ZAGREB, March 3, 2018 - The Central State Office for Croats Abroad on Friday signed contracts on scholarship for descendants of Croatian emigrants abroad, enabling them to learn the Croatian language in Croatia.
Granting scholarship is one of the projects of the Zagreb-based Office aimed at strengthening "the educational and scientific capabilities of the Croatian community abroad," as well as strengthening "the roles of educated individuals in their local communities".
The office has approved a record high 232 scholarships for 170 users to learn Croatian during the 2017-2018 school year. Ten scholarships have been awarded for internet learning of the Croatian language.
The recipients of these scholarships will learn Croatian in Zagreb, 99 of them, in Split (56) and in Rijeka (7).
The scholarship recipients are descendants of Croatian expatriates who had emigrated to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Hungary, Austria and Australia, according to a press release from the office.
