"Are You Syrious" Opens Free Shop for Refugees

The shop is located in Središće

Are You Syrious Association, which provides daily support to refugees and asylum seekers in Croatia, has recently opened a store where you can donate things that could help refugees, VOX Feminae reported on July 11.

Free Shop is located in Središće and you can leave your clothes, shoes, toiletries or toys you no longer need, and which might be useful to refugees. This enables the people who have lost their homes to come to the store and pick what they need.

In addition to the shop and storage area, the store has several computers which migrants can use to contact their families or look for work. There is also a common room where they can spend time together and talk to each other, with paintings made by asylum seekers from Porin Hotel in Dugave on the walls. You can even buy the paintings, and the money will be given to refugees who need it the most.

In addition, there is a space for volunteers where they can plan their future actions or work with refugees who are looking for work in Croatia.

One of the volunteers, Sara Benceković, said in an interview for Jutarnji that their work has been met with positive response from the refugees and from citizens of Zagreb. Their most frequent visitors are refugees from Porin who stop by because they need clothes, toiletries, a piece of advice, or consolation.

"The situation is not critical anymore, but we want them to integrate into society as soon as possible, and have the same conditions as we have when choosing things they need," Ms Benceković said.

If you want to help, stop by Ulica Brune Bušića 42, Mon: 12 p.m. - 6 p.m., Wed: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., or Fri: 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

"We currently need toiletries, shower gels, soaps, and detergents, as well as clothes, shoes, and underwear. We normally distribute everything we get in two days maximum," Sandra concluded.
