ŠtrudlaFest #2 to Be Held in Jaškovo Near Ozalj

By 11 August 2017

The Guinness-record strudel making festival will take place on September 3

A traditional Croatian pastry, the strudel (štrudla in Croatian) entered the Guinness Book of Records on September 6, 2015, when the longest strudel in the world was made in Jaškovo near Ozalj. The 1,479.38 m long strudel was made thanks to the effort made by the efforts of this small community.

The Guinness Record story continued at last year's First Strudel Festival - ŠtrudelFest, an event that brought traditional gastronomy and customs back to life and which saw more than 3,500 visitors. A field trip to the picturesque Ozalj and Jaškovo was completed by a unique gourmet meeting which, as a day of good atmosphere and delicious flavours, will take place again this year.

The second ŠtrudlaFest will be held on Sunday, September 3, with an even more interesting and richer programme. The amateur and professional competition in strudel making will be the highlight of the day, but free gastro workshops for children and adults will undoubtedly be equally interesting. Visitors will be able to find out the secrets of making this delicious pastry and learn something new from chef Branko Ognjenović, while Mario Valentić will be in charge of the healthy strudel workshop.

There will also be over 50 different fillings for everyone's favourite pastry, and 40 local farms will present their home-grown products.

Special attractions include hay sculptors made by sculptor Nikola Faller, several metres tall, the riding a carriage, riding ponies, and performances of numerous folklore ensembles. Some other new things that visitors will be able to try out this year include a natural cosmetics workshop and learning how to work in the field.

Programmes will take place from 10 am to 9 pm at two locations in the village of Jaškovo: the central stage and Jaškovo manor house (Ozalj rehabilitation centre). All information, as well as the application form for the professional and amateur competition in strudel preparation, can be found at www.strudlafest.com.

An additional motive for visiting this beautiful part of Karlovac County on this weekend is the Run of Heart race, which takes place the day before, on Saturday, September 2, starting at 9 am.

Part of JaškoFest, it is an inclusive international sporting event that includes elementary games for children and several races of different lengths through the glorious landscape of Jaškovo. Everyone is invited to participate - children and adults, as well as people with disabilities. All you need is your will and good mood. Henry Wanyoike, one of the fastest runners in the world, who set some of the world's best records as a blind person, will also participate, as well as the best Croatian skier with disabilities, Dino Sokolović.
