11th Weekend Media Festival: Rovinj Meets Paris and Berlin

By 12 April 2018

April 12, 2018 - This year's edition of the biggest communications festival in the region celebrates cultural diversity and creative thinking

Weekend Media Festival, the biggest communications festival in the region, has started to prepare for its 11th edition, taking place from September 20 to 23 this year, Glas Istre reports.

The festival is set to return to its renowned location, the old tobacco factory in Rovinj. This time around, the popular manifestation partnered up with France and Germany, two leading European economic forces that double as centres of muliticulturalism, art, intellect and innovation.

"Paris and Berlin both manage to take advantage of their diversity which is a key factor of their dynamism and constant renewal. It is exactly this coexistence of seemingly opposite ideas that has become the inspiration for the eleventh edition of the Festival", said the festival director Tomo Ricov.

Part of the programme of the upcoming festival will be dedicated to the guests coming from Germany and France, who will represent "a Europe that is united and intertwined". Through various lectures and panel discussions, the European visitors will introduce the audience to the best marketing, media and business practices currently employed by their countries.

Another part of the programme will take visitors on a tour of contemporary Berlin and Paris. Exhibitions and music will provide a glimpse into the life of modern bon vivants; we'll look for Parisian charm in the latest inventions and find out how punks and businessmen coexist in Berlin. A contrast of rusty bikes and luxurious German cars, acclaimed painters and graffiti artists - all of them feeling welcome in these major urban hubs.

"Berlin and Paris have always been known as cities of freedom for the people whose personalities and mindsets don't match certain social standards. It's such people that we aim to assemble at Weekend, the visionaries of our industry. That's why we're glad to have partnered up with countries and cities that encourage diversity and creative thinking. We will definitely have a lot to learn from each other", said Nikola Vrdoljak, the programme director of the festival.

While September might seem quite far away at the moment, preparations for the 11th Weekend are well underway. Early bird registration is available at a price of 1.200 kuna. All marketing professionals can apply their projects for the 7th BalCannes awards, while the best digital projects in the region will be recognised by SoMo Borac awards.
