Rittmayer Craft Beer - 600 Years of German Tradition in Zagreb

Did Columbus discover America first or did the Rittmayer family from Hallerndorf in Bavaria produce its first beer – is the question!

In a unique and special way, through the combination of beer and movies, the Zagreb bar Quahwa saw the presentation of a superior German craft beer. Did Columbus discover America first or did the Rittmayer family from Hallerndorf in Bavaria produce its first beer – is the question!

We will not search for answers, but we do know the history of the Rittmayer brewery reaches far back to 1422 and that even today, 600 years later, they still foster the concept of a small family plant completely owned by the Rittmayer family. With the most sophisticated technology they produce traditional German beer which won many awards, but also innovative beer creations, craft beer which is also quite popular in Croatia.

“Considering this brewery does not produce huge quantities annually and that her owner, Georg Rittmayer, carefully selects the markets to sell it on, we are happy that this small, but very renowned beer brand is her in Croatia,” said at the presentation distributes Marin Brečić and Ivica Gelo.

The event took place in the new coffee bar Quahwa in Teslina Street, where the beer had an official premiere for media and the public. Along with finger food made by chef Zoran Gajić, visitor tasted 5 of the total of 7 craft beers made by the Rittmayer brewery: Summer 69, Bitter 42, Bitter 58, Smoky Geory and Wiezen Bock. They are audacious combinations of aromas and scent, harmoniously blended in complex bodies with remarkable personalities, so each beer has a movie doppelganger. Smoky Georg, a smoked craft beer aged in whisky barrels was presented in the context of the movie The Angels’ Share (Ken Loach, 2012) whose main character Robbie Emerson has a life change after visiting a whiskey distillery.

The Bitter 42, presented as the final answer to the question of what a real pale lager beer is, found its company in the scene from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, where number 42 is the final answer to the mother of all questions on the meaning and purpose of everything that exists.
