Three Hajduk flags will soon be marking the mountain massifs.
While we're battling a crazy heatwave with temperatures up to 38 degrees Celsius, a climbing expedition counting six members from Dalmatia decided to trade the summer sun for snow and is on its way to the highest summit in Switzerland.
The brave team is composed of Sinj residents Dalibor Cvitković Cvita, Stipe Munivrana and Ivan Zebić Klepton, and three people from Split – Ana Buklijaš, Petra Baleta and Boris Gavrić. Their goal? Piece of cake: reaching Dufourspitze, the highest peak of Monte Rosa mountain massif with an elevation of 4364 metres.
They already reached the Klein Matterhorn peak yesterday, July 9, and were greeted by a blizzard leaving them a fresh 30cm layer of snow at 0 degrees Celsius. Today they went on to conquer peak Breithorn (4164m) where the temperature dropped even further, from -3°C to -5°C. What we might see as a terrifying prospect from our 'summer at the Adriatic' perspective, they view as acclimatisation for the upcoming climb to the highest summit in the country.
The adventurers are members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, Croatian Hiking Society Mosor and Hiking Society Dinaridi.
Seeing that they are Dalmatian after all, the climbers made sure to raise Hajduk flags on both peaks they've conquered so far - just so everybody knows who's the boss. Good luck to the expedition, and we're looking forward to the third flag to crown the highest summit!
