The fourth edition of Dubrovnik's Good Food Festival is just a couple of days away!
As DuList writes on the 17th of October, 2017, an interesting and rich program on Thursday, October the 19th awaits us as the fourth edition of Dubrovnik's Good Food Festival is set to begin!
The festival is a popular manifestation that has won the hearts of both foreign and domestic visitors with its previous programs and highlights. The festival is a blend of both traditional and modern cuisine, and this year's program begins with Deša Dubrovnik's workshop for preparing locally famous Ston cakes at Lazareti.
Just as in previous years, Deša will organise a series workshops of traditional desserts local to the Dubrovnik and the wider southern Dalmatian area. On the first day of this year's festival program, starting at 10:00 at Lazareti, Ston Cake will be being prepared, one of the original, renaissance desserts typical to southern Croatia. Ston cake was a typical ''household name'' around both the Christmas and Easter periods, as well as on other personal special occasions. Such an occasion is, naturally, the beginning of this year's Good Food Festival!
Aside from Ston cake, the first day of the program brings with it two more interesting workshops: ''Pasta and Food Conversation'' is the name of one of them, held by Marina Žibert Ercegović, which will begin at 11:00 on Pile.
This workshop is intended for students of the Dubrovnik Tourist and Catering School, which educates the young forces of Dubrovnik's main and by far most profitable industry - tourism. Who can better transfer valuable knowledge than the excellent chef Marina Žibert Ercegović who has been part of this festival since the very beginning?
For the first time this year, the Good Food Festival will be attended by a certified vegan cook and health food expert Tereza Poljanić, who will hold a vegetarian brunch workshop or a dinner called ''Healthy Theresa'' starting at 17:00 at the same location on Pile. Tereza is currently living in Auckland, New Zealand. She is the author of the blog "Teresamisu", and is known for "Hello, Tereza!", Which is broadcast on Pop TV. The young chef is currently exploring Dalmatian and local Dubrovnik cuisine.
The story of Lekri, the only wine that is actually produced here in Dubrovnik, will add more local ''spice'' to the evening of the first festival day at 18:00 at Škar Vinar. With the story of Dubrovnik's long, ruch history and shipbuilding, family tradition, local wine varieties and wine making, this is an opportunity to taste Lekri, white, black and rose wines, with prosciutto, cheese and olives and then sweeten things up with selected liqueurs, dry figs and more.
The last event on the Good Food Festival's very first day will be the rich gastronomic presentation of Vukovar-Srijem County, which will be held at 19:30 at Mimoza Restaurant. With the musical performance of the Tamburitza band, the entire focus will be on beautiful Slavonia and Srijem and their incredible rich and varied gastronomical scene. Vukovar-Srijem, and indeed Slavonia as a whole, is a region rightly considered to be a place in which people truly eat well, especially when it comes to meat! The warm Slavonian hospitality for which this pretty Eastern Croatian region is best known will also be highlighted in the program.
This rich four-day program will showcase a varied offer of delicious food and fine wines through a variety of events every single day. The festival is the perfect event for all lovers of not only good food and wine, but those passionate about gastronomic and enological issues - this festival gives all of the above an educative and deeply humanitarian character as well. Why not experience one of Dubrovnik's favourite events for yourself?
