughout Europe and the Americas will be shown.
Coming off a very successful Špancirfest last month, Varaždin seems to epitomize all things “cool” as of late, and the Trash Film Festival is yet another notch in their belt.
With the theme “70’s Glamour” for number 11, Trash Film Festival will show films from Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, USA, Mexico and Argentina. The films will be screened at the Varaždin cinema gallery on Thursday and Friday from 17h-22h, and on Saturday from 15h-18h.
While festival organizers encourage patrons to dress up as hippies, punks, or members of a motorcycle gang, aside from the films, a rich entertainment program awaits.
On Thursday in the Atrium of the County Palace, the famous television quiz “Kvizna situation” will be held. Leader Mario Kovač and his team have prepared a special edition of this quiz with questions in the field of action, martial arts, sci-fi, horror films, and more.
As for the music program, the main festival stage will be set up in Kapucinski trg. Wednesday performers will be Varaždin rock band Faraday, Dance Group “Four”, Angie from Malnarovog Nightmare Stage and festival band Fakin Molding. On Thursday, the concert program moves to caffe Elephant. Performers will be Zagreb band "Kaj ve?" and Tribute to Nick Cave. On Friday back at Kapucinski trg performers will be Varaždin band Wifly and the Zagreb band Radio Clash - A Tribute to The Clash. On Saturday, the last day of the festival, Kapucinski trg will host the festival band The Fakin Mouldings & Bijelo Dugme Real Tribute Band from Belgrade.
While this year’s festival may be different than those in the past (no martial arts category?), the leader in film festivals for action, sci-fi and horror will be decided by a grand ol’ jury this year - theater, television and film actor Alen Liverić, theater, television and film actor Željko Vukmirica and scientist, ethnologist and cultural anthropologist Tomislav Pletenac.
Who will take home the infamous “Golden Chainsaw” at Trash?
